Harley Benton TE-90FLT VW Deluxe Series Reviews
"Beginner guitar" I wouldn't say so !
I was buying my annual set of 10 strings, when i dropped the Harley Benton TE-90FLT VW Deluxe Series in my shopping basket...
I was looking at those Harley Benton for a while du to all the positive reviews i found on the internet.
-Right out of the box the guitar looks and feel like a typical Mexican Fender worth minimum 800€.
-The electronics works and feel high end, the pickups sounds amazing.
-The mechanics works great and the bridge looks amazing.
- The neck radius is really flat wich is not personally my favorite type of neck specs, but the frets are so nice and tall with no dead spots that it makes up for it.
- The set-up of the guitar strings height was spot on, i just changed the strings for 9-46 instead of 10-46 and it's ROCKIN'
I'm afraid i might be falling into the Harley Benton spiral... and buy some more !
Amazing job guys, very appreciate the work you've put in, to produce such amazing affordable instruments...
Best Regards,
Jips
HB TE-90FLT
I've had this guitar for several weeks now and I am still mesmerized with everything this guitar has to offer at such a meager price. The only issue I had with the guitar were the tuners, which I replaced. After 40 years of playing and gigging, I realize now that you don't have to spend a small fortune to own a good guitar. Thanks Harley Benton for a great guitar!
It makes some big brand names look very expensive.
I am an ex music shop owner and still a guitar tech. Yes I own a lot of guitars including the big American brands. I have unpacked, serviced and played many guitars. In all of my time in doing this I have never taken a guitar from its box and found it more instantly playable.. Still in basic tune around Eb, this guitar just wants to be played. I t has a slim/fast neck a 350mm/14inch fingerboard radius. Two great humbuckers, with just the right power and no Asian sounds. The hardware would only need changing if it broke. It all works well. Even the volume and Tone Pot were full size 25mm. The cavities are treated for EMF interference . Build quality is great.... The Value for money is so exaggerated for what you get. If this guitar fits in your wish list... Do it. Highly Recommended
awesome
for the money cant get better feels great pick ups are surprisingly good
neck feels great id say on the chunky side which i love
Fantastic Quality
This guitar has exceeded my expectations. For me, the best parts are the neck and pickups. The neck is smooth maple and very comfortable to play. The pickups can sound great in every style of music. I have always wanted a telecaster style guitar and I am so glad I bought this one. It looks similar to a telecaster, but sound-wise, it is much more versatile. I own a lot of guitars and this is already one of my favorites!
Bridge was slightly off center but overall the guitar has been good.amazing guitar for the money.
Brilliant guitar
Let me start of with my disbelief at this guitar. Last time I held a Harley Benton was one of the old ones. Unlike fender the first models are not what you should be looking for. I will mostly be using this guitar to travel with and play at home. Everything this guitar has shown me thus far makes me believe it will be a good guitar for the road too. I would bring a spare but that is true in any case.
The quality of the guitar is excellent. I have as of yet to find any real blemishes in the finish which really surprised me as it was something I was expecting for the price and the brand. All of the hardware seems sturdy but nothing special. It holds tuning well.
At arrival I had to do two things. One is understandable while the other much less so and would it not been for everything else seemingly being on spec it would have been a real worry.
1) some strings jumped out of the string trees but was almost in tune. I just put them back and re tuned. Would have just guessed it was a shipping thing if it wasn't for almost being in tune. Weird!
2) The bridge pickup was lose. As in one of the screws was fully lose and the pickup was attached to the low e-string. The screw was there so I just attached it. Doesn't seem to have caused any scratches or other damages but I felt pretty uneasy about it.
All things considered it's a great guitar that sounds like nothing else I have. I bought it for the filtertron style pickups and was not disapointed. Very surprised of the overall quality after the quick fixes. Will get it properly set-up at some time because the guitar is worth it.
Exceptional
Just changed the strings to a lighter gauge and polished up the fret ends. Sounds amazing! Great Values. Plays awesome!
ridiculously fun
Unbelievable quality/£ ratio.
Round and sparkly sound. Thicker than single coil, brighter than humbuckers.
I can take it anywhere knowing that it is going to do a great job and I am not constantly afraid of damaging it.
The tuners have irregular resistance and they are a bit loose but they work and, surprisingly, they hold the guitar in tune the whole gig but you can put new ones and it would still be a very affordable guitar (order left-handed ones!).
I play 3-4 hours per day and I only have to tune it once at the beginning.
Nice bit of kit
Well made and the Roswell pups sounds great. With a bit of adjustment to get it playing how you want it it's a bargain
PERFECT!
I WAS BLOWN AWAY BUY THE QUALITY OF THIS GUITAR IN EVERY WAY. FIT AND FINISH WAS PERFECT. FINISH IS EXCELLENT. TUNERS GREAT. LOVE THE REVERSE HEADSTOCK!! ARRIVED PERFECT TO USA. MY FIRST HB. WON'T BE MY LAST.
Unbelievable value!!
Having watched the reviews on Youtube I decided to buy one of these Harley Benton guitars hoping that it would stack up against the rave reviews. My beautiful TE-90FLT VW Deluxe arrived yesterday so I eagerly unboxed it and plugged it in for a test drive. Well the rave reviews confirmed that Harley Benton really is a name to be respected for quality and value. The finish is perfect as to be expected from the tight quality control procedures at HB. The setup is perfect with no adjustments necessary and it was almost in tune!
