EVE audio SC205
Active 2-Way Studio Monitor

Controller chip cheaply made
One of them completely failed after 7 years. Although that's not an obscene time, it turns out this is actually a common problem with these speakers. Had mine been an exception, I would have been okay with it, but it's not one. It's common, and it's not been addressed by Eve Audio either.
These speakers aren't made to last like other studio monitors. When I turn it on, even without any audio cable plugged in, it starts generating a loud phasing and sweeping white noise sort of. That's similar to what has happened with others', and some in the know says it's the controller chip that's bad, and that seems likely considering the symptoms.
Also noticed is that after just a few years, I'd start having issues with the control knob freezing, so I had to pull the power and restart the speaker. This has happened with both my speakers. Which is likely related to the controller chip as well. That in itself wasn't a big issue since it didn't stop functioning, was easily fixed and happened rarely.
Also reported is that Eve Audio doesn't acknowledge the issue and then have taken no public steps in improving the quality. Needless to say, I can't buy any more speakers from them, as they obviously don't deliver the necessary trust in their products.
It is a shame, because other than that, these speakers are great. I AB-ed them when buying them, and the ribbon tweeters really gives wonderful responsive transients. The control knob is good, and the fade-in and fade-out they do on power on and power off is nice. They deliver a solid punch for their size, also in the low end.
EDIT 26.8.2023: Second one just failed as well, only a few months after the first one. It also generates random noise at power on.
Great monitors, nice crisp mids and beautiful lush lows
Fair price, extremely clear and nice balance!
GOOD SOUND
The music sounds with great sonic details and powerful bass, and the vocal part blends into the music clearly and naturally
Outstanding speaker!
My second near field monitor, it really helps to understand the mix. A treated room willl help to get the best out of these. They may seem small but the bass is very present. I would probably go for the bigger model if I only had enough place on my desk.
nice sounding speakers
German made - amazing quality. Best on the market in the budget.
Really the best in its class
If you mix music and are looking to upgrade your studio monitors from the sub-optimal entry-level models, this is the one!
Their frequency response is super flat and their transients reproduction is stellar!
Depending on the size of your room you might wanna buy the bigger model (SC207), but for most bedroom producers this model is gonna be the perfect match.
For the job it’s advertised ( quality sound reproduction) it’s absolutely amazing for the price. It doesn’t have lots of SPL and sounds a little distorted at really high levels but it’s not meant to be used as a party speaker. At low to medium levels - really well done.
Stereo separation and overall sound is just a tiny bit towards Hi-Fi side but not in a bad way. I previously had professional monitors which were a little fatiguing on the ears after listening to them for longer periods - EVE’s don’t fatigue the ear at all and sounds very balanced. One thing to mention - they aren’t mid forward so in a professional scenario you might want to pair these with other speakers for monitoring. But all in all - very very nice and I’d say they’re perfect for home studio scenarios.
A few negatives... build quality is just okay - small bits of glue there and there and LEDS on one monitor are brighter which is really annoying when working in the dark. It doesn’t compromise the sound in any way but I would call it far from “premium” feel monitors and even cheaper models have better build quality.
No high pass filter even though one DIP switch is left unused is also a negative as it makes it harder to pair with other subwoofers and it simply could have just been indcluded.
Overall - I’m quite happy with the purchase and hope that the interiors are made better than aesthetics. Sound quality wise - it’s really REALLY good and I would highly recommend it if sound quality is nr.1 priority.
P.S. Their support team is really a pleasure and are willing to spend time to make their customers happy
Crystal clear sound!
Purchased these as my rear surround monitors for the studio, sound great, perform well, and look awesome. Plenty of features too so you can get the sound to suit your room.
Highly recommend these and any monitors from EVE.
Great sound!
These speakers have great sound for their price point and also are really easy to setup being active speakers. With the DSP settings built in, they can easily be setup to fit the environment that they are in!
