Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini Reviews
No compromise (well, kind of)
So yeah there are differences between the mini and the TS808....can I blind test A/B and be able to tell which is which? No....can you? Probably not. TS Mini sounds stellar! Especially as many players' must-have OD having such a small footprint means you can easily fit it on any board no problem.
Build quality is phenomenal, thing is built like a brick. Everything feels top notch. The bottom is quite finnicky when it comes to sticking velcro. The WORST thing about this pedal is that the Tone and Volume knob are built in a way where you can't possibly ever see where the notch on the knobs. This makes fine tuning a pain in the bottom-end, especially for those who are particularly specific about their knobs (no pun intended).
I mean....talk about value for money....
Ibanez TS Mini
Great sound, solid construction, low noise but rather tricky to adjust 2 small pot meters - otherwise fantastic creamy sound!
Worth every penny !
A small TS with a big sound!
Sounds absolutely fantastic. Imho: every pedalboard should have (at least) one. Very well made.
(The two little knobs are small indeed, but after all: it is a mini pedal)
Classic TS sound in a smaller pacakge, win win
Title says it all, i'd say it's even better than the original TS since the small tone and volume knobs are harder to turn meaning they don't get messed up by accident when transporting, for example. Great purchase!
tbh... idk
Maybe the knob size is its biggest defect (Volume and Tone)...
Too small, there' no white indicator on them, can't ever tell where they are (without a ton of light in the room)
It seems to be a lot darker sounding compared to other TS like pedals
It's a tube screamer
cuts some base and boosts/overdrives nice.
A classic pedal, perfect for a mini board
Awesome pedal. It's really good to have a TS pedal in a small compact size. It sounds really good and I believe it also can be set to have more gain than a full size one.
Very good product.
Great little pedal
Classic tube screamer sounds in a small format. Sounds just as good as the bigger version to me. Only downfall is the tiny knobs for level & tone which you can't read from a distance but for this price I'm not complaining!
Its the Tube screamer
It works like a big one, it's much heavier than it looks like and really very well made. I love it.
You Know What it is Already
I use it mainly for a mildly overdriven clean/on-edge/bluesy tone. It does that very nicely, and has pleasing harmonics & touch sensitivity.
I also use it to add more gain, tightness and a mid-range, "vowel-like" character to my high gain rhythm tone. It does that well too, which is why that's a classic use of it. That works well stacking into another pedal or running into the front end of an amp.
I had to have one, and I like that it mimics the 808 design in micro. It's an aesthetically pleasing and sturdy, weighty little box.
My only complaint is that you can barely see where the smaller tone and volume knobs are pointing, especially from any distance or with the led on. Some little white strips there would help with visibility. Take a leaf out of the Nobels Odr-Mini book, they have off-white/glow-in-the-dark ones.
tiny but powerful
This pedal combines really well with my deluxe reverb. The tiny knobs are not made to fiddle a lot with, but no complaints at this pricepoint.
Great imitation of the TS in a mini-pedal format
It's not exactly the sound of the larger TS circuits but it's close enough for a live gig! For some reason the "mini" versions of some pedals sound (to me) like they have less bass and sound thiner than the bigger models, but in this vase I remedied this by using before the TS mini my Xotic EP booster (a clean boost with a slight bass boost).
The mid-boost response can be annoying while playing alone, but during a gig I find that it's exactly what is required to boost the guitar without competing with the bass or keyboard.
I bought this pedal a while ago and would now hesitate between this one and the Wampler Tumnus, which is about the same format but seems slightly more versatile.
People love this but it doesn't compliment my rig too well
I keep this off my board as I find I got lost in the mix when I use it but that may just be done to my rig. It certainly boosts mids and can be used a pure boost switch !
Versatile overdrive in a compact format
I have used this as my only overdrive playing rock and also in a chain of drives and it sounds very good. It is solid and simple to use.
My only problem is that after a few months of use it started to rattle whenever I turned the 'overdrive' knob. It didn't affect the sound in itself but it is just frustrating to turn the knob during a gig and make an ugly sound. Might have to change the pot, but for the price this pedal was worth it.
TS in a small package
As I use overdrives occasionally, I was looking for a small and portable version of the tube screamer. As for me, it sounds slightly different to the original TS. But I prefer the tone of this mini version. Since there is not much space left, the handlers for tone and level are a bit small. But if you do not tweak too much that is not a problem at all.
Pros:
- small size;
- light weight;
- great tone;
- great price.
Cons:
- handles for tone and level could be slightly bigger.
Great TS on a small case
Original TS sound and a very small metal case. Although there is no battery compartment, it is perfect for a small pedalboard. Simple controls allow for the adjustment of tone, gain and volume. All in all, a great alternative to the traditional TS.
Very very good
A very good overdrive with a big sound in a small package.
Can easily dial in a classic overdriven tone with this pedal.
Tiny \ Lovely
If board space is at a premium this works great. Same tones as its bigger brother and built like a tank. Made in Japan too!
Cons: nothing yet
(Edit) Found a con - on this range of Ibanez pedals, the small knobs do not have a visible marker to show where they are set. Need to figure out where they are set by rotating the knob to and fro.
Cant go wrong with this one
As a standalone overdrive it is best to have your valved amp cranked on the edge of breakup or else it will have this "parallel-like" sound with your dry signal underneath the overdriven sound. Superb for for stacking with other pedals. Very articulate, great note separation. For the price it's hard not to give this pedal 5 stars. Very raw sounding and instant "vintagizer".
Good!
Extremely small and very good sounding. I don't understand how is it possible that one small thing like this can weight so much, ahah
It's a good and affordable original real tubescreamer, what to ask more?
