Huge sound

Huge warm and thick sounding fuzz. You can achieve a range of great fuzz sounds from this pedal, so you can dial in the exact tone you are looking for. Perfect for a 90s grunge sound.

Sounds great alone, and also in a chain. For example, you can get some great shoegaze sounds by running it into a reverse reverb.

So different yet so similar... Super mix cutter/

Marshall DSL1, 2x12 v30, emg81 (volume pot only) = bright and cutting tone.

Ultra gain channel with a little gain (9 o'clock)

All muffs @ 12 o'clock, except for big box muff, slightly more as it is quieter

1. Russian = the fattest mofo around but still clear enough to hear chords and different strings. It feels like the 3rd channel I wish I had in my amp. Absolutely massive sound but it doesn't loose too much definition/ A little muddier Dual Rectifier kind of thing

2. Ram's head = very similar to Russian but it has less definition and goes more towards OG triangle in terms of mud. Still very powerful and bassy

3. op amp = thin/cutting like a razor, weird sounding offspring. Loved it because it had its own character and was amazing for cutting. It chocks on chords and notes definition

4. triangle = OG, super loud. I liked it the best on clean channel as it was super powerful sounding, fizzy fuzzy but still very punchy

5. big box big muff USA (writing only) = the reason I have ordered other muffs... It was just chocking all over the place on ultra gain channel (dirty). There was basically no definition of notes nor chords but... I loved it the most of single strings/notes solo stuff. Super creamy, very pleasant and compressed. I liked it so much that I had big trouble to let it go... For solos it was amazing.

I was seriously debating leaving all 5 muffs with me... They are all different, altought 4 & 5 very very similar with triangle having slightly more note definitions and more punch. Though 4 with super creamy solo/single string was super hard to forget about.

I don't think there's a wrong choice here. They behave/sound so different with different amps, guitars, etc. that it's just impossible to decide which to get...

If you have a dark very fat sounding amp like Dual Rectifier/similar I would definitely pick op amp as it cuts the best.

Mind you, this is all on ULTRA GAIN channel on my amp which has tons of gain on tap already.

On clean channel they all sound very similar. Op amp has its own character which is super cool and I already miss it (both on dirt and clean channel)...

Triangle was the punchiest and most powerful on clean channel. Big box muff was almost exactly the same. Ram's head and Russian too but they were much better on dirt channel for my FAT MASSIVE tone needs.

On clean channel I would go TRIANGLE. Op amp is cool on either, it has its own character but it chokes on already dirty channel not as much as big box muff and triangle but still, similar to ram's head but ram's head sounds more pleasant overall

Ram's head is like the best of both worlds TRIANGLE <> Russian.

It sits in the middle. Big bassy but chockes a little, but still define. I had a hard time deciding between Russian and Ram's head as they were super similar. Ram's head was a little less defined so I went with Russian as I am using it as a fake 3rd MASSIVE channel on my DSL1.

You can't go wrong with either~!! I was for days thinking about leaving all of them for different scenarios... They are all super amazing pedal with their own character. There's no better/worse. All lovely./

Wooooowwwwww……..

A whole lot of fuzz, not only if you are looking for vintage sweet tones…

I use the pedal in the frist quart of the Feedback, to be subtle so plenty of fuzzing to the moon and back left! Not for the Faint hearted!

cool specific sound

Its that Smashing Pumpkins sound from the Butch Vigg Record. Its a unic sound. Very wide sound perhaps not as "fat" and thick as some other fuzzes.. For example the Jimi Hendrix thick fuzz lead tone.. This is more transparent sort of but still very wide and cool for layering guitars in mixes etc..

Great Smashing Pumpkins tone

Think Siamese Dream era! Perfect for that type of sound.

Distortion Fuzz

By far the most aggressive Muff style pedal ever tried, it has a bit more girth than a big muff and sounds definitely more distorted rather than a classic heavy fuzz.

Usually the Muff variations are quite similar type of fuzz with different tonality but this one is completely different.

Is suitable for Stoner rock style as well, there's no real need to hit it with a RAT or TS, it's already quite aggressive on it's own.

Best Big Muff Fuzz for the price

Of all the Big Muff guitar pedals, definitely the best in terms of price / quality. Sustain it's amazing! Cool fat and raw 90's sound ... For grunge, i think it's the best.

Classic Fuzz Sound

Perfect for 90's alt rock fuzz riffs and powerful lead tones.

Great price for a legendary sound.

With some rigs it can get too weak and fizzy however.

Love it! Raw sound with the humbuckers. The tone switch is an act of genius.

Excellent fuzz pedal for reasonable price

Saw this pedal after interview with Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, and wanted to try it out. You can easily dial in the pumpkins sound.

Use: For grunge sounds and white stripes type of sound, it is pefect.

Pros: Excellent soundimage, really captures the sound of the original

Cons: Needs a bit of volume to start shining. Specially on tube amps where you need the tubes to start cooking.

Build quality seems very good so far. No complaints with Electro Harmonix in general. never had a problem with their pedals.

The Best of the Best

The Op-Amp Big Muff Pi. What more needs to be said?

This handy little guy provides that much sought after fizzy fuzzy goodness you've heard on countless recordings. It's great for '60s psychedelic stuff, '90s grunge, and so much more.

I've been using it's unique tones to sew some guitar into synth-pop compositions.

5 stars. A smashing success!

Exactly what I expected

After hearing reviews I was expecting the sound of the Siamese Dream album with that pedal and it delivers perfectly. It is reasonably priced and of solid quality.

EHX DID IT AGAIN

I always dreamed to have that Smashing Pumpkins sound so I ordered this pedal pretty much immediately after EHX announced it (with Billy Corgan himself!).. I was very excited to try it and I was not disappointed!

Although it's a very dirty fuzz (with lots of high-end crunch) it is SUPER VERSATILE!

Try leaving the Tone knob all down, or playing with the OP-AMP button and you'll get very different kinds of sounds depending on how high your sustain is.

I recommend turning everything to the max with the op-amp turned on and let it rip.. But it's your choice really, and that's a cool fact about this pedal.

I love it and very happy with it!

ONLY PROS.