I am a retired gent and mostly bedroom player and own only one other electric guitar [Godin which is amazing] and am delighted to report that the HB has such an amazing tone that it complements my Blues playing and even makes it easier because the neck is so smooth.
My likes are:
1. Gorgeous finish
2. Tone of the pickups
3. Playability
4. Comfortable shape that sits so well on my lap
5. Value for money......can't beat it
Cons:
None
So in summary, I would say to anyone who is contemplating buying this model or any other HB for that matter...........go for it....you won't be disappointed.
Great for students
An absolutely stunning guitar at an unbelievable price. Straight out of the box, it had a great action and the intonations were mostly acceptable. However, the tone knob was loose and wouldn't spin so i had to pull it off and tighten the screw. The machine heads are just OK, I'd recommend getting an upgrade down the line though. So far no other imperfections.
Overall, you still get way more than you paid for. The guitar plays beautifully and feels amazing. This is a perfect choice if you're a college student like i am.
Really good guitar for the price
This guitar sounds really fine with both pickups, specially with the bridge one. As others have said it has its own thing going on, it's a great option for someone who wants to try something new from single coils and traditional humbuckers. However the quality gets a bit in the way to have real fun.
Cons:
The frets feel like sand, it really needs work and it's a bummer if you don't have the time or are just not willing to learn how to do it.
Fret ends not well done, but passable.
Tuners don't feel good but there are no problems with tuning.
Pickups are not properly fit in place, but no problem in sound.
Pros:
Guitar sounds good, I mean not just for the price. It's not amazing though, keep your expectations in check.
Overall quality is just amazing for the price, if you don't expect a top end professional instrument, this is actually unbelievable for the price. For the bedroom guitarist, fun guaranteed.
I wanted the pickups on this model but do not like reverse head stock so swapped necks.
Also electronic scratching on pick guard not cool had to insulate. Other wise and especially considering $ turns out one of my favorites. Very spunky (do the kids say that?) P.S. Trump sucks send help!
crazy money for a quality instrument
bought as a cheap guitar to keep in a open tuning for a few songs at gigs. I wasnt expecting anything as good as i got to be honest.. feels lovely to play, came well set up with no intonation issues and sounds great. P/ups are not too hot but provide a nice tone and sound well when driving the amp(s).
Love the inverted headstockand the whole finish is top quality for a guitar way beyond this price point. only gripe at the minute is that the tuning pegs feel a little close together but ill get used to it ( may be related to the feel of the upside down headstock.
Anyway, for what i paid i got a whole lot more guitar than i expected. will be buying more Harley bentons i suspect.
Highly recommended
Absolute bargain
Pros:
Everything is very solid, switches, knobs feel sturdy,
The sound of this thing is amazing, pickups have a little less output than standart humbuckers, but it just gives you more clarity
strings go through body so the stustain is endless,
setup was great, no sharp edges on fretboard,
Cons:
Tuners that came in this guitar, didnt work very well, they were inaccurate, and hard tu turn,
but i replaced them, and its allright,
just beware, tuners are for left handed guitar cause headstock is reverse,
Overall: just buy it, you wont regret
Great guitar for the money
I would recommend this guitar to anyone. It is great deal.
Pros:
- Beautiful look
- Solid finish, almost no flaws
- Great neck
- Bridge pickup is great .
Cons:
- Crappy string trees, tuners, nut. I replaced string trees immediately with Graph Tech and I plan to replace tuners and nut as soon as possible.
- Neck pickup sounds muddy, especially with higher gain. Clean is not so bad
- Volume knob is installed too low and it is scratching the body. Knobs are very good in general, run smoothly except the above mentioned.
- Toggle switch is probably the worst that I ever seen, its shaky and feels very cheap comparing to the other components.
All in all, this is one of the best guitars for the money that you can buy. Look, finish, color, neck are top notch. With upgrades (string trees, tuners, nut, toggle switch, neck pickup) of ca 150-200 EUR you get 300-350 guitar which looks and sounds as 1000 EUR instrument.
Great Buy.
Sweet Looking Unique Tele
My second Harley Benton telecaster. I purchased this for its unique look - reverse headstock, Cabronita style pickguard, TV Jones style pickups and the translucent finish. Setup was great, straight out of the box.
Thw whole is more than the sum of parts ...eventually.
Everything looked fine .
But it wasn't
I've got 15 guitars and have been playing 35 years .....
So whats wrong ?
1.Frets aren't level in a random fashion no particular area just here and there about 8 of them . -no biggie i can do this .
2.Action very high because of the frets .This was obviously the solution by whoever tested this prior to dispatch ....I know who you are !!
3.Bridge isnt square to the pick up routing !! , once you notice it you cant un-notice it .So 4 out of 5 of the holes will have to be plugged and redrilled. Arggh!
then do a set up and it will be fine .fingers crossed
This feels like good parts thrown together and by the way whoever 'Jack' is -you have no idea about quality control !
Edit :Work done .set up done .Action now great . What is killer on this guitar is the pickups I thought low impedance would mean weak .Nope..brilliant is what they are . I've found the Roswell manufacturer :-$50 for each FLT-Ni pickup :-how is this guitar price possible ?
