Best head for kick drums

I have tried many heads and this is by far the best. seats perfectly, has 2 dampening options. crazy durable and great sound.

Bought and will always buy again!!

Was looking for a batter head without having to add any further external muffling to get that good sound from the bass drum. After trying out the two different dampening hoops which are included, I can only say that this is my go-to bass head from here on out. More than satisfied and can only highly recommend!

Best bass head!

The muffling helps a lot, no more overtones, just a clean and strong bass hit. Its good that theres 2 size mufflers, even with out them the sounds still great and not too long. Very resistant drum head, its the beat for drumsets, maybe not for jazz and something lighter, but its great

Awesome (specific) aggressive sound

This gives you a very specific sound that is exactly what I was looking for:

• Quick decay (it doesn't do "booeoenng", it does "THUMP")

• Just enough lows to be present in the mix and fat

• Some nice high frequencies that give it a strong bite for more aggressive styles (metal, punk, rock...)

In terms of sound if you are into hard and modern sound it is probably one of the best choices in the market!

Welcome to thump town

Want a fat, punchy kick? Buy this head, slap it on and you barely have to tune it. If your reso head has a bit of muffling on it as well, you will not need additional muffling with this head, ever. The head is unlikely to break easily due to its thickness.

Only downside might be for people who use triggers that are mounted on the kick and the sensor rests against the kick drum head. The muffling ring on EMADs can get in the way and make triggering a bit of a hassle.

And I guess it's not the most versatile head in the world, but what it's meant for, it does great.

perfect 'slap' sound with a nice wet attack and decay giving the perfect punch to any metal/heavy drummer.

Totally changed the sound of my kick

Just changed out my old crappy Stock Tama Single Plie skins on my Imperial Star Kit. I choose the EMAD Heavyweight because I wanted more tight and defined kick sound. I was not dissapointed. I use the wider external dampening ring and combined with the EMAD Reso Head it sounds exactly how I wanted it to. I barely needed to fine tune the kick, It has some much attack even without a klick pad. It works perfectly for Metal and Rock. I love it.

Great sound and quality at all! Easy to tune with the two variable and replaceable rings.

For me this is the head which I prefer above all others, it has just overtones which I like but it has strong punch with extra deep bass, quality is admirable, you can hit and hit but there is a constant great sound and no damages...

You get what you pay for

I purchased this kick head 1 year ago, and I am more than pleased.

I play hard rock, so my kickdrum get a beating every time I gig or practice.

This head is very strong, offers a great and natural kick sound. I've mounted it on my Sonor Force 2000 kit, and would never consider getting anything else.

For my kickdrum sound the major problem was always the unwanted resonance and the need for extra muffling. I have a pillow inside my kickdrum, and the added muffling from the ring that comes with this head brings out the perfect tone I expect from my kit.

The head itself is of very high quality, but I would never hit it without some sort of protection (see the Remo Falam Slam or the Danmar equivalent)

All in all, a great sounding, great feeling, and very strong kickdrum head.

Excellent Bass drum head!

This is by far the best bass drum head I have ever used! Great for rock drumming and getting that punchy bass drum sound!

It turned my 50$ kick drum into 150$ kick drum..very cool and punchy sound..its like putting a trigger on your bas drum, but its not digital :D

It didn't fit my 80s Pearl BD. (See Update)

I have an old 1980s Pearl Export kit, all very standard but strangely the claws for the bass drum head have like a "dew-claw" at the back which doesn't do much but makes sure the head and hoop are in contact with each other even if the head is loose. The problem is: This head doesn't fit the bass drum/hoops with these claws. You can get about 80% on but no matter if you try starting on one side or opposite pairs by the time you get 2 left there is a cm gap between the hoop and the rim of the head. No amount of forcing will get it to go on.Even with 2 of us forcing it together and one sitting on the bass drum hoop.

By this time the tuning bolts were starting to bend out of shape.

UPDATE: I had to order a set of Stagg Claws as the fault is really with the Pearl Bass drum...

So with the new claws I was finally able to fit the Evans. There are 2 foam ring dampeners that fit the external collar. The small one had enough dampening to give a good solid thud. Unless I wanted a 1970s disco thud I can't see that I would use the thicker dampener.

Glad I was able to fit it as it is a great sound. Hopefully won't have to change it now for another 30 years LOL!

Great Bass Drum head

As soon as I've put this head on, my bass drum came alive and sounded great.

This drum head is easy to use and easy to tune. They also hold their tune very well and last a long time.

The 2 included muffle rings and protection sticker are an awesome added feature.

I would suggest at least trying these drum heads.

Best bassdrum head I ever used.

This is hands down the best bass drum head I've ever used to give the sound I'm looking for from a bass drum. Rich but focused tone, with INCREDIBLE attack and slap. Unrivaled durability and feel. This is a real must buy for all you drummers who are looking for a fat bass drum sound with plenty of attack, but without being too thin and clicky. This is THE head.

Loads of punch and attack

When I bought my second hand kit it came with Evens EQ3 fitted on the kick drum and had a massive sound even though the drum head looked pretty battered from the previous owner. At least the guys i sometimes play with kept saying that they feel my kicks in their chests (in a small room and no amplification on the drums). Then i noticed a rip in the outer ply underneath the patch where the beater hits and so it was time for a new one. For the reason to get one that lasts me as long as possible i went for the Evans EMAD Heavyweight risking some loss of sound in exchange of punch.

After fitting the the new head the tuning was easy. I went for the lowest possible pitch without wrinkles as it suits most of the music i like playing (Rock) and used the tinner of the two dampening rings it comes with. The punch now is massive again and the attack is huge. Where the old one had a big "Plop"-sound to it with the new one it sounds as if a "F" has been added to make it "PFlop". It sounds just great. I only practise with headphones on for ear protection and thus its more the feel in my body than an actual tone. Sure it wouldn't suit for Jazz and softer styles but if Rock is the main music played then it is a good choice. Now i just have to find out how long it will last me because that was my main concern to get the Heavyweight in the first place.

It arrived in perfect condition and including a single EQ protection patch, which should be added in the product discription as i bought this seperately and now with a single pedal is a leftover. So for double pedal players an additional patch needs to be bought if not a double patch.

All in all a great product and the dampening system works just perfect, in my case with some muffling inside the kick drum with access through a hole in the reso-head for more fine tuning.
