Harley Benton TE-40 TBK Deluxe Series Reviews
Awesome.
Worth much more that the actual price. If you want a guitar and you don't won't to spend much, buy this one. Much better than guitars around 350-450€ for sure.
Great humbucking tele . nice warm pickups sounds like it looks!
Breathtakingly Beautiful Instrument!
I bought this guitar because I have been wanting to get a "tele" with humbuckers. I play gigs and do a lot of home recording, everything from classic rock to blues and ambient instrumentals. I saw this guitar reviewed on the Youtube Guitar Max channel, and decided to give it a go.
Considering the low price, I expected it to be a cheap instrument that would need a lot of aftermarket upgrades to be playable, especially the pickups. I was really surprised how good it really is. The Roswell pickups have plenty of bite, and the tone is great. The only thing I found that I might replace is the tuning machines, but once it is in tune, I haven't had any issues with it falling out, and I do a lot of bending. The carved top, binding, and gold haedware against the gloss black finish are stunning. It looks like an expensive custom guitar. Frets, neck, fretboard, finish, and electronics are as good as Fenders I have purchased. If this guitar was twice the price, it would still be a good deal.
In summary, this is a beautiful guitar at a steal of a price. The tuners could be better, but they are not horrible. Overall, it's one of the best investments I have made in a long time. I hope to get more Harley Benton products in the future.
great tele!
this is the 3rd time ive bought a harley benton tele, and they are pretty much the same quality wise. once you trim the nut a bit and work on the action, these are great guitars for the price
TE-40 TBK - my honest review
This is an initial review of this guitar, as I received it yesterday. My review will talk about the whole process of me purchasing this guitar.
I ordered the guitar last week, but I chose the wrong payment option, so there was a delay - I chose the direct bank payment instead of VISA - which I should have chosen. So, the money was transferred on Saturday and I received notification that it would be delivered yesterday.
I sent the sales contact a couple of emails, I received a reply within 24 hours, which is excellent, and expecting any faster response is unreasonable as the sales contact teams will be receiving thousands of emails a day.
So, I received the parcel yesterday. The outer box was large, the packaging consisted of 5 pieces of brown paper, the inner box containing the guitar was not supported properly in the outer box. The outer box was bashed a little - there was no "HANDLE WITH CARE" stickers on the outer box which would indicate to the courier that the item was fragile.
So, I opened the inner box, the polystyrene which held the neck was broken, the little pieces of polystyrene at the bottom of the box were not secured in the box but loose. I am not asking for the padding that a case would provide, but this needs to be reconsidered.
The guitar was inside a bubble-wrap envelope which protected the guitar, paper around the strings and a small piece of polystyrene protecting the switch. The guitar was well protected, but with the broken polystyrene on the neck holder I needed to confirm there was no damage. Luckily there was none.
Now, the review...
The bridge was high, the string action was 2 to 3 mm higher than it should have been, but that was easily resolved - there was a hex-key for the truss-rod, but a small screwdriver to adjust the bridge would have been nice.
The strings on the guitar were good, I suspect 9's. They were loose, but again that was fine. After resetting the bridge height and retuning the guitar was setup. The tuners were tight, someone else might describe them as grinding. If after 6 months or so they need to be replaced then I shall.
The nut is plastic, it is well cut and nice, that will easily be swapped when the time comes.
The guitar is light, when compared with my Epiphone LP, it feels very light. I like it. the pickups are excellent, the neck is brighter than the bridge, the mixture of both gives the best tone.
The volume and tome pots are smooth, no crunching at all which is nice. It would be good if there was a push-pull split selector - maybe for the next version of the guitar.
One thing which I really do not like is this guitar is the through-body holes. If they holes were straight and not at an angle - as it is - it would have been better aesthetically, so much so that I almost did not purchase it. The black high gloss body is phenomenal and the gold hardware is beautiful. It would be good if this model was available in other colours with different colours of hardware as an option.
Beautiful guitar, well worth the money.
Very Nice
I'm loving my TE-40. Nice sounds and looks great! Great guitar.
Very nice guitar
I use guitar to record in my home studio.
The guitar has a very good sound.

My favorite to play so far
Five Harley Benton guitars in my collection and this is the one I play most. I spent a lot of hours improving the fret sprout issue. It was easy to convert to the HB roller trees. I don't have a Fender Telecaster to compare it to but I enjoy this guitar as much as I enjoy my '92 Strat Plus Deluxe. That's saying something. I can take the TE-40 out and not have to worry about it. When I used to take the Strat out I was nervous all of the time. (Dings, scratches....theft) That's just the math of it. Again....I LOVE to play it.
No Complaints - Great out of the Box
Buying a guitar without seeing it can be scary. Not so in this case. Impeccable workmanship, construction, finish, attention to detail, setup and comfortable design are a winning formula. Get one!
Great guitar for the price.
Sounds good, feels good, looks good. For the price you pay, its way better than any other inexpensive guitar on the market.
Buy it
Great guitar. Fit and finish is fantastic for the price. Frets were level and smooth. No sharp ends. Took a quick polish and they were ready to go. Slight truss rod adjustment and lower the action and it is perfect. Pick ups are just ok, tuners are just ok but for the price, BUY IT. I swapped the pickups with some hot PAF's and this thing sounds great, plays great and looks great. No regrets.
Shipped to U.S. and delivered to my home in 4 days! Could not believe it. This is my 4th Harley Benton. All are fantastic platforms to have an amazing guitar with a little bit of tweaking. You're not paying for a $1500 guitar, don't expect to get one.
Nice overall Intermediate plus guitar
This guitar was well set up, The roasted Maple neck superb, sound is Playable to even be able to gig.
I did change the Tuning pegs and strings to locking set
I will change the Pickups for my style of Music, However , this guitar with my add ones cost a fraction of Name brands that are over priced.
Cons is That Time frame for getting order to US.
A Beautful Looking Guitar!
Arrived very quickly. The guitar looks beautiful and played very well right out of the box aside from a standard tuning up. Great build qualty and a nice smooth neck. I can't say anything bad about it especially for the price. Amazing!
harley benton te-40 tbk deluxe series guitar
I have been playing music for a along time and i think this guitar is well worth the money. Thank you. It came properly and fast very good job.
Great bugdet/mod platform
Perchased to use as a mod platform for pickup tests ect, but after a good setup and some small amount of fretwork (end/leveling/polish) and a good fingerboard oiling & buff id have no problem taking this out to any gig as a main guitar, super
Value for money for sure
I can't believe HB can make a guitar this quality at this price. First off it looks badass! If this was my first guitar I would been in heaven.
Use: Right now for some basic reading but I can't wait to jam with this in a band setting.
Pros: Price/value looks and great playability
Cons: Frets need to be polished ( a bit raw initially) but otherwise great.
Top for the price
Really good guitar for the cost, and a excellent platform for mods.
Pros:
- Wired to be splittable (change the pots).
- Really cool design and shape (belly cut, etc)
Cons:
Tuners feel cheap, and one of them doesn't work 100%.
Nice Guitar tho
Good guitar for the buck
Gorgeous and Great
Its a wonderfully built and GORGEOUS guitar, period. I've already recorded with it and love playing it. I may change the tuners, but they do work fine as is. Even if you bothered to spend some money on simple upgrades you will still end up with an absolutely stunning, standout guitar for 20% of what it would cost to find a gem like this elsewhere, if you even could, And out of the box it sounds like butter. That means smooth and tasty. I am very happy to own this guitar.
