Harley Benton RG-Junior BK Rock Series 5-stars Reviews
Price/peformance on the road, by your office desk, by your bed
First of all, I have been using this guitar for almost five months. I have to travel a lot, and I also wanted to keep a small guitar next to my desk so I can fiddle in between meetings and calls. It was so cheap that I decided to give it a go; worst case, I would just give it away to a beginner. But after I change the strings with thicker gauges and set the intonation, it becomes a beast; I am also planning to use this for the real gigs since the tone is not that bad, and I am already using pedals. I recommend this guitar to particularly those who know how to do setups on their own guitars (since paying for a setup won't be worth it) or anyone who seeks a small and price/performance guitar either for fiddling or to encourage an enthusiastic youngling (yeah this guitar looks cool!).
Very Good for my 7ys old
I bought it for my 7ys old son and I'm very happy. It is not a PRS but is
is exceptional value, plays very well. I've put a set of 11/52 strings and it tuned to standard E just fine.
Good :)
It’s a great cheap and beginner guitar!!
Excellent first electric when your child wants to move on from the acoustic.
Good quality first electric short scale for those tiny fingers! Good build quality and your child will appreciate the good looks of the guitar and decent sound. Mum or Dad may even pick it up occasionally! Don't forget, this little gem, (no pun intended), needs a setup with string action etc. Njoy!
Perfect for Smaller Hands
Got this to help my daughter (7) learn guitar. Shes doing great, its a perfect size for her
Wow!
I ordered this for my 10 year old who has recently started showing an interest in playing the guitar. To be honest I wasn't expecting much as the price seemed so cheap. But. . . Wow.
Firstly the guitar looks amazing. The paintwork is flawless all the hardware is gleaming and the neck is probably the best neck I've seen compared to all the other guitars I've owned. The fretwork is amazing, it almost looks too perfect.
Even though Harley Benton says to tune to an A instead of E I tuned it to an E to give it a go and it did slip out of tune every so often mainly just the high E sting.
I changed the strings to .11's and now this thing is perfect! I definitely recommend changing to 11 gauge strings if you want to tune to standard E tuning.
Sounds great acoustically and sounds really nice plugged in too so no complaints there
It's the perfect size for a 10 year old and it's super lightweight. Really only positives to say about this guitar! Now I want a Harley Benton for myself.
I was originally planning on getting the ibanez 3/4 guitar but glad I got this instead!
And my kid loves it which Is the main thing! Really impressed with this guitar!
WOW!!!
Much, much better than I ever expected for the money. I was totally surprised by everything about this little guitar. Works so well with me sitting in a wheelchair. I can play again with comfort. Back in the land of the living not just existing.
Great value for money
I thought this would be a toy but it's a really nice guitar. No weird noises, nice small size, perfect for bedroom practice. I'm genuinely impressed, will be looking at harley benton guitars in the future for sure.
Brilliant value
This little guitar is amazing value - has been perfect for my son to learn on. I set it up with 11s to maintain normal string tension tuned to e and its been superb.
Great guitar for the budding guitarist!
I bought this for my son's 7th birthday. All around great little rig. I had to take apart the jack socket and fix an intermittent connection, but honestly for the price, this was no Biggie. Solid construction and feels nice and tight to play. The smaller size allows my son to play comfortably.
Surprised!
I didn't expect it that good, solid construction with flawless finish and excellent sound. I just put a new set of 11's to keep the standard tuning and give it to my 6 years boy.
Amasing guitar
Unexpectedly it is an amazing guitar for this price
Hard to believe
This product is an absolute steal. For 75 euros you get an actual guitar (not a toy) . As it came it was very playable, setup was fine, neck is straight, string action was a bit high out of the box but certainly playable and easy to fix.
I bought this as a first guitar for my 6 year old son to have a go.
It can take standard tuning just fine, I did put some heavier strings on it to accommodate (10-52).
