Harley Benton PB-50 FR Vintage Series 5-stars Reviews
How is it even possible?
When I was looking for a bass in music stores, every bass under 200 euros they handed me sounded and played like crap.
And still, this one is almost half the price and sounds at least as good as a mexican fender!?!?!?!?
It's impressive. It also came out of the box with perfect intonation and action. And the red polish looks gorgeous!
Simple, cheap and wonderful
These are the best bass you can buy under £200 imho and one of the best under £400. heartily recommend it.
The neck is chunky but very comfortable to play.
It is weighty but feels really solid.
Looks great and sounds great.
I swapped the pickup for a Seymour Duncan but ended up putting the original back in as I preferred it!
Tuners work well.
This bass is a great starter bass, a good bass for an intermediate player and will gig perfectly well, it can do it all.
I have more expensive basses that are better but pound for pound, this thing is unbeatable.
There is very little in the way of versatility or features, but it does what it does perfectly.
Cheap and cheerful!
I've owned this bass a few days now and have to say that I'm very impressed considering it was so cheap with delivery.
Out of the box, it needed a tune up, bridge adjusting and a minor tweak to the neck and it was ready to go.
It's the most basic bass I've ever bought but it sounds great through my mixer with headphones or my Markbass rig.
Only minor faults are that the fret ends feel a little unfinished. The hardware seems fine. Control cavity is neat and tidy. I find the neck profile very comfortable.
I really do recommend this bass if you're looking for a decent budget model. It even comes with a pick, lead, thumb rest and Allen keys! I bought a chrome thumb rest for mine to match the hardware.
For £107 you can't go wrong!
Unbelievable value for money!
I bought my 50s PB a couple of months ago. The reviews I had read were. All raving about this bass, so I put my money where my mouth is. The bass came, very well packaged, and all I had to do was time it up, and raise the A string as it was a bit buzzy. Plugging in gave a lovely grunt.that suits me perfectly. Finish and build quality cannot be faulted, I would be delighted if I had paid more than twice the price for this bass. Can't wait to get it out and big it once lock down is finished. Can't recommend highly enough.
At least one friend has bought one on my recommendation already!
An absolute beast on a budget
First bass I ever bought, and couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's even scary how good it is for that price.
Had a bit of a problem with adjusting action, since the pickup on my bass was pretty high, so I couldn't lower the strings as much as i'd like, because then they would hit the magnets on the pickup. But then I just lowered the pickup and everything was fine.
Tuners are not very consistent but they keep the guitar in tune really well.
No regrets buying this.
Watched many Youtube reviews about Harley Benton guitars so on that basis i thought ,lets try one.As im a bass player in a band and have been for 8 years now it was time to change guitars.I was playing a Yamaha TRBX 304.
Well, this PB 50 was a good investment, plays well, sounds well, feels well, all i had to do was tune it.The quality and finish is top notch and stays in tune.Have gigged with it numerous times now and no problem,in fact ive sold my Yamaha and the Harley Benton PB50 is my main tool. The clarity of the pick up is great and simple volume and tone controls still give a variety of tones, for me anyway.
So to sum up,good value for money in terms of quality and playability.I am planning on buying a six string electric Harley Benton and another bass from the Harley Benton range.
Amazing quality for this price !!
This bass is as simple as it gets. The single volume and tone knob work so smooth and the tone from this bass is amazing. From deep lows right up to zinging highs, it’s all there. The finishing on the neck is superb, no sharp frets and set up nice and low straight out of the box. The finish on the body is flawless. The Roswell single coil pickup is by far the loudest punchiest pickup I’ve heard, and I own everything from Warwick to Fender and more. For anyone wanting a vintage looking classic bass this is brilliant. The only thing you might notice, is the neck is very chunky and the bass is quite heavy. These are not negative points, just something to be aware of. I have given 5 stars because for around €100 you get a fantastic bass with an amazing fit, finish and a very loud pickup. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting a simple bass with an amazing sound and built like a tank.
Ridiculous Price For An Instrument
Can't beat this instrument for the price. But some good flatwounds on and enjoy. Only thing I don't like is the scratchplate. I just took mine off
Another satisfied HB PB-50 owner!
I bought this bass 2 months ago after reading all the fuzz about it, and it delivers!
Pros:
- The neck: In my opinion the biggest asset of this bass. The chunky (baseball!) neck is a joy to play, no fretting issues at all.
- No need to set up or replace anything, even the strings: I just tuned it and was ready to go
- Look, the fiesta red colour is very nice, hopefully it will age well
- Sound. The Roswell pick-up works perfect for home practice and small gigs.
- Price! 109 euros this is amazing.
Cons:
Some minor issues here and there: a pickguard screw was loose, the pickguard and hardware look cheap (from close only), the paint job on the side of the neck for the dots marking is not immaculate and the tuners probably won't last forever but they do work, so no hurry for an upgrade.
I recommend this PB50 Harley Benton bass to all players, not only beginners.
Amazing for the price
This is the first bass i own, compared to some more expensive ones I've tried, i see no difference, it sounds great i really love that roswell pickup. It feels like a great, solid and well built, instrument, the only thing that might looks"cheap" about it is the pickguard, which again is just a nitpick, other than that, for it's price, it's simply outstanding.
expected nothing at all...
... got the best value bass on the market. period. The finish is near flawless, in a beautiful fiesta red. the roswell pickups are truly special, seriously. i did not expect such an enormous sound from such a cheap bass.
The neck is a nice chunky p bass, fairly typical, with a matt finish. there were no bad frets, no raised frets, no unfinished fret ends. equally on a par with much more expensive basses i have.
i bought this bass out of curiosity, to see how good a bass can be for so little money. it was my first harley benton. I really do not think it will be my last. and that pickup? just amazing.
now all i need is a lake placid blue copy...
Nice bass!
I wanted to try one of these but I was not a fan of the colours available.
Of course, the most important things are how the guitar plays and the sound.
I had no doubts about the sound and quality of the guitar, this is one guitar that everybody seems to love, it is so simple that there is not much to go wrong.
I heard that a red one was coming so I placed a pre-order for this.
It looks lovely in red and as there are no pictures yet I can tell you that it comes with a white pick guard, I would have preferred black but the more I look at it the more I think the white really suits it.
Other than a quick set up, the guitar is as it comes and I plan no changes at this stage, I like it how it is, it's an amazing bass for the price, well actually it's just a really nice bass guitar!
