Before going ahead, the string hasn't been used on a bass, but on an 8 string guitar. So unless this is exactly what you are planning to do, sorry you gonna have to scroll to the next review. As mentioned, I bought this XLB090 for my 8 string guitar, it's a Schecter Hellraiser Special with a 26.5" scale and hardtail bridge, tuned a half step down, so: F/A#/D#/G#/C#/F#/A#/D#. For the first 2 months of owning the guitar, I have used a .080 string thinking it would be a perfect fit. Turns out, at least personally, I required a way thicker string for the low F. I have a very good and professional bass guitar, a Schecter Hellraiser Extreme 5, but my amp, a Crate BT15 is a cheap one, which does not handle my bass appropriately. So I am always in the look for strings that will give me that sound closer to the sound of when I play in a big amp. Pyramid strings are exactly that. They sound new for a long time, they have a very good clarity, they are not floppy and additionally there is a great sound resemblance from string to string, especially from the B and E strings to the others, a hard thing to find. I haven't found out yet anything about their duration, since I am using them for a couple of months yet, but so far they don't seem to have lost their liveliness at all. I added this to my purchase of the 5-string set as there is no 6-string option so i will just copy the same review i did there: I have waited for months before writing this review as i was skeptical about the coating but i have been converted. I do not play daily and my bass can spend many weeks unplayed in my closet and previous string would inevitably degrade quite quickly even like this. These string on the other hand still sound like new after months and i could not be happier. Pros: - good sound - same "feel" as non coated strings - last much longer Cons: - price - no single set for 6-strings

I play mainly Drop Ab and these strings hold their tension incredibly well. I have a Harley Benton 5 String which is a great guitar but doesnt have the slace length that I am usually used to. However these strings at .160 gauge still seem to be able produce a tight low end that doesnt end up flubby and unmanageable. As well as the sound I also love the feel of the strings, bear in mind they are huge, the are very thick (obviously as .160 guage!) but they still feel easy to play, I did have to raise the action slight on the top string to accommodate them though. All in all, very good strings, I would definitely reccomend!.

I've been using this string in through-body bridges as with regular top-loading bridges with no issues. The winding near the ball is quite neat, so the string will fit as long as the bridge accommodates the .145 diameter of the string itself. Enlarging the nut slot will be required on most instruments, though (this can be done in a pinch by using a spare .145 string as a makeshift file) There's enough winding length to easily accommodate 35" scale length basses, or 34" string through body. There's about 1" of full-size winding behind the nut on my Ibanez BTB, so 36" might also be doable depending on bridge style.
