Fantastic

Real good overdrive.

I've been using it with a Marshall valve head for about two years, and with the pedal alone you can get HUGE sounds, perfect for juicy riffs and powerchords.

The only blemish is the lead sound, which may require another pedal like a treble booster to cut through the rest of the band.

Taking account of the price, I'd say it's a wonderful product.

Affordable K sound

This is so good you don't even know its on. I use and IKON as my always on drive sound and the Soul Food is used for what I call a "drive boost". Basically I kick it in for solo's or if I want a little extra uumph without using the boot setting on my amp and it fits the bill perfectly. As a stand alone drive it also goes head to head with anything out there.

Nice overdrive pedal

Totally love it, it gives a warm gentle, natural sounding overdriven sound.

Sometimes I use it to simply colour or distort my sound, and sometimes even to match single coil (Fender American Strat) with humbucker (Epiphone Model Special, Eastwood Airline TwinTone), which have different level and tone.

Definitely very happy with it. It's simple, small, sturdy and good quality.

What an overdrive

What an overdrive pedal. I like the sound you can get out of this little pedal.

Many features and really easy to use. This is a very versatile pedal.

From little boost to this nice overdrive sound we all like.

One of my favourite pedals I used so far.

Next to this, it is quite cheap as a pedal but you will have one of the best quality-price ratio you will find on the market.

This is a solid pedal and a nice addition to any pedalboard.

Sounded Amazing for 5 minutes

Loved it........until is failed after 5 minutes use.

After toggeling on / off a few times, the sound went "fuzzy and muddy" and none of the knobs did anything......

Returned item.

Great expressive overdrive for blues

I use it with a stratocaster, I'm mostly playing blues and so far I really like it.

It's a versatile pedal, depending on the overdrive level, from adding a little color to the sound when playing rythm guitar to adding a nice fat crunch when playing lead. Overall I've found the sound warmer and more pleasant compared to other pedals I've used before.

If I had to add one cons it would probably be the switch which can feel a bit "stiff" .

It's great value for the price, I guess it will stay on my pedal board for a while !

Really nice OD

I haven't tried a lot of overdrive pedals tbh but from the ones i have tried this is definitely one of the best.

I mainly use it on top of an already crunchy amp to go to really high gain stuff or solos .

Works great .

Sometimes when turned on it produces a "snap" that can be heard through the amp.

nice boost / drive pedal

used this for a couple of years , liked it a lot at first , but started to go off it once compared to other pedals , nothing wrong with it ,, a little nasal sounding sometimes , but if you want it as a clean boost its great . or too boost an overdirve pedal its decent ... and at this price its a great starting point

great pedal

A great little pedal. Amazing for the price. Used as a clear drive or a boost to my other drive pedals it sounds great

Excellent drive pedal

A very expressive klone pedal, a lot warmer than some others I have tried.

I think my favourite setting is with the drive pedal at 9 oclock (i.e. around 30%), with the treble reduced to 10 oclock (20% left of centre)

I have never had any reliability issues with it

Cool drive

Really cool drive to have this punch for solos or some passages, when u are not really looking for something lighter than a distortion!

Not as good as expected

I was rather disappointed with this pedal. Based of the reviews I expected at least a passable version of the mythical (and extremely pricey) Klon Centaur. When I received it, the pedal felt like a cheap construction and not very sturdy. I was not expecting much for £40, but for something that has the Electro Harmonix brand, the build quality was not there. More importantly, I thought the sound was quite thin and not particularly reminiscent of other more expensive clones I had tried in the past, so it was returned. I had resigned myself to spending some serious money to buy a more upmarket Klon clone, but more recently I got a Mosky Golden Horse for less than half the price of the Soul Food. It has a much smaller footprint so it takes up very little space on the pedalboard and overall would give the Soul Food a run for its money as it does a much better job at the low gain overdrive/boost that the original clone is supposed to excel at.

Cheap pedal for a silky sound

Transparent etc. etc. etc.

Add it to your chain no matter what kind of sound you're into.

It's solid.

A great pedal in its own right

OK, it's supposed to be an inexpensive clone(-ish) of that other gold unobtainium pedal - but even if it doesn't sound exactly like it, it's still great, and found a permanent place on my board.

Simple, but effective controls - Drive, Volume, Treble. Turn the drive below 9 o'clock, Treble at 12 o'clock, and it's a transparent drive / booster. Start turning the drive up and it starts pushing the mids, while keeping clarity. Crank the drive, and it'll get angry - in a really great way. Season the treble to taste, use to Volume to control how much you want to push your amp, and off you go to overdrive wonderland - without breaking the bank.

The clone

Yes. This is a klon clone. We all know it. I don't hear the difference myself. You want those transparent overdrive tones that everybody is raving about? There you go.

First overdrive pedal

It's my first overdrive pedal, and I really enjoy it, I'm able to get all the sounds from led zeppelin to black sabbath.

Great value, and I really like the clean boost it also provides

Not a Klon, but a very good pedal

I use it through a fender blues junior with my fender strat. It is a great pedal for blues mainly. It has pretty good amount of distortion but I think it shines in a blues context.

Many people compare it with the klon pedal but it is quite different if you A/B them. They both cut the bass of your sound ( the soulfood even more than a klon) but the klon has an upper mids kick while the soulfood is a more angry version of a tubescreamer. In my opinion, it much more sounds like a different version of a tubescreamer.

Better than I thought

I mainly play clean stuff but I needed some od/distortion pedal for solos, riffs and some rythm parts. I don't know much about overdrive pedals and this was my first real od pedal. I read good reviews, so I decided to try this out. And here's my experience.

I was happily surprised. It's not like was blown away at first. It's just an od pedal, but after some time I realized that now at my gigs it's always on even though I was "clean guy" before this. Really nice for mild od. I don't really play with huge overdrive so I don't have any opinion about that sound, but for me it's very good. My bandmate said it sounds quite "tube-like".

I really liked that it came with power adapter. Also it's quite small, but seems very durable.

Not important but I also think it's very good looking pedal. And looks like something that is meant for making art.

Overall, I very satisfied with this purchase.

Great overdrive

Fantastic little pedal for the price. Great sound. Very useable and a nice cheap addition to any board which does not have already have a "transparent" overdrive. Couldn't be simpler to use and is built very solidly. Ive lost interest in heavier distortion so this is now the only overdrive on my board. Sounds great with all my guitars (es355, jaguar, strat, Les Paul) so it's staying put!
