Harley Benton Mighty-5TH Reviews
Great for cleans or vintage dirty
Nice tube which has that vintage warm sound with smooth middle
I love this thing
I bought this as a practice amp, but it could legit do small gigs. I might have to give in to temptation and get the bigger brother.
Simple but awesome
I ordered this amp as a project to see how good a sound I could get of a very inexpensive amp. I ran my tele through it and into a custom built Celestion Ten-30 cabinet. Then, I turned it on and started to play. The sound was OK, but lacked in clarity and sounded hollow and weak. It also made considerable crackling noises when turning the knobs. But it was above my low expectations.
But Alas! I decided that my project did not finish here. I had ordered an Engl ECC83 FQ and a Sovtek EL84. Unscrewing the bottom screws I then replaced what was a Sovtek ECC83 and a Ruby EL84 and now we are talking.
The crackling noises diappeared and the sound is better than I deared dream of: Full, deep, rich, crisp and well defined in the cleans. A creature on it's own when overdriven. It will go loud.
Pros:
-Cheap, still sturdy
-Potential for golden sound
-Portable
-Loud
-Simple and easy to use and mod
Cons:
-Crackling noises before changing tubes
-No mid EQ, no separate gain and volume, no reverb
Neutral:
-Stock sound
I think replacing the tubes are mandatory; afterwards, it's a steal.
A perfect upgrade!
After 15 years with the same Marshall MG30, I wanted to upgrade. Watched loads of videos on Youtube after coming across this item and seemed pretty good. My budget is pretty low so couldn't afford any big name brand but this works wonders plugged into the HB 2x12 Vertical Cab. Having the option to toggle the watts is handy, especially in a small house with little children next door not wanting to listen to poor attempts at Meshuggah...
Works really well with my TC Electronics Fangs Distortion and Hall of Fame 2 and if I turned everything up to 10, I bet this baby could take it with ease.
I've never had a tube amp before but thie does run a little hot after a fair bit of use but this maybe normal for a tube amp. I say hot, more upper levels of warm.
All in all, if you're on a budget and have a few pedals to go along with this. Buy.
Great Practice Amp!
I love this thing!
I was searching for a great valve practice amp and then this comes out. i've been using this amp for quite some time and i'm totally satisfied. It's great for what it cost. I strongly advise you to buy also the matching cabinet because the boundle of the head and the cabinet produce a great sound.
Pro
-) Real valve sound
-) it's possible to switch the power from 0.1W to 1W to 5W
-) very good handling of pedals
-) portable
-) good looking
Cons
-) an incomplete eq (only bass and treble) not a big problem imho
-) i have preferred to have a bright control since sometimes i feel that the amp lacks of clarity (even with single coils) but it's just a personal opinion.
Conclusion
if you are sick of poor practice amp with noisy distortion and cheap effects this is the solution. Please be aware that this thing has only a clean channel so all the effects are not included. You have to plug inside your own effects.
Cheers
Fantastic
I bought this seeing only a couple of reviews... This is a great little tube amp fantastic sounds and great as a pedal platform.
Nice little amp but eq is a bit lacking
I intended this head for home use with a 1x12 cab.
I only used it set clean, didn't care for the singular tube distorted tones.
I feel the head is a good pedal platform, but it's a bit lacking in the eq department. With harley benton 1x12 V30 cab, I wasn't able to dial in enough high frequencies even with highs set to max. There was also a lot of low mids that made it sound a bit boxy and couldn't be dialled out. With Palmer 1x12 cab that has naturally a lot of high frequency content, it was much better, but still a bit too middy with les paul.
I think this head is very good for the price, if you have a cabinet that plays well with it and has enough highs. I also think it takes ST type guitars better than LP or SG.
In the end I decided to return the amp. If the eq was more effective I would have kept it.
Great
A great amp has great clean tone with simple features perfect for people that like to have a simple rig
Pros: sounds great especially if it combines a Harley Benton cab with vintage g's
(My opinion) it's got simple features none of this blending stuff
Fantastic price
Cons: theres no fx loop but you can go directly into your pedals and still get a great sound
Very reasonable price for valve head
For that kind of price there is nothing to complain.
It has only just three knobs but they are doing the job just fine and it isn't really hard to dial in nice sounds out of it.
Very nice, not artificially sounding overdrive after 12'o clock on a volume depending on a pickups.
Well built and dimensions are very compact.
5 watt may not seem like a lot but actually it is very very loud so i usually set it to 0.1 watt in my bedroom.
If you don't like sound of cheap combos and you like valve tone it is definitely something to think about.
It would be very nice to see something with more features from Harley Benton since cheap(full) valve amps with that kind of quality is something you don't see.
Worth every penny for a tube head.
It has lovely clean sounds when I put it on 0.5 watt setting and put it through a 1x12 celestion 10/20 speaker. It has lovely natural overdrive sound to it without switching on a artec overdrive pedal.
