Harley Benton TE-20MN BM Standard Series Reviews
Very nice guitar. Buy one.
I'm a bass player, but I need a guitar for practising and recording. This is great for that. Everything works as it should and it sounds great. Neck smooth and comfortable. Body a nice weight - solid enough but not too heavy. It played really well straight out of the box and just needed the action lowering for my playing. The only thing wrong with it as far as I can see is the grub screws on the bridge - far too long, so it hurts your hand when playing there - I have to rest my palm behind the bridge to play there. Feels weird at first, but I'm getting used to it.
It would b 5 stars but for the screws on the bridge. But I can't see anyone producing a better tele at this price.
Excellent value for money!
It's amazing how far budget guitars have come nowadays. Everything is if really good fit and finish, no complaints. Pickups aren't bad at all, perhaps that would be the only thing you may need to upgrade in the future but everything else is really good. Go on buy one, you won't regret it!
Excellent
Just had to buy one after reading so many positive reviews on the internet.
I had to see if they were all true, so I bought the basic model.
Arrived within 1 week of ordering -Amazing
Looks fantastic, I love the metallic blue finish on it.
Now, I’m not an expert on single coils, only ever played hum buckets, but the ‘twang’ of the bridge pickup sounds just what I wanted.
So far, only thing that I have spotted that I need to do, is lift the pickups on the top end a fraction, the E and B strings are a tad quiet for me, even for me, that will be easy.
Construction looks great, and finished well, a beautifully smooth neck. The bridge adjustment screws are a little sharp in places, but again, an easy fix, and never having owned a ‘Fender style’ guitar, A slight adjustment to my playing avoids ant contact with my hand.
I can’t get over that I paid £87 for a beautiful looking ‘Tele’, a gig bag, that is really good too, and delivery from Germany!
I don’t need one, but I’m looking now at their 335 style guitar.
Brilliant!
Addition: Took it to practise, the guys in the band couldn’t believe what I’d paid for it. The drummer is ordering one,
Slick Tele under â¬80? Madness!
I was not expecting such quality for this price. You can get some cheap knock offs for this price, some "1-year-durable" strats etc., yet here you have an instrument which is by far better than one of my previous Korean made strat.
The switch is bit loose, but come on - this is really the only thing I could think of, when it comes to cons of this tele. Pickups do create the classic Tele sound, weight is great, you can feel the centre as it should be.
Also it has the classic Tele bridge, which does not look cheap. And the best part - finish. Photos do not tell the whole story, the sparkling blue is pretty neat and looks well altogether.
You won't get a better chance under €100
Go on buy it its worth it
Great guitar for less than £70.out of box it needed action adjusted n re tune but after that it sounds good.i bought this axe with intention of upgrading all hardware.but was surprised how good it was out of box,as a beginner guitarist this is great value n I can't really fault harley benton,I'm gonna upgrade stuff on mine but the body n neck is good.for a good player pick ups/sounds a bit muddy.but with a upgrade this could make a quality axe
CAN'T FIND A BETTER DEAL FOR THE MONEY
Nice guitar and shipping was very fast to Canada. Well packed and arrived undamaged.
Thanks
Tele vibe for very little money
Perfect finish, but required a setup before beeing playable. Fretboard edges was rolled slightly, but not on the complete length of the neck. Finished that of course and this one was really nice. Acousticly very alive and resonant, and plugged in the pickups were able to give some Telecaster-like tones. Bridge pickup beeing the best of the two while the neck one sounded nice clean but mudded up as gain was applied. Replaced tuners with lockers, saddles with brass, pups with A5 and added Grapthech string trees. Holds tune like a monster and sounds killer but unfortunately the neck is a bit chunky for me and the frets too small. Will keep it in my collection though.
A good guitar for your money!!!
Excellent budget telecaster. I especially liked the color. For this money, a very good guitar
Value for money
Well made and punching above its weight. Definitely better than the cheapest squires. Hardware is OK for what you pay and holds tuning decently. Came setup pretty well with 9's although the action was high for my taste. The pickups are bad but the build quality in general was surprisingly good. Not a single issue with frets. For a guitar below the 100 euro mark, I am very satisfied.
I looooove my tele!
I've bought this guitar because I adore the looks and sound of a telecaster.
I've owned an Epiphone SG (made in 2006) before. It was much more expensive than HB TE20. However, this tele is made much better. Epiphone SG had so many flaws, but I don't think this is the place I need to nag about it.
What I loved about this guitar:
1. This guitar came set up so well, that I don't even know what to add. The frets are polished, fret ends are smooth (we will see what's going to happen after our Northern winter). Even stock strings aren't terrible.
2. The body is well made, no "pickholders" like original Fenders have between the neck pocket and neck. All the plates and knobs feel good, the bridge is reliable and doesn't give any problems.
3. It stays in tune well. I didn't have any problems with tuning it up, which was a big surprise. Most people say that these 89 euro guitars have bad tuners, but honestly, I didn't experience any problems with it. Maybe I'm just lucky?
