All hail the short scale!
I am a guitar player with smaller hands and have always been plagued by a lack of pinkie power on longer stretches on my 34" scale bass. Enter the short scale bass.
My set up is primarily home recording. I was looking for a fatter, rounder bass tone and ended up digging the looks of the Fallout bass. My old bass is a Squier P-J bass. I Immediately noticed how much more comfortable the bass is to play. 4 inches makes quite a difference (that's what she...oh nevermind). The bass is balanced well and there is a lot less neck dive.
I was a little concerned that one humbucker my not offer enough in the way of tonal options but after watching (and listening to) some videos online and playing the bass myself ,the toggle switch provides three options with the ability to tweak further with the master tone control. I like all of the sounds: Humbucker, Single, and OMG - which I'm guessing can only be truly appreciated through a real bass rig, but sounds good to me through headphones.
The tuners are pretty responsive to small turns and not stiff (which I like). There are also some tools included to make adjustments so take a good look when unpacking your bass (I heard my tool baggie hit the floor when I was cleaning up all the packing as it arrives in a box). The volume and tone knobs do not have set screws, they are push on pull off and depending on your pickguard plastic you may have to pull the knobs off and unscrew the toggle to the get at the plastic underneath. When I pushed the knobs back on they still felt snug - which was reassuring. I did have to make a small neck adjustment to my liking - you may or may not have to do the same.
Overall I'm very happy with the bass and was pleasantly surprised by how it good it sounds and how well it plays.
