Harley Benton GS-Travel-E Mahogany Reviews
Harley Benton GS-Travel-E-Mahogany
Lovely wee guitar. Just what I was looking for.
Excellent value for the money
Good for the price but the action was a problem
Almost after a month of usage, the action got disturbed and the 1st sting started touching the fretboard. I tried fixing it with the supplied Allen key but now the general tuning is compromised in the higher frets. The guitar is not sounding very good anymore. But overall a good copy of the original Taylor guitar.
Amazing little guitar
For the price... where would you find a guitar that sounds great and is nice to play. I bought the one with the pick up and it works perfectly.
Love it!
Super Little Guitar
I am a rank beginner and wanted a smaller guitar -reasonably priced to start learning on. I don't have a more expensive guitar to compare it to but the sound is terrific. I'm a singer and once I had the guitar set up-always advisable with a guitar out of the box- apparently, plus softer strings for my newbie fingers I was ready. I love this guitar! I play every day and often have trouble putting it down. It's a perfect accompaniment-my playing is improving all the time. A really good little starter guitar to learn on. I got the E as it has a pick up in case I wanted to use it with an amplifier and that works very well too.
Buy it.
Have had this guitar for a month and it is simply great. I am a singer currently studying jazz. All my guitarist friends have been astonished by the character, playbility , tone and practicality of this instrument.
The sound is big(chords and lines) and it feels so comfortable to play anywhere. This is probably the most comfortable guitar from sitting on a couch to lying down and noodlin. You will be picking this guitar so many times you will be surprised.
Very light also, carrying this guitar around will make your life so much easier.
Because of the price I thought there would be intonation problems but this is a well intonated instrument.
Amplification system is there and will never bother you or get in your way. Just plug and play. And it sounds good!
Looks are also great! Headstock is very elegant with tuners that hold their tuning.
The arched back just makes you want to cuddle with it.
To summarize, buy it. What you will get is an instrument with character that can seriously stand its ground!
Oh and don't keep the factory strings forever.Personally I would recommend some coated strings as they have proved me that they are worth it.
I was very surprised by the superb fit and finish and the great fretwork and overall set -up. I was expecting to have to do some work here on the set-up but straight out of the box was perfect and I didnt have to alter anything. I didnt even put on the Elixir strings that I bought for it yet!!!! Being that this is a small cheap guitar I really was not expecting much sound wise - but boy I was shocked and surprised by the great sound and warmth and richness of it, I'm sure because it is the mahogany version. Two weeks on and I'd addicted and I havnt played any of my electrics or my expensive dreadnaught, - I honestly cant put this down. So nice, comfortable and easy to play, perfect for on the couch. I'm looking for something negative to say but I just cant find anything to complain about. It is an Amazing guitar!!!
Great value
Was looking for a smaller sized guitar and saw the positive reviews for this guitar and couldn't argue with the price. Received the guitar in about 2 weeks, pretty quick to Australia. Played beautifully out of the box and exactly what I was looking for. Have not been able to put it down. Sounds pretty decent plugged in as well.
needs an individual upgrade, after 5 stars for sound
Harley Benton GS-Travel-E Mahogany
Pros
Price!
Neck profile is nice and feels good to play
Sounds great for such a small acoustic
Comes with a nice gig bag
Cons
Fretboard was very dried out and in need of treatment when I got it
Pick-guard was peeling
No controls for volume but expected for the price
Overall
Excellent little guitar, no issues out of the ordinary for the price range and all issues I found were easily fixed and didn't hurt playability too much out of the box. Sounds good and nice to play. I'd buy one again.
Unbelievably Good Guitar for the money
Ordered this guitar after reading all the feedback from various other owners. Beautifully made, no visible issues with it, lovely but slightly darker sound than from my Spruce topped electro-acoustic guitar.
It will be absolutely great as a travelling guitar especially with it's included gig bag.
Don't delay, this is the bargain of the year.
Excellent
I got this for a student as part of a package that included the HB -20 Acoustic Amp. The rig works well, but I was particularly impressed with this acoustic guitar out of the box. It plays great and looks fantastic , and I cant believe how nice it is for the price, so nice in fact that I am going to purchase another to keep as a spare. I have also noticed that it would take a little adjustment to improve the action if required, but there is definitely nothing wrong with it as it is. Get one bought and be impressed!
Great little guitar
Brought to go travelling with as it will fit in overhead locker on flight. have not put it down since it arrived. Plays great out of the box. Action a bit high but will sort that out when I change the strings.
Update:- I have used busking through a portable pa and for open mic nights and it sounds awesome. Everyone that plays it loves it.
I think you are getting more than what you payed for.
It's an amazing guitar. Very comfortable to play. The sound is exceptional; both with and without an amplifier at this price range. Built quality is very good. There are some loose nuts and all but I would easily ignore all the for the guitar I'm getting at this price range. It also includes a gig bag, one cheap but working amp cable and a truss rod adjustment tool.
I will definitely recommend this guitar!
Shockingly good.
I own a GS Mini (love it). My brother purchased the HB GS-Traveler and the sound is exceptionally impressive for about 1/5 of the price. Incredible value.
Great size, great sound, great Value
I had a Baby Taylor (20 y.o.) made in USA and this GS-Travel is not less of a guitar than the Baby Taylor.
Very articulate due to the Mahogany body, the short scale makes it very easy to play for most people. Players with larger hand might see this one as a bit of a challange.
I'm not a fingerstyle player, but this does well on both strumming and fingerstyle.
The action could be a bit lower, this is something to check on the first string exchange.
Also there are a few minor finishing issues, but if you step back a bit you wont notice them.
Overall, for the price this is a very impressive guitar and one of the best value for money arround.
For the the price is good
is good but ive wating more
You will be surprised
I definitely was. a great instrument for the price. Totally recommend it...
bang for buck !!
At this price point you can't go wrong, like many of the reviews I have to sing from the same hymn sheet. great sound, good build, looks stunning.
For the Price? Awesome Little Guitar
I read lots of reviews of this guitar before I ordered one. Virtually all said it's actually very good for the price; great value for money. I don't always believe everything I read, or watch on YouTube, but in this case I agree.
1. it's a little guitar .. it certainly is a Mini, like a very similar Taylor .. but it really packs a punch; it sounds really really good.
2. Quality is fine. I've read others saying they'll change this and that, eventually, but I'm not in a hurry. A quick tune straight out of the box, and I was impressed straight away. Only thing, the pickup had come loose, and I had to re-attach it for now. I recall 'China Guitar Sceptic' had the same problem, but it'll be an easy fix I hope. That's why I put 4 stars for quality, and it's a minor thing .. it really deserves 5 stars .. And despite that, it played really nice, action was fine for me, strings feel okay, finish is really nice ... I'm going to tell all my friends who need another acoustic to buy one too; actually even if they don't need one, get one anyway. Only question I have ... should I put some strap buttons on and fit a strap? It's so small I can probably get away without a strap ... I'll think about that for a while. Should you get one? At the current pricing, I don't think you could go wrong .... Go ahead !!
Use it on vacation
Fun little guitar that has excellent quality. Rings out acoustically and sounds excellent through my amp. One string peg needed to be seated but otherwise traveled well to me.
