Jensen C8R 8 Ohms Reviews
The final touch
Paired with the small Vox MV Clean and the small BC108, this speaker completes the overall Blackface vibe in my practice setup. Works really well with all kinds of drive and distortion too. I generally use a large pedalboard into a clean amp, so this works great for the same sound albeit in a tiny format.
Not for metal
I purchased this speaker upgrade for my Peavey Blazer 158 (USA made) because I felt the stock speaker lacked clarity and sounded muddy, which wasn't ideal for my metal playing. While the upgrade was better than the stock speaker for clean sounds, my review will focus on its performance on the drive channel, which I use exclusively.
First impressions of the speaker were positive; it looked sturdy and durable. I installed it with hopes of improving my amp's sound and adding to the positive reviews from other users who claimed that the upgrade added more headroom, clarity, and volume.
I found that they were right - the speaker did indeed increase the volume, highs, and overall clarity of my sound. However, this also meant that I had to crank the amp up significantly more than before in order to get any kind of break up, rendering the term "practice amp" somewhat useless. At reasonable volume levels, the sound was terrible, lacking in usable mids and filled with booming bass and piercing highs that made my amp sound like a bad Boss HM-2. Adding an OD pedal to reduce gain and add EQ control didn't help the situation.
While it's true that amps generally don't sound great at low volumes, turning up the volume only added more low-end rumble and made the highs even more piercing. Note separation was nonexistent when playing fast, with all the notes muddied together and buzzing like a swarm of mosquitoes.
At first, I thought the speaker might be faulty, but after measuring its impedance, I realized it was functioning normally. I can only assume that it needs to be broken in and played at higher volumes for a longer period of time, but as of now, this aftermarket upgrade has downgraded the sound of my Peavey Blazer 158 rather than improving it. It's a shame, as the intent was to enhance my inexpensive gear, but the result was the opposite.
Great speaker
I bought this to put in my laney super cub 8 and it really brought the amp alive, sounds way more fendery now, hooray!
Perfect
Used in my home build Modulus 5 watt amp, sounds great

Little piece of Fender sound, changed my sound with a small 6V6 amp, very nice speaker...
Great amp upgrade
Replaced a damaged Fender Mustang II (20W) speaker. Sounds great, clear and crisp!!!
Excellent upgrade for small tube combos
This is "just" an 8 inch, 25W speaker but you wouldn't know that from its sound. Jensen themselves describe it as having tight bass, aggressive mids and bright highs. They are not overstating.
Amazing bass response here, no muddy, boomy sounds but just crystal clear tone. The higher frequencies sparkle. Very defined and lush sound with single coils.
Sound is partly subjective, so to put things in perspective: I play a Fender Strat with Texas Specials through a tiny Kustom V5 Defender. I like my sound clean, or at most a little breakup. The speaker performs wonderfully here, it really opens up the amp, like removing a curtain in front of it.
Any negative points? Relatively speaking, no. For any improvement you'd need either a bigger speaker (12") or perhaps Alnico (though that is debatable).
If you have a practice tube combo, 5-15W, with an 8 inch speaker that can use an upgrade, this is it. Sure, you'll maybe end up paying 1/4th of what your amp cost, but to me, it's worth it. This speaker (together with tubes from TAD) has made the little Kustom really shine and become an excellent recording amp.
Great upgrade for small amps
I replaced the stock speaker in a small practice amp with this speaker and it improved the sound massively. more clean headroom and more volume.
very good upgrade
Replacement speaker for Peavey Royal 8
I bought this to replace the stock speaker in a 5-watt Peavey Royal 8 amp. The improvement in sound quality was amazing and immediate. I'm really happy it was so easy to turn an ok amp into a great amp just by putting this speaker in. The replacement was easy, too.
turned my 5w valve amp into a pocket rocket!
I got this speaker to replace a Gretsch Electromatic 5w valve stock speaker, (this amp circuit was also released as a fender champion i think) as it is a larger speaker i knew i would have to increase the depth of my amp to accommadate it's size so if your doing something similar be sure you have the know how and an amp with controls to the rear.
Ran a few head to heads against the old speaker and this blew it out of the water stands up to my 15 watt head for jams ,loads of tone and breaks up nicely. this speaker won't disappoint for classic rock, pedals, tone hounds etc.
Very nice upgrade speaker
I bought this to upgrade my peavey valve king 8 royal factory speaker. The speaker change was done easily all you need is a screwdriver. There was a huge improvement of sound with this speaker. With the factory installed the sound was always a bit muddy no matter what but after installing this speaker it is like a new much better amp.
