Good Strat-a-like for the money

It's impossible to review a Harley Benton guitar with reflecting on the price. I've owned many ST style guitars over the last few years, and there is no comparison for the price.

In absolute terms you are not getting the same build quality, tones or performance as you would from the big player on which this is based. But you might pay 4-10 times the price for an entry into that world.

I'm not a modder or guitar tech, but if I was, I would probably change the tuners (they're only ok) and the string trees, possibly the nut. But for me, a home player, with no pressure or expectation, these are things that can wait.

So, bearing that in mind, and never forgetting the cost and 3 year warranty you really can't go wrong.

Minor niggle-the frets protrude slightly and need to be filed. The pickups are very prone to buzz/hiss so I would say the cavities need shielding. The buzz stops when you are touching the strings so it seems likely to be a shielding thing. It's manageable with one of my amps, but quite bad with the other.

I love this guitar

I'm too broke and too much of a beginner to justify buying a genuine fender strat and I really wanted one with a lacquered maple fretboard. While it's not as shiny of a finish on the neck as a fender, it's there and it's good. The sound of the pick ups is very good too, I'm no expert and don't have a fender to compare it to but it's satisfactory for me, gives me a close enough tone to what I'd expect a strat to sound like. Only complaint would be the cheaper vol and tone knobs and the pickguard, it seems like the slot for the 5 way switch wasn't cut smoothly but that's all very minor. Doesn't affect anything important and is easily replaced. But it's not even bad enough that I will. Overall this was a great guitar and I'm very glad I bought it.

Very happy

I'm an enthusiastic amateur when it comes to playing.

This guitar caught my eye as it seemed good value.

I am well pleased with my prize, looked fine straight from the box, as of this moment I have made no adjustments, neck is nice & straight, action is just fine & it holds tune . I will lube the nut when it needs strings.

The overall finish is very good, all the knobs & switch gear do what you expect, the frets are well finished & ther fretboard has a rolled egde, nice !

Don't be fooled by the price, I think this guitar punches well above it's weight.

No it's not a Strat, but it's nothing like the price either.

As a first electric or for an improver it's a nice piece of kit & I'm well pleased with mine.