I invested some more time and money into upgrading it:
* Some fret work : slight leveling, frets were a bit sharp at the side of the neck, I sanded the fret ends, rounded the edges and polished the frets with a Micro-Mesh stick.
* Put a tusq nut and matching black saddles on it.
* Put some inexpensive black locking tuners on it.
* Upgraded to black roller string trees.
* Changed the strap buttons, jack plates and screws to black ones.
Now this turned into an awesome playing guitar for next to nothing!
Without the upgrades this guitar is well worth the money, if you want a great playing small scale guitar go for some upgrades as well!
A lucky find
After looking online for what seemed like far too long, I came across this item for my big 6-year old. It seemed to fit the bill across all the desirable features for a child who?s been talking about starting a rock band with his buddies "when we get to be teenagers" for a couple of years now.
Straight to the point:
- Looks: "Bad ass." At least as damn good looking in reality as it is in the glossy photos online. Just watch the pointy head, which kids could easily forget about when they?re moving around the room, whether quietly or in hot rhythm.
- Features: more than one could hope for for a child. Most importantly, the build is super solid. Don?t forget to remove the plastic that covers the pick guard. To complete the job, pop the two control knobs with your fingers if they?re strong, or with two picks from both sides at once slipped through the space between the knobs and the body, pulling gently but steadily straight up (so as not to have your knob fly over the other side of the room). That way you can remove any excess plastic that might hinder the free movement of the knob. I also had to sand a small pointy plastic bit at the base of the pick-up toggle switch. Took all of 30 seconds.
- Sound: out of the box the tuning needed work. I replaced the strings with Ernie Balls, did some work on the bridge to improve the action, and a bit more fiddling around. I hadn?t changed strings since I was a teenager, so that brought back good memories. For the rest, I had to learn on the fly. I must say that I really enjoyed working on the boy?s guitar while he was sleeping, One of those deep-seated pleasures of being a dad I guess.
Summary: If you are willing to be hands on, I certainly recommend this guitar to any parent who has a budding rock-oriented musician, from a big 5 or 6-year old up.
There is an excellent vid on YT by an entertaining German vlogger and guitar teacher, where he covers the details of the guitar pretty thoroughly and honestly.
Best for the purpose
I give it 5 stars because: Unbeatable price, very well made, good quality for first electric guitar, over all very good sound.
Cons, a little bit higher strings but it's easy to adjust.
Excellent
Finish: Excellent. Really impressed. Really hoped to see availability in other colors...
Neck: Fast, well shaped for small hands and stable
Action: Came with a little higher action than normal but was able to lower it with no buzz whatsoever
Strings: Came with 10s. Replaced with 11s and tuned to standart E with perfect results.
Tuners: A bit stiff under tension (considering that this is for a kid) but they hold the tune quite well
Sound: Thick and nice! Clean and high gain very impressive considering the cost of this guitar! Can hit some awesome metal tones too....
Weight: Just right for a kid (or just a lazy player on a couch....)
Electronics: Seem to do the job just fine and look durable. pickups output enough for any style.
Conclusion: 75 bucks + 10 Bucks for a good set of 11s =85. At this price you get an instrument that plays and tunes better than ANY short scale I have ever seen.
I don't know how they did it but they did.
Highly recommended.
Good start for a kid
I've bought this guitar for my son who is 5 years old now.
It's fits into his hands, it's not that he heavy so he can stand up with it.
Electronics are ok for the price, the neck is OK as well, easy to learn and play on it, it is not holds tuning well, but this ok nothing serious, I've setup the guitar for my son's needs.
Finnish is perfect.
Good one for a great price!
My sons loved it and it's a perfect entrylevel guitar for kids, played good right out of the box.
Thew price is really great and you get quite much for a small amount of $$$ :)
Feel good Guitar.
It has the feel of being comfortably wrapped around you, it like mould with your body. It's got the rock sound. It Rocks. Good sturdy quality, I love it. The price......its a give-away. And its good. Go for it.
