Harley Benton RG-Junior BK Rock Series Reviews
Harley Benton RG-Junior BK Rock Series
Great first instrument for 8 years kid. Need little set up and service but good price/value ratio.
Good guitar
Good guitar for beginner guitarists.
I took it for playing at home, it seems to me that this is an ideal option to learn how to play the guitar given the low cost and very good and clear sound.
Excellent assembly, no chips and scratches.
Good color and appearance. The gloss black looks pretty good.
Convenient shape, the guitar is comfortable to hold and it is made of nice material.
Sounds good considering the cost of the guitar. With such a system, a heavy sound is very good.
Two keys for an anchor and strings were included, which is very convenient. Also, the strings themselves were very good.
Of the minuses, a slightly non-standard system to which you need to get used to, but after some time everything becomes quite easy. The frets were also a little scratched, but this can be easily fixed just by slightly honing them, which I did.
I’ll also try to rebuild the guitar into an e-standard, but for this you will need thicker strings 11-49 and then I think everything will be even simpler, but it is better to be careful with this.
In general, I liked the guitar and I experienced only positive emotions while playing it.
Exceptional product for the money !
I have a seven year old son. He wanted an electric guitar and i was afraid he will brake some of my gibsons ( too heavy for a small kid ) . Then we looked some reviews of short scale guitars and decided to go with Harley Benton. It arrived in perfect condition and feels amazingly in the hands. Don’t be fooled by the low price, it’s the perfect temporary guitar for small kids. Low action, easy to play, good tuners for the price. I don’t see why smb. will buy the more expensive short scale guitars. The kid is loving it, and started using the looper pedal and composing his own sounds :) Very, very good choice of ours :)
For those looking for a cheap gift...
...Look better.
I kind of regret the purchase, knowing full well this is a cheap way to get started.
Pros:
Cheap. Very good for a beginner.
Cons:
Loose tuning, very temperature sensitive.
Make sure the aforementioned beginner is not talented, or they'll outgrow this guitar very quickly.
Hard to believe
This product is an absolute steal. For 75 euros you get an actual guitar (not a toy) . As it came it was very playable, setup was fine, neck is straight, string action was a bit high out of the box but certainly playable and easy to fix.
I bought this as a first guitar for my 6 year old son to have a go.
It can take standard tuning just fine, I did put some heavier strings on it to accommodate (10-52).
I invested some more time and money into upgrading it:
* Some fret work : slight leveling, frets were a bit sharp at the side of the neck, I sanded the fret ends, rounded the edges and polished the frets with a Micro-Mesh stick.
* Put a tusq nut and matching black saddles on it.
* Put some inexpensive black locking tuners on it.
* Upgraded to black roller string trees.
* Changed the strap buttons, jack plates and screws to black ones.
Now this turned into an awesome playing guitar for next to nothing!
Without the upgrades this guitar is well worth the money, if you want a great playing small scale guitar go for some upgrades as well!
Good guitar for beginners
I acquired this guitar set for my 5 years old.
The sound is good for the price, nice frets and finishes.
As a part of the set, together with the 20w amplifier, it is a great deal
A lucky find
After looking online for what seemed like far too long, I came across this item for my big 6-year old. It seemed to fit the bill across all the desirable features for a child who?s been talking about starting a rock band with his buddies "when we get to be teenagers" for a couple of years now.
Straight to the point:
- Looks: "Bad ass." At least as damn good looking in reality as it is in the glossy photos online. Just watch the pointy head, which kids could easily forget about when they?re moving around the room, whether quietly or in hot rhythm.
- Features: more than one could hope for for a child. Most importantly, the build is super solid. Don?t forget to remove the plastic that covers the pick guard. To complete the job, pop the two control knobs with your fingers if they?re strong, or with two picks from both sides at once slipped through the space between the knobs and the body, pulling gently but steadily straight up (so as not to have your knob fly over the other side of the room). That way you can remove any excess plastic that might hinder the free movement of the knob. I also had to sand a small pointy plastic bit at the base of the pick-up toggle switch. Took all of 30 seconds.
- Sound: out of the box the tuning needed work. I replaced the strings with Ernie Balls, did some work on the bridge to improve the action, and a bit more fiddling around. I hadn?t changed strings since I was a teenager, so that brought back good memories. For the rest, I had to learn on the fly. I must say that I really enjoyed working on the boy?s guitar while he was sleeping, One of those deep-seated pleasures of being a dad I guess.
Summary: If you are willing to be hands on, I certainly recommend this guitar to any parent who has a budding rock-oriented musician, from a big 5 or 6-year old up.
There is an excellent vid on YT by an entertaining German vlogger and guitar teacher, where he covers the details of the guitar pretty thoroughly and honestly.
Best for the purpose
I give it 5 stars because: Unbeatable price, very well made, good quality for first electric guitar, over all very good sound.
Cons, a little bit higher strings but it's easy to adjust.
Excellent
Finish: Excellent. Really impressed. Really hoped to see availability in other colors...
Neck: Fast, well shaped for small hands and stable
Action: Came with a little higher action than normal but was able to lower it with no buzz whatsoever
Strings: Came with 10s. Replaced with 11s and tuned to standart E with perfect results.
Tuners: A bit stiff under tension (considering that this is for a kid) but they hold the tune quite well
Sound: Thick and nice! Clean and high gain very impressive considering the cost of this guitar! Can hit some awesome metal tones too....
Weight: Just right for a kid (or just a lazy player on a couch....)
Electronics: Seem to do the job just fine and look durable. pickups output enough for any style.
Conclusion: 75 bucks + 10 Bucks for a good set of 11s =85. At this price you get an instrument that plays and tunes better than ANY short scale I have ever seen.
I don't know how they did it but they did.
Highly recommended.
Good start for a kid
I've bought this guitar for my son who is 5 years old now.
It's fits into his hands, it's not that he heavy so he can stand up with it.
Electronics are ok for the price, the neck is OK as well, easy to learn and play on it, it is not holds tuning well, but this ok nothing serious, I've setup the guitar for my son's needs.
Finnish is perfect.
Hard to beat for the price
Bought this little ditty for my son (7) though the 3-year old seems more interested in it. Really not bad for the price, though ours needed some adjustments. For example, a string change did wonders. Next on the board are some new tuners (as soon as there is some extra cash) as the stock ones don't hold their tune very well. Playing it with the AmpliTube Amp, as well as a Fender Mustang I V2. As could be expected for the price, the pickups pale in comparison to the stock ones on my Vintage modified Strat (Squier).
This is a short-scale guitar ideal for small, tiny hands or little kids. With some proper adjustments, it is an excellent guitar for beginners, especially if you don't want to invest too much. It is robust enough that when the first child is done with it, the other can pick it up in a few years (and perhaps benefit from nicer parts discarded from other guitar-projects!).
Good one for a great price!
My sons loved it and it's a perfect entrylevel guitar for kids, played good right out of the box.
Thew price is really great and you get quite much for a small amount of $$$ :)
Feel good Guitar.
It has the feel of being comfortably wrapped around you, it like mould with your body. It's got the rock sound. It Rocks. Good sturdy quality, I love it. The price......its a give-away. And its good. Go for it.
