Great Little Speaker

I needed something very portable for our gigs, yet with enough power to cope with all but the largest. This speaker does the job nicely, with excellent sound quality. The only issues which stop me giving it 5 stars are:- the handle recess needs to be made easier to grip without slipping and risk of dropping the unit, and it would be nice to have a power/peak led on the front panel, like the Yamaha DSR112.

Great as a floor wedge!

I bought these last summer, and have decided to write a review on them based on my experiences over the last year's use. I spent a lot of time searching for a set of small compact, active, all-round speakers before finally settling for the ZX-A1s. I have been using them mainly as floor monitors in a big band setup, but on occasion also as front fills, and once even as satellite speakers on a minor DJ gig. For their small size and relatively limited ability to put out low frequencies (having only an 8 inch woofer element), they actually sound great, and with a surprising amount of sound coming out! In my opinion, these speakers work great as allround floor wedges, possibly with the exception of bass guitarists. To prevent them from getting warm, I always activate the low cut filter. The carrying handles are smartly located at the rear-top, but not so smartly designed, since there's no real grip inside for your fingers to keep them from sliding out of your sweaty hands. They also have a fixed-angle when on the floor, without any practical way of changing the tilt angle. But all in all, I am very pleased with them.