4. The neck. Oh God, I love this neck! It is chunky and awesome. It is super smooth and not sticky! It feels just right!!! Mind that I'm used to SG neck and jazz bass neck. Adjusting to this chunky thing wasn't a problem. With my big hands it's perfect.
What I didn't like:
1. The sound. I think it's the only point I didn't like. Although the sound met my expectations. I knew it won't have the sound I want, so I've ordered Fender Vintera 50's pickup set together with this guitar. They are 79 euros, so I'm guessing it will work. Anyway, the bridge pickup sounds so bland. It sounds incredibly boring! I couldn't get anything with the help of my amp and effects. It's just so dull. It actually sounds as if you are just playing into a mic, which is kinda strange. The neck pickup sounds quite OK. I mean it's not ideal, but it's way better than the neck pickup. You can actually get some interesting sounds out of it. In 2nd position the guitar sound quite unbalanced. Bridge pickup overpowers the neck one, so you are left with a bridge sound + a little of this dull neck sound. Again, as I said before, I was expecting it to be bad, so no surprise here.
What I have to say as a reviewer:
Because this guitar is so well made and costs so little, I was looking for "the catch" in this guitar.
1. The tiny dots on top of the fretboard aren't consistently round. Some are oval, some have a little paint sticking out. (I know it's something you won't even notice, but I was trying hard to find "the catch"!
2. The edge of the pickguard on the top isn't perfectly smooth when you trace your finger along it. There are some tiny waves and I don't think I will try to fix that.
3. The paintjob behind the bridge isn't ideal. It looks as if it has little navy spots there. I think it looks cool though. The blue colour itself is amazing though.
Summary:
I love this guitar. It is amazing. I was thinking it won't be as good as it is. Feels amazing, super well-made, stays in tune. It's a perfect guitar to start playing or just having fun with it!
The sound is not great, but I was planning to change them anyway. I got a set of Fender Vintera 50's, so if you are interested, I'll leave a review there as well. If you just want to play at home or start learning, the sound won't be a problem anyway.
I'm extremely happy with this guitar, if you have any doubts - trust me, it's a good buy. Especially for that price!
Harley Benton TE-20MN BM Standard Series
Very nice guitar for the money. Decent quality and playability
Great value first guitar
The quality of this guitar is great for its price.
It's a pretty basic instrument, but the sound is nice - much nicer than you'd expect.
Highly recommend for anyone wishing to learn electric guitar.
Simply best pound for £ traditional Tele
This guitars sound and quality are so good that they must be compared to guitars al least 3 times it’s expense to be a fair comparison.
Good for the price
Good Guitar for the price
Very good value
Great guitar and came out of the box playable.
Cannot beat the price.
Tuners are a little difficult when turning, but that can be an easy fix by replacing them.
TELE-LICIOUS...
What great buy, the TE-20MN BM is finished in Metallic Blue, it's perfectly setup with well finished frets, on a very comfortable neck. The pickups perform well and deliver some nice clean tones. I would love to see a neck Humbucker on this guitar, which would add a little more tonal variety. A superb guitar, and a must have for any guitar player, and at the price, I am looking to buy another (in red).
buy 20 of these for less than that fender american...and have great sounding music
I bought three guitars here a year ago to do some testing etc. This was the first of the three and was pleasantly surprised on how it is built and its sound. Fender look out... Blind testing gets this a win in several categories and fender in the others but guys... at 20 times the price or more.... I have no complaints at all. For this pricee you can do a lot of modding and still be way below anything Fender puts out.. hey!!!! use their pickups lol.. If you do, you will find there is not a great difference and at times the originals are equal or better.. other times Fender wins in clean...Thanks guys.
Very disappointing pickups
By now I have 4 Harley Bentons: 3 electric guitars and 1 electric bass guitar.
You can imagine, if I keep buying them, is because I think they're good value for money.
No, I definitely do not think they are amazing guitars. I've owned an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra (the first version) and none of this Harley Benton come remotely close to it. BUT if you look at the price, then the HB become a lot more attractive - I like having various different guitars with different pickups.
I also have an SX Stratocaster, with ash body, and with a good professional setup it is just amazing. Unfortunately that guitar lives in a different country, so I got this cheap tele since I was missing a purely single coil guitar at home.
Fine, for the price, you cannot go very wrong with this tele. It is an extremely good beginner guitar BUT the pickups are really really poor. The neck pickup is very dark, and both the neck and bridge are totally dull sounding. There's no brightness in the bridge pickup.
You can make it sound good with a bunch of EQ and effects, but you need to try hard. I would not recommend this for a beginner since you'd get really frustrating sound. Otherwise the build and body is extremely good for the price. I'm placing an order for replacement pickups.
Very nice, light and cheap guitar
Bought it and modified: changed nut, saddles and single coils 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Excellent guitar
I've been playing it for months now and it is as good as when it arrived. Solid build, excellent sound, beautiful design, easy to use, stays in tune, no fret buzz, no problem frets. Highly recommended for people who need a cheap, very good quality guitar.
