JHS Pedals Little Black Amp Reviews
I MEAN IT'S OK
It's to expensive for what it do. Distorsion with that sound really bad, like garbage. When i looked online a lot of guys on YouTube recomended it for tube amps. But that thing it's useless. You just need to turn volume on the tube amp all the way down.
Your best friend if you live in a apartment
Very helpful for overdrive tones at low volume (bedroom level).
My amp is alive!
Excellent pedal, JHS quality, super simple and no power, small footprint, your amp and pedalboard will love it.
I thought my amp sounded a bit thin after I could push him during a rehearsal in a studio (Quilter US). After some research, this pedal deserved a try. The volume of the amp is 5, 7 for the gain, which would be unbearable in the living room without this pedal. It sounds amazing, at the right volume (relatives and neighbours could ( / should?) have paid for the pedal :-)
You can read in JHS manual it is recommended to have this pedal only in the effects loop of your amp. I moved the reverb and delay pedals in front of the amp, not an issue for me but something I was not aware of before I got the pedal.
Noisy
Bough it to place it in the FX loop of a tube amp to play while at home an be able to crank up the amp.
It's a cheap alternative to an attenuator but it creates some hum that disappears once you unplug it. I have a digital multi-FX pedal with a master volume option that does the same job but creates no hum.
Overall I'd say it's OK but wouldn't buy it again, I'd rather save and buy a +€250 attenuator if that's the reason you're buying this for.
Very good.
Very easy to use and useful.
Does what it is supposed to
Bought this because of my PRS MT 15 which was too loud for me to use at home. This thing works like a charm and doesn't seem to mess with the sound at all. Highly recommended for anyone who feels like they need a bit more control over their volume
Very useful for bedroom playing
I had a problem where I couldn't play with my amp how I wanted, but with the JHS Pedals Little Black Amp I can play at a reasonable volume with out losing any tone.
Does its job.
Nothing else needed for my Blues Deluxe Reissue, that is a notorious loud mischief machine.
The attenuation is just a tad too sensitive, and micro twist of the knob is essentially in between a fly buzz and open amp.
Absolute dream for a Peavey 5150
I got this for my Peavey 5150. Amazing amp but since lockdown hit back in march and theres no gigs this has been an essential tool for playing at home with proper saturated levels hitting the power amp.
For 50 bucks, this is something anyone with a high wattage amp should own in my opinion.
JHS Pedals Little Black Amp
Pedal works fine!
Does its job very decent. I use it as a volume control for my Peavey 6505+ 112 combo and I put it in the effects loop. This way I have more detailed range for the volume on the amp itself.
The only thing I can remark is that the knob does not turn as smooth all around the range of the potmeter. turning from 0 to 50 percent, the knob loses 'smoothness' and becomes somewhat stiffer to turn. From 50 to 100 it becomes more and more smooth towards the 100%.
This does not affect the function and that's the only thing I can remark. In my opinion, great price/quality ratio.
This is great for home use
Have this for a couple of months now.
It's excellent for home use to get the amp cooking at a volume that won't shake the apartment block that i live in.
Built quality is excellent - this feels built like a tank.
To my ears, i don't hear any tone differences when using this.
Overall, highly recommend this !
Lifesaver.
I use this with my Marshall Origin 20c, which already has a power brake; with this, I can get awesome “plexi” style tones at bedroom volume level. My neighbors don’t hate me anymore!
Amazing little pedal!
The JHS Little Black Amp pedal is a great value for money pedal! It does exactly what it needs to do, and it is very easy to use.
Two things I'd like better:
- Level markers would be easy to see where you're at if you'd use it at different levels.
- If you are a first time user of this pedal, or you have had it laying around for some time, it would be nice for the in- and output to be marked.
Overall a great piece of equipment for taming loud tube amps and thus getting the best sounds out of them!
A godsend
Really wanted a decent tube amp, but I only play in a bedroom, this item has enable me to do what I wanted at last.
Super useful device to have in the collection!
The JHS Little Black Amp is a fantastic device for just about anyone to have in their arsenal, especially considering how cheap you can pick one up, it's something I use often and for a couple of different potential purposes.
THE PROS:
Simple and effective. The device attenuates the signal right before it hits the power amp reducing the volume of loud tube amps for those occasions when you need to be quiet and still sounds fantastic.
The device can also act as a kind of pre/master volume if you have multiple master volumes for your channels or other preamps which you want one global control for, which is super useful!!!
THE CONS:
None really, maybe some level markers would have been nice. We just used colored pencils to mark our favorite positions, no biggie and way cooler anyway ;)
A GREAT option for those looking for cheap, reliable good sounding form of amp attenuation, would absolutely recommend.
JHS great as always
Nothing much about it, works perfectly fine and does what it says! You can't make a mistake with JHS
Does the job
I use this with my Fender HR Deville 60W which is loud as hell (and has no master volume), to tame it when at home. The LBA has done well its job as expected.
Pros:
Simple/cheap solution to a common problem
Cons:
- You could probably build this yourself with a potentiometer if you research a bit on the internet.
- The closer the potentiometer is to its 'zero' (min volumen) you'll clearly hear a degradation in your tone. There isn't any obvious degradation if you have it from half way onwards.
For me, if you're looking for a professional attenuator you need to prepare to spend 30 times more money. But if you're looking to solve your play-at-home-quieter issue, and you don't bother to build this yourself, the LBA is definitely worth the money.
Great
If you have an amp with an effects loop that gets slightly too loud before it becomes useful then this is a perfect solution.
As they say, sometimes the simplest of designs are the best.
JHS = AMAZEBALLS... Period.
Use it in the FX loop of my Fender Blues Deville to turn the volume way down and still get a nice tone. Superb!
Spot on solve
I have a Joyo Zombie which comes in at 20w paired with a 1x12 Harley Benton Vintage Cab and I immediately had the problem with not being able to push the volume anywhere past 2 without it becoming too loud for my bedroom.
The Little Black Amp solves this problem immediately, I cranked the pot on it to the point where i can have my volume at about 12 on the amp and it now sounds completely clear, driven and full, where before with the volume on such a low setting the sound was very bassy and unclear, but this has allowed me to push the preamp tube and create a wonderful tone. Very very happy overall and would recommend!
