I was contemplating for a while if it is worth spending the amount of money on an attenuator/dummy load that would buy you a small tube amp head. However, I couldn't be happier with my decision. While most competitors offer either just a resistive load or are quite limited when it comes to connectable impedances and attenuation levels that can be set, the RockCrusher offers the full plethora of options: - Reactive dummy load (mimics a "real" speaker. for more realistic feel) - Attenuator - Connect your cab and attenuate -3dB, -6dB, -12dB, -16dB, -20dB or switch into "Studio" mode, which activates the "level" knob to further fine tune the volume down to volumes that are below my typing on the computer keyboard. - "Edge" and "Warm" boost...

Tone King Ironman II Mini Attenuator

I bought this to use with my Marshall SV20, since it is way too loud and doesn't have a master volume. It's amazing to have so many options to attenuate your amp with quality without paying more than 500 euros. I feel like there is some minimal coloration on the sound, but I could be mistaken. Either way, I can get many amazing sounds on the amp while using this device. The high cut option is noce, but I don't really like what happens to the "Marshall sound" when I use it. I would also have liked to have more impedance options, because I don't find it worth it to pay double the price for the bigger Iron Man just to be able to use 16 Ohms. All in all, I really love this piece of gear. I use this one for my Marshall cab and a Torpedo Captor 16 Ohm for my other cabs.

Boss WAZA Tube Amp Expander

Boss WAZA Tube Amp Expander

I own a Mesa Mark V:35 and at home I could never use it at a volume higher than the lowest at which it would produce a sound. I needed some nice way to reduce the volume so I went looking for a solution. Clearly the WAZA tube amp expander has two other competitors, the OX Box and the Captor X. After checking all the options around, the WAZA really surpases, to me, the competition given the nice sounds of their reverb (which replaced my pedal) and delay (which I don't really use) and the easier to operate sound than the OX. It only loses a start in features for two reasons: 1. It requires a wired USB connection from my laptop 2. It would be really nice to have double microphone option in the cab simulator.

Universal Audio OX Amp Top Box

I live in an apartment and use the OX with headphones and it's an unbelievable tool for getting the most out of my tube amp at home. I also use it in recording setting without the speaker engaged to prevent microphone bleed and again it does not disappoint. Because of the OX I've gotten to become far more familiar with everything my amp, pedals, and guitars are capable of and I yet to experiment more with the different microphone and post effects available with the software. One drawback is that the cable that powers the OX is faulty and has the tendency to fall out because of a poor connection. Despite this, I would recommend this product to everyone. It's been a game-changer for me

Tube Amp Doctor Silencer 8 Ohms Black

It tooks me lot of time to be able to buy my dream amp. The thing is that cranck that precious at home is impossible without a power soak. The one big question is : witch one ? - The high end one cost more than 1000 euros - The inexpensive one cost less than 100 euros, but i was quite hesitant to have wait and spend so much money on my amp head to finally put some cheap gear on it (even it might be good for their prices) So, i decided to go for this one, at "middle" price range and i am very happy of it. The main pro are: - Sounds quality when you use it. Of course, i can't compete the amp without it. But still very good - The 2d very good point is the ability to use it as load box (without a speaker) but warning, you have to set the power soak manually on it. Still, it's...

SPL Reducer

SPL Reducer

This is a passive attenuator which does not alter the guitar's tone unlike active attenuators do. It is very simple and easy to use and the minimal features may also preserve the guitar's tone, just like a simple guitar amp when compared to a more complex amp. Also, it can attenuate up to 200W of power (for 8 ohm cabinets) which is one of the most powerful I've come across on the market. I was considering getting an other type of attenuator which uses a speaker motor and is said to be even more transparent on tone but SPL's professional site and informative video demos on YouTube convinced me to make the choice to get this attenuator instead. I also want to mention that SPL have a very helpful service and will answer all your questions. Personally, I will order a second copy of this...

TAD Silencer 16 Ohms Black

Great choice for those who owns non-master volume guitar amp like "plexi", etc. Of course usable also for those who owns master volume amps, but they want to crack the master volume to get that famous overdriven sound from the saturated power tubes ! I checked the silencer in both above described situations and it works perfectly ! The sound is really nice, rich and full, without any significant affection of the overall tone. This particular type can handle either 1x16 Ohm cabinet, or 2x8 Ohm cabinets. You are able to attenuate the overall volume of your amp in several steps (each = 2 dB) up to - 16 dB (using the left pot), but if you need you can go even lower (up to 0 db) using the right pot of the attenuator what is really practical if you want to crack the amp to the bedroom...

Harley Benton PA-100 Power Attenuator

Like the majority of people who buy this, I wanted a way to record my amp silently. I didn't want to pay over 200 euros for a "reactive" load which isn't really reactive (to get reactive you have to pay a lot more than 200, the closest popular "reactive" competing product is actually not properly reactive but uses it more as a marketing tool). It turns out this HB attenuator does a fantastic job at providing a clear line out signal. Running a Laney Ironheart at 60 watts at high volume, the attenuator doesn't seem to heat up at all. It's completely silent. Also, the actual attenuation (which for most people is just a side bonus feature) is great! Now I can have my master volume cranked up, my channel volumes cranked up, and the overall speaker output down at 0.5/10....

Bugera PS1 Power Soak

Bugera PS1 Power Soak

Based on 54 reviews

I've tested 3 attenuator: Bugera PS 1 at ¤79 Jettenuator at ¤128 SPL Reducer at ¤369 The SPL and Jettanuator use fancy aluminium housed resistors, the Bugera has plain ceramic resistor that sit elevator from the pcb for cooling. All 3 devices have just resistors inside, I was expecting some additional components in SPL to justify the price, but only the housing is nicer, the electronics are not. The SPL has a noisy and cracking potentiometer, the other 2 are noiseless when adjusting the damping level. The Bugera has an extra feature in the dail that consists of a magnet, a metal plate and an unknown wired component. I'm not sure what this is for, but I think it's to stabilize the resistance of the potentiometer. The more expensive Jettenuator has the same...
