Great!

I bought this so I could use a whammy type of effect, although it does more than that.

So first of all, the sound. It's good, I've never tried the Whammy 1, so I don't know if it's better or worse but, having no reference, all I can say is that all octaves sound in tune, it tracks easily and the bending is continuous. No control for mixing in dual mode (as in the POG), only a blend knob that mixes dry and wet.

Harmonies sound good as well. No minor 3rd however, which might be a drawback for some.

the footprint is small, which is nice for crowded boards, and if you use an exp pedal you can put them apart in your board, which is also good.

Also, if you don't want/have an exp pedal, you can use momentary mode (it as a latch mode on/off switch) and you can calibrate the bending speed (by using an exp pedal, just for a one time calibration)

Very easy to use.

But pricey.

Pros: sound, small footprint, use of expression pedal, or momentary mode (which can be calibrated). Up/down/dual modes allows to choose the octave direction. Goes up to three octaves.

Cons: pricey (and extra if you want an expression pedal), so it becomes more expensive than a whammy. Doesn't allow to control the mix of the octaves independently.

4 stars because of the price, and the lack of octave mix.

Bought this pedal for home use. However it is a rugged pedal that would very well do for gigging purposes. Very tiny pedal easy to fit into any pedalboard.

It has a great range of pitches that you can choose to get different sounds and it is very simple to use. One know to toggle between pitches up three octaves and a knob to regulate the blend. There is also a latch butto that allows to either work as a normal pedal, pressing and staying on until pressing again, or to turn it on only when pressing which allows you to do some glissando stuff that can ben cool.

Also it has a toggle where you can choose to have the pitch up or down or both. Just have to choose if you want the pedal to replicate at an higher picth or lower or both.

Overal the quality of sound is great up to one octave up/down. Sounds great for soloing or to add depth to riffs. The various pitch options allow to recreate some staple sounds from Rage Against the Machine to White Stripes.

On the 2nd and 3rd octave up/down it starts to sound a little fizzy and digital, although, it could change with a different distortion/fuzz pedal on the chain (I just use overdrive).

Overal this pedal really shines with a fat overdrived sound adding great depth and power to any riff or solo you may play. Chords and 2 and 3 octaves up/down are a vit too much for it.

I love this pedal

I bought this pedal in order to be able to explore experimental/ambient sounds in my guitar. From the first time I plugged it in I just loved it and since then I keep finding more way to use it, from something as simple as using it as an octave pedal with my muff, adding harmonies to volume swells to creating sci-fi/space sounds using it with an expression pedal.

The build quality is the standard EHX quality, it tracks really well and for what I wanted it I can find no flaw. Highly recommended for any experimental guitar player out there

great pedal i own digitech whammy dt as well and this pedal could replace digitech whammy if not for the dt effect but for that you would need an expression pedal

when buying an expression pedal try not to buy rolland = D

Good!

Overall, this pedal is great! The only thing I don't like that much, is the little delay it has.. There's a really small gap between the note you play and the effect, but no big deal, I use it when I want to give more punch to the solos (a little mix with an octave). You can do lots of things with this unit. There's an option to use both 2 octaves at the same time (lower and higher) and it's sounds killing! You can harmonize with 4ths, 5ths.. It's really good.

Love it!

Oh, I love this pedal!

It gives you so many features for such great price.

I bought this pedal to imitate baritone guitars while playing in standard tuning. I play with a cover band and I'm tired of taking the second guitar with me, so I thought this pedal could be a dealbreaker.

I have to say this pedal has a slight delay in tracking, which is still better than other pitch pedals. You can still play in baritone tuning, if you play non very technical music. The sound is very authentic tho, when pitch down or up.

The only thing I wish this pedal had is minor third interval.

I think this pedal is a great replacement for whammy, who wants a pedal with a smaller size.

Pitchshifting beast

I used many different guitar effects and I was always obsesed with pitchshifters or octave pedals. I used to have the digitech Whammy. The whammy is legendary and provides many different presets to play. My only wish was to add another mixed harmony wich the Whammy cant`t do it (for example: octave up and down).

The pitchfork is amazing. You get an awesome pedal which has many different ways of use. The great thing is you can dial in many different tones which can be use in up, down or dual mode. You can even mix your dry and wet which is great if you need just a bit highlight in the back or 100% wet octaves.

Great things is also latch or momentary switch.

I realy recomend the pedal to anyone.

Bass player review

I tested the Pitch Fork with a Music Man Stingray Classic (standard tuning).

The Pitch Fork is built using the standard Electro Harmonix die-cast aluminium enclosures we all know. It is reasonably solid and I can't see any problem regarding its solidity for studio or live usage.

The controls are intuitive and well organised. The Blend knob sets the balance dry/wet allowing a good level of flexibility. The Shift knob sets the pitch shift interval. The manual, also available from the EHX web site explains in detail the wide amount of possible settings. The only things I would have liked to see is the presence of two separate knobs for dry and wet but it not a major point. I'm sure other users prefer a blend knob.

The tracking is perfect: it tracks without a glitch in total polyphony. On some settings, I noticed a little bit of latency but nothing terrible.

The range of available pitch shifts is huge. The Pitch Fork can go up (or down) 3 octaves. With guitar is a setting probably useful for communicating with dolphins but nevertheless it shows how flexible the Pitch Fork can be.

Although the pedal itself is a monster of flexibility, in my personal opinion, the tone itself is depressingly bad - at least with bass guitar.

The sonic artifacts are very noticeable. It is like there were a second note playing alongside the major one. A sort of small delay not too dissimilar from a reverb effect set to "room" and with an almost zero decay.

I didn't test the Pitch Fork with electric guitar. I hope that at higher frequencies, the sonic artifact disappears and the Pitch Fork performs better.

If you are a bass player that wants to experiment with pitch shift effects in the bedroom it is a great pedal. It has a lot of settings and it tracks great. However, if you plan to use it live or in a recording environment, I would be very surprised if it covered your needs with professional results.

Great little pedal!

As I think everyone does (or should!) I have been looking around for alternatives as I wanted a decent octave pedal.

I originally looked at the POGs, the Whammys and the cheaper offerings like the Moer.

I wanted a pedal that could do BOTH up and down shifts simultaneously (Whammy can't) and accurate polyphonic tracking. I also would really have liked the option to shift with an expression pedal so I was left with little choice! Then I saw the Pitch Fork.

The pedal is really well made, I'm very confident in its longevity. The pedal responds and shifts very well and it does everything I hoped it would. It does a very good job of recreating the guitar sounds at different pitches and you get to hear YOUR guitar at those pitches.

The unit comes with a PSU - however mine did not have a UK adapter. I would recommend that you use a separate power supply for this pedal as it can introduce noise in high gain pedals if you daisy chain the power.

With that aside - I'm extremely happy with this pedal and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it!
