Very Happy With My First Synthesizer

I have only owned the XD for a week, but I am very happy with my purchase so far. As a beginner, I found it easy to start playing this synthesizer immediately and feel that diving deeper into the instrument won't be a problem. I gave up the Waldorf Iridium for this. The Iridium is a fantastic instrument, and feels rather like a Minilogue XD on steroids. However, with that said; I don't feel that I am going to miss the Iridium that much. And, that's not even considering the price difference. As I have never used a keyboard; I am happy with the small playing pads. However, I will also use the XD with a hardware controller. Integration is excellent with my existing set-up. I am very new to the synthesizer world, but for me this is a great piece of gear.

Lovely thing

Straight out of the box, this thing sings. I don't think there is anything even close for the money.

Beautiful, well built machine with and amazing and diverse sound

First of all the minilogue xd is a beautiful, well built machine with and amazing and diverse sound.

It comes packed with loads of diverse presets to get you goin straight away and is a blast to use.

Handling:

The minilogue xd's sound design interface is engaging and easy to use, giving it great live performing capabilities.

Everyday use of the synth feels streamlined and fun.

The built in step sequencer is a bit reduntant on a module that more or less requires external MIDI sources and I rarely find myself using it.

It is a nice feature to have though, and enables the user to program complex patches, especially when automating motion inputs.

Features:

The minilogue xd is a fully equipped and versatile polyphonic synthesizer. The huge amount of factory presets are a great way of quickly learning the synth's capabilities and give a good starting point for custom patches.

A few more effects and modulation options such as letting the LFO control multiple parameters simultaneously would have been nice.

What the built in effects lack in variation they make up for in potency and user effects and oscillators can be added.

Diving deeper into the customisation options (such as loading user ocillators and effects) is a bit teadious however and requires programming knowledge or third party tools and packs.

Sound:

This little machine sounds incredible. It has a rich and full sound both in simple and complex patches and is able to produce some truly massive sounds with its various voice modes.

There isn't much else to say here, it just sounds very, very good.

Quality:

As stated above the minilogue xd feels very well put together in both the exterior and the interior components. It looks sleek, feels solid and gives great tactile feedback.

I am very happy with my minilogue xd. It is a powerful machine that is easy to learn and fun to use.

At the same time it has great potential for sound design, especially if you are willing to dig a bit deeper into Korg's customisation software.
