Electro Harmonix Soul Food Reviews
Unbelievable price for a great pedal
A very good quality price for a pedal that is present in many important pedalboards. Super versatile, does its job. It can be a great booster but also an overdrive with particular characteristics and voices.
Nice tool, not very solid
It has a beautiful tone but it’s quite limited with the functionality. Broke down after few months of using at home. I have doubts if I’d recommend it to anyone
Sounds great but..
Great sounding overdrive, seems very well built.
My main issues with it is that the foot switch is very stiff and makes a loud click (audible in the output) when switched on. I have also had issues with a high pitched whine/noise when the drive set to about 25%. It goes away when selected abit above or below. I guess that could be super annoying if you get that whine/noise at the position you like.
Great Klon Clone :)
EHX - affordable and durable OD pedal, based on the most expensive one on the market - sounds great!
Lovely sound!
I use it as a "creamy boost", and it sounds lovely :) #IAsked
Maybe not a Klon but at least it has some Horsepower!
It delivers mostly on its sound especially when considering the price. For those who for. Always have the luxury of having that special amp they desire, this puppy handles every Amp I’ve tried it with quite well. For the price you really can’t go wrong. Aesthetic-wise it might not be the prettiest however, that shouldn’t really matter.
Great
I bought the Soul Food to my Marshall DSL5, which has a gain channel that i dont like that much. The Soul Food alters this channel to a crispy sound, that works for me just fine. It provides a wide variety of sounds, from light push, to insane gain with wild tops. I can´t compare to other klon clones, only with my Dark Matter and MojoMojo Paul Gilbert OD, and this one wins by a mile.
On the clean channel it sounds somewhat screamy, at least on my amp.
It is very sturdy build, like a tank. You get a power source, which is nice for the price of this pedal.
Perfect for the price point
I think it's hard to find a klon this good. I took a star for the sound only because it doesn't break up nicely once you put the gain past 2 o clock.
If you want a klon like pedal and don't want to spent more than twice as much, this is perfect!
Bang for the buck!
I have had one EHX Soulfood for a few years and I bought it for its great quality as a low gain OD. In this role I use it as an “always on” pedal and it enhances the tone of my JTM 45 set at slight breakup greatly, rendering a fat base tone with loads of harmonics and nice sustain.
I have now bought this second Soulfood to use as a slightly dirty solo-boost after my other ODs just before the amp. And it excels in this role as well. Plenty of gain to push the Marshalls input-stage and the ability to add more grit and bite with the tone and drive knobs. 5 stars for sound and versatility.
And it’s cheap as chips!
Standard sturdy EHX construction have held up for the 4 years I have had the first one. I hope this new one does the same.
I have heard that this is EHXs take on the legendary Klon Centaur but I have never tried that one out. It doesn’t matter neither. This pedal sounds great!
If you’re after a low gain OD and/or boost look no further! Get some Soolfood!
very controversial
For the moment is out of my rig. However sometime I use it and enjoy it ....but somehow I never find a place for it on my board!
A+
A nice, subtle pedal. I use with humbucker and single coil guitars. nice useable sound, subtle in nature and a true by-pass switch.
Great for edge of breakup, nice crunchy tone, terrible distortion.
Preis/Leistung stimmt hier!
Klon clone that sounds great.
Sound wise it is really lovely. You get a very klon like drive with this pedal. It goes from clean to quite dirty but usable tones.
Suits most of my needs. I boost it with another drive when needed.
The only complaint is that the knob is quite noisy and hard to push without shoes on. But that is just nitpicking.
It's Klon
Sounds exactly like Klon Centaur. No more, no less. Perfect pedal.
Solid
Great sound, nice metal case, footswitch need to be pressed down and click to actually trigger which isn't as smooth.
in case you want to safe ⬠5000
This pedal comes close to the famous Klon Centaur. It's also just a good overdrive pedal.
Wonderful creamy tone
Clear, rich sound on each drive level.
Super affordable Klon Clone
You could argue that it shows flaws in a side-by-side comparison with other "transparent overdrives", but during a gig as a light overdrive or boost it totally rocks and enriches your sound so so much.
Amazing pedal
I use this pedal with my Epiphone Les Paul Standard and Vox AC30 and the sound is amazing. It just makes your guitar come alive and punch through the mix. I am just amazed by the sound of the pedal. It should be noted that for that amazing sound you need to push the gain a bit harder (around 70%) otherwise it functions as a great boost/light overdrive pedal.
