Ernie Ball 2834 Super Slinky

Use:

I used this set for Musicman sterling 4H.

pros & cons:

For Musicman basses is especially recommended. This set has bright and jangling high frequencies and fundamental lows.

The classic set

When I first got my stingray bass these were the strings that came with it. Tried different types of strings after that in the course of 3 years but always came back to this set. To me this set is to bass strings what stingray is to bass guitars. You can play pretty much everything with them.

A classic-well balanced gauging, right amount of flexibility across the neck, right amount of grip-resistance. Tone wise, they're very responsive. You can easily achieve a gnarling, aggressive or a much more mellow, round sound with them. Thus they can handle pretty much any playing style. They are a little bit on the bright side; if you want a darker sound and less brightness (for picking or reggae for instance) you can just dial it in on the eq and strings wont fight back in tone.

They do lose their brightness after a certain amount of playing but they last much longer than most of the other strings I tried and the "gnarling" never goes away. Highly recommended.

Super Strings

I always and only buy these strings for my electric bass and am always impressed by the quality of sound they produce. They also seem to last very well too, I wouldn't put anything else on my Warwick Corvette, perfect marriage. The brightness is retained for at least 4 months of constant usage and they are very comfortable for playing, jazz, blues and rock styles. Finger style and plectrum usage. 5 stars for me.

Awesome strings

I use the Ernie Ball 2834 Super Slinky Strings on my J-Bass Copy. There is nothing else to say than: perfect!

Sound: Nice funky sound, but also good for rock stuff or even some soul (especially when the strings are a bit older). They made my very cheap knock-off Jazz-Bass sound a lot better.

Quality: The strings don?t keep their brilliance clean sound (in the heights) very long. (Maybe because of my sweaty hands?!). But even after that loss of the clean heights they keep their characteristic growly sound in some way. On top of that I never had a dead or a broken string in one of my many packs (unlike some other companies strings).

All in all I?m just going to repeat myself: Perfect! They made my instrument sound a lot better!

Nice sound, mediocre longevity

The strings sound nice; warm and lush, with a bit of a rolled-off high frequency range. Unfortunately, they lasted a bit shorted than I expect of strings in this price range. This goes especially for the E-string, which started sounding dull just after a few hours. Still, some may like the sound so much they would be willing to overlook the longevity issue.

My personal favorite for Rock

I have tested some strings ... But the Ernie Ball strings are the best. Not go out of tune and have exactly the dirty rock sound I was looking for. Keep relatively long their tone. I've DR Lowrider, Boomers, fenders etc. tested - but the Ernies have THE sound for slightly dirty rock!

Gorgeous funky strings!

These strings are really cool. Gorgeous clean feel and a really funky sound. Ideally suited to the stingray, they will blow your mind when paired with that classic bass. But they're pretty versatile too and they sound great on any bass. Give them a try.

Ernie Ball Bass Super Slinky

These are simply the best bass strings I've ever used. I have 3 bass guitars, an active schecter, a fender Jass and a precision 'copy' I made myself and I've used a variety of strings over the years and these stay in tune better than any of the others that I've used. The winding seems to be smaller, giving them more mass and so a better sound. The schecter, which doesn't get used very often has had the same strings on for a few years now, and mine have not tarnished at all.

When I started on bass I made the mistake of using cheap strings the main problem was that each string had a different volume as the weights and mass was not very well balanced. That's easy to sort on a guitar by adjusting the screws in the pickups, but much harder to do on a bass, but the slinky were a good matched weight and I don't get that problem. I think good strings are the cheapest way to improve your sound.

my main bass stings

After I tried during the last years a lot of different bass strings I made best experiences with the Ernie Bass Super Slinky. I never had a dead string in a set. The sound has a clear character with a lot of rumbeling mids and high. I use one set normaly 3 - 5 weeks.
