I have purchased this snare a little over a month and boy oh boy is it a great one! I didn't really expect this quality fot this price. Packaging was good, out of the box snare was tuned perfectly, paint finish was immaculate. I play almos every day and I'm very satisfied with the sound and loudness of this snare. For those who look for a good but affordable snare for metal (or any other genre, to be honest), well, look no more because you found it. Though I suggest changing batter head, but this one will do for the short time if you're a hard hitter.

DW 14"x08" Performance Steel

This snare drum sounds fantastic. The construction is exactly what you would expect from DW, and so it feels like it could survive just about anything. The finish is of a high quality, and it looks great with its chrome shell. The first thing to say about it is that it can get loud. It has no issues with cutting through a mix, and there is a pleasing crack off it when tuned high. The size of the drum also allows for low tunings, making this a really versatile drum to use as a main or side snare. The DW standard heads are great, so it's good to go straight out of the box. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this snare drum.

I am amazed at the sound of this snare. The build is robust and professional (and yes, that's an original DW MAG throw off, in case you were wondering). Have only had it for a week, but am completely in love with the punch, clarity and flexibility in tuning. The "DW by Remo" batter head is perfectly decent and there's no need to change it, but I've replaced that with a red Evans Hydraulic; it gives me more punch, is easier to tune, and I can live with losing a little, not too much, expression. Best purchase this year, strongly recommend.

I bought this as my first snare and I got to say I am not disappointed. For the price it's sold at, I believe it's a good deal for anyone who is looking to build a rock drumset like me. I use some duct tape on it to achieve the sound I want, but doing that on the snared exactly as it arrived (but tuned) works great for the house shows my band plays and also for recording. One con I can give it is that it is not that small compared to other to carry, and that might be a bit of a hassle for some people/travelling musicians. On my behalf, it's really nothing much as as big as it is it is also composed and looks like it can stand the test of time, even though i've only had it for 2 months (as off now, it has had daily use and has been carried everywhere and presents zero harm. All in all...

It is very strange to have a snare drum which is still not announced at manifacters website, but this limited edition drum is really something special. I love deep snares (although they can be unpractical to carry nad set up) and very appreciate Tama and their S.L.P.snare drum line. A already have Studio Maple model which is excellent so I had faith in this one as well. I don't like black finishes, but the solution with matte-black beaded steel shell with black nickel hardware is very nice. However, there could be problem with cleaning and maintenance since the matte surface is very sensitive. I don't mind long tension rods and big lugs, but Silvestar-like throw-off is a bit disappointing. Also, I am not thrilled with hi-carbon Starclassic snare because I find it to aggresive to my...

Well, this is my first snare. Watched a bunch of reviews and decided to get this one. Changed the batter head to a Remo Ambassador, put on 1 moon gel and MAN it sounds amazing. Even with the stock snare side head. Compared it to my friends 14x8 Black Beauty and I actually prefer mine (of course haha). Great snare response, great punch. Easily tunable. Obviously perfect for rock drummers. The only con are the lugs but you can easily fix that with some tension keepers. Overall I highly recommend this product, Great build quality. Cant wait to gig with this beauty!

Millenium 14"x3,5" Piccolo Steel Snare

I replaced the stock snare on my Mapex Tornado with this. This is an AMAZING snare drum for 55 euro! It is very nice and crisp. It would have sounded good with a big of moongel on the stock head. However, I replaced the stock head with an Evans Black Hydraulic head and put on a Gibralter 42 strand snare wire. It has a super crisp cracking sound with no snare buzz. For a more jazzy tone the stock snare wire would suit just fine. I have played alot of picollo snares and this is as good as any of them. I had a Tama picollo snare that wasn't half as good as this. The only picollo I played that sounded better than this was a pearl picollo with a floating head. That drum cost 8 x the price as this little beauty!

As a drum sceptic I believe at least 95% of a drum's sound is down to the heads and how well it is made. This snare on initial impression is made well enough to be a very good snare drum. It is slightly off round but not abnormally so and the edges seem to be very flat and smooth. I would advise greasing the "cam" and "slider" on the strainer, after that it works very well. All threads work smoothly even without grease and nearly everything is finished very well and looks excellent. My snare wire had some sharp ends left which may have damaged the head, but after removal of these it's fine. The plastic mouldings need a little trimming. Lower grade metals may have been used but only time will tell if it is strong enough. Unfortunately you never know if materials are...

Millenium 14"x6,5" Power Steel Snare

For the price you get a decently made snare which sounds pretty much as you'd expect a thin metal snare to sound. You either need that sound in your arsenal or you don't. With upgraded heads, correct dampening, tuning and technique to taste you'll get a decent sound out of it if that is your thing. It is pretty much like every 'free' snare that comes with a starter kit, but I've found the millennium range to strike a decent balance in regards to value for money as for what you pay, there seems to be very little drawback if you need a 6.5" steel snare except it is unlikely to hold any second hand value. Thin rolled steel, folded seams, bearing edges fine, straight sides, no middle ring, decent rims, rattle, throw, tuning rods and retainers. I'm guessing you aren't buying this...

I was really pleased with this drum as a first drum and great value but the drum head has only lasted 3 classes and 2 street performances so be prepared to change it pretty soon. One of my friends bought on after seeing mine and hers went even faster (1 class, 1 street performance). No way was it abused and tuned straight away by my teacher who is a very experienced drummer. Disappointing and I would expect more from Ludwig but in ways I am glad to change it, sounds much better with a Evans G1. The drum itself is great for the money.
