Electro Harmonix Nano Big Muff Reviews
Delicious!
I bought this to save a little space on my pedalboard, but I actually prefer the sound to my Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker. The nano is a little brighter, which actually works wonders for the muff sound!
don't buy it
This pedal does not sound anything like the big muff. It is noisy, and the sustain is dirty. I have a Palmer professional power supply, and if I engage this pedal it generates a crapload of noise, and the sound is horrible, no matter how I link it in the pedal chain. If you did consider this pedal for a bit of extra grid and sustain (just as the advertisement states on the EHX website "if you like Pink FLoyd, this is the setting for you" like I did, forget about it. It sounds awful, and nothing even close to Pink Floyd. I have the same pickups as Gilmore, and a real good amp. You get much closer to his sound (if you would want that at all, which I don't), you have much more chance with the EHX nano metal pedal, on a clean tube amp channel and bit of chorus (Neo clone) and delay(whichever if clean).
And it is also a tone suck pedal.
I do not recommend it at all.
Original big muff sound but smaller
This nano big muff has the same circuit with the original big muff with the difference that the size is much more practical.
You can get all kinds of sounds with the three pots available.
I use it every gig when playing hendrix and pearl jam and other stoner stuff and it delivers every time!! And it 's cheap as well! Recommended :)
Maybe not for me
It's a really solid little pedal but the sound is just not to my taste. I thought the switch was very hard to click on and off. It's compact which is great, but I don't think I'll be hanging on to it.
As I expected - Amazing!
I had heard a lot about this pedal - that it sounds great, that many legendary guitarists had use it, but it was time to test it by myself. And I did. And I don't regret it. It sounds amazing. Sound obtained from this pedal is starting from light-bluesy distorted sound to really heavy/low/creamy sound, and it fits pretty much any style. It's 'a-must-have' for any guitarist!
Oriented on the bass spectrum
It's my first muff and I use it to completely distort my sound for heavy doom parts. It works very well even if it is very bass oriented and to get a usable sound out of the mix you have to play with the tone knob.
I used it also at home to get some hendrix solo stuff, and that's where it shines. Classic violin like distortion that you can hear on 70' records.
It looks great also!
Big Muff in the raw
I must admit, it was the name itself that caught my attention! What followed some investigation, reading reviews and watching videos, I decided this was a pedal I would definitely enjoy.
I'm quite a fan of Jack White. I love the dirty buzzing tones he tends to get from his equipment. I like the rawness and lack of refinement that he pumps out while attacking the guitar. This pedal is a worthy facilitator if you like this style.
It gives you a great big buzz, heavy and thick. Then as a counter to this it can screech out high notes. It's raw.
For me, music can be cathartic, expressive. If you like to go vent at times on the guitar, getting the emotion out, raw and real, the Muff is there to work it with you.
I highly recommend it.
(I'm aware it has other uses, for me though it's the raw potential that appeals.
Big fuzz, tiny foot print
Its exactly what you would expect, it sounds exactly the same as a standard big muff but tiny!
it packs the same huge sound with incredible sustain like the original and is perfect for those black keys, jack white or david gilmour moments!
or if you just need utter filfth with endless sustain.
It has a nice metal enclosure that survived being dragged about on my board for months without a scratch to show for it!
nice big knobs that are easy to operate with your feet and true bypass switching so there is no leakage into your clean signal.
Overall a great pedal that i would strongly recommend to anybody looking for that tone especially in such a small package.
Compact size, big sound
I really like a size of this product. It is 10 times smaller then big muff and sounds the same. Pedal boards friendly product for sure. Recommended if you need space for other pedals...
