For the rock drummer on a budget.

I was originally looking to get my hands on the Taylor Hawkins signature snare from Gretsch but when he sadly passed away a few years ago the line was discontinued. This is almost the exact same drum (His version had a 30 degree bearing edge whereas this has a 45) without the Taylor Hawkins badge. This is a wonderful product with top of the line quality and sound. The colour is beautiful and the diverse amount of sounds that can be achieved is impressive as you can have the batter head very loose and still get a nice sound out of it, or tighten it right up and it gives a lovely crisp snap. Overall I am absolutely delighted with it and would be happy to buy more Gretsch products in the future. This is the snare for someone who wants quality without breaking the bank. I may change out the hoops for the thinner old school ones as the tone is supposed to be better. I also bought a remo emperor x batter head with it but haven't needed it yet as even the stock head is of quality.

Replace the heads, especially the snare head

So I found tuning the snare problematic, the snare head looks to be a cheap no brand and during tuning the snare head split, so I ended up replacing both with evans heads, I also swapped out the wires for Puresound wires. Tuning was easy and sounds great now.
