as i said in the title - these heads are excellent for brushes but there is a bit too much of a 'pingy' ring to them when hard sticked - this is with a range of sticks - they are hardwearing so would be great for your rehearsal kit but for studio work i would consider them quite genre specific. They hold their tune well - i am using them with a mapex powerhoop and they fit well to the bearing head and they dont take too long for them to settle in and dont need any retuning work unless you are wanting to change pitch. A good addition to the tone arsenal.

For any type of modern music where you want punchy tones, clear double-ply heads are a surefire choice. The G2s are a great choice for their high quality, tuning range, durability, and most importantly, sound. This set of heads is extremely good value for its price. I have a drumkit with five toms and with this set I can save a significant amount of money and get a great sound for recording or live situations. Personally, I don't hear much difference in tone or sustain between the different brands of heads, unlike like seemingly large portion of reviewers and commenters. For me, these are not dead or dull sounding heads by any means, and I suspect there is more psychology involved than actual differences in sound. These are exactly what I was looking for! I decided to treat myself and re-skin my kit no too long ago, the first time since I bought the kit. After about 11 months the stock head just weren't what they used to be. (I had already changed the snare head out a few times) These heads have all the attack you would ever want, without the long sustain you don't. For me, mostly playing a broad spectrum of rock and metal, these heads are perfect, They're by no means quiet, rather they punch through the other sounds of the kit. I have used them in a live setting without mic-ing them up! As far as tuning goes, I used the Evans tourqe/tension key. I had an 8 piece kit tuned in a matter of hours. I'm really happy with these heads!

I play metal, and I've always used clear heads for my toms. However, after I bought the Yamaha Tour Custom 8000 set, I decided to go with coated heads. I play metal, and the toms of my Yamahas are pretty deep, deeper than the drums they make now. I wanted to have this powerful, but deep sound (which is helped by the construction of the Yamahas). So far I haven't regretted my decision, as the toms sound really nice, warm and deep. Most probably clear heads would have sounded good as well, but for now, I will stick with the coated ones.

Very good product! As a drummer, my style ranges from 70s Prog and Psych Rock to Indie and I bought this set for my first Drum Set (Yamaha Stage Custom with 12" and 14" and 18" Toms). I remember that I was really satisfied with the sound they made right out of the box, they must be tuned a little bit lower, better frequences. It does really improve your drum set sound but cuts a little bit on the sustain (because of the oil between layers). For me that's not really a problem. Don't be scared if (with regular playing) they appear really used, its normal in these heads. It does really fit the genres I play as I preffer a instant attack on the toms, and they do really punch quite hard, don't sound (at all) "muddy" if tunned right. I love Evans, all of their products are amazing. I record a lot in my studio, and these heads are simply amazing. Sound is amazing, quality is superb, unbelievable durability. I usually like to have fresh new heads for every studio work, BUT sometimes it can happen that I have a sudden recording request, and I might not have new heads in stock, or I might have to start the sessions right away. In that case I'm anyway going to be alright, because these heads are phenomenal, and will endure hours and days or weeks of heavy hitting. No loss in quality or sound. Evans is just the best for how I play!

Used this set as resonant skins on a premier artist maple kit paired with Evans G2 on the batter side of the toms. They are quite easily tuned and have a nice ring and tone to them. When tuned correctly with the G2 there is a very nice resonance between the skins. The quality of these skins is excellent, all skins have performed well for the past couple of years and have just now been replaced by exactly the same product. Would recommend the G1s as resonant heads for people who are looking to use lower tom tunings for added depth and power to the standard thickness resonant heads.

Singly ply, slightly dampened compared to Remo equivalent. Coating seems harder wearing too. I find with single ply more overtones and high end ring. More brightness and while the sustain is less, generally quite sensitive. They are the least durable batter heads so ideal for lighter playing styles (jazz, lighter rock, but they can also produce a big, boom sound for louder styles, just expect pitting and rapid wear. Think I'm trying G2's next. Also doesn't help if you take a heavy pair of sticks to them compared to some nice 7A's.

a very easy to mount skin with a smoking hot look the onyx set tuned up very quickly and evenly, even with a rather cheap nasty torque key. the set has quite a high attack rate even when tuned quite low. even without control rings they cut pretty quick and overtones aren't a problem. coupled with the evans hydraulic black snare skin i got the sound i was looking for at a very good price. they seem very hard wearing and dont appear to dent or lose the coating and i tend to be a bit rough as many amateurs are. i would give them a five star rating for sound and durability. the only downside to them is, overall volume is diminished compared to the skins that came with my gretch g2 studio kit but i guess if you mic up its not an issue. they will most likely become my standard set in future purchases.

the ambassador series are the number one choice for me as the batter and resonant heads, like many drummers. These suit pretty much and style of playing with outstanding durability (even though they are rated medium). They are known for their longer sustain than other series but this can be varied depending on how you tune your drums. I find that the coating rarely erodes when struck compared to the emperor heads allowing them to keep the warm but bright attack sound for longer. i would recommend this pack to all drummers looking to change from other brands as these improve the sound of any drum you have.
