I'm an odd guy when it comes to buying anything. I'll do my homework for weeks and weeks on end, and I'll change my mind about the order 10 times looking up reviews, reading others opinions and watching youtube discussions on a product before I'll finally pull the trigger. I did the same with these, and looking back on it - I'd slap myself and say "don't think, just do" with regards to this purchase. I had a pair of Yamaha NS10M's back home in New Orleans that I still curse myself for not bringing with me here to Hungary. And because I was spoiled by those monitors, I found it hard to spit out the cash on these HS8's given they're a fraction of the cost of those NS10M's and I wasn't certain what I'd be getting. What I got was amazing low bass response without hyping...

Avantone MixCubes Active Single Cream

Much has been written about the benefits of the small mid-range speaker for improving your mix. For anyone not sure why this is a good idea there is a great in-depth look at this by Mike Senior for Sound on Sound. () You won't want these as your first or only pair of mix monitors, but they complement your main monitoring. Also, it will take a little while to get used to using them. A simple way of thinking about it is to use the speaker to ensure that your mix sounds good on a small speaker, such as a mono radio or desktop speaker. However, there are some very significant other reasons why the MixCube works very well. It updates the long-discontinued classic Auratone 5C Soundcube, which was used (and almost certainly still is) to help mix many classic top records. Getting the mix sorted...

Neumann KH 80 DSP

Neumann KH 80 DSP

These are my first monitors. I was worried that for a room with an area of 22m ^ 2 they can be "rather weak." I decided to take 80 or 120. I chose 80 with the expectation that if there is not enough power for bass, I will get a subwoofer. As a result, I can not bring them to full capacity, because there is enough power. In all senses. About the sound: sitting in front of them, it seems that something is in the way. It turns out this is open eyes, for the whole sound is already in the head. I'm getting used to it. - The only minus is the DSP functionality, why the minus? Because only apple, iOS 10.3. (I have an old ipad with 9.3) win, android - they generally stayed away. ( . I still really hope in this regard the manufacturer company will somehow work to adapt to...

I got these as an upgrade to the previous A7X, and have been using the A8X. A77X and original A7 before along with other brands, such as Genelecs, Yamahas, KRK etc.. The detailed high-end really sets Adam apart from the rest!! The A7Xs voicing feature is really amazing, having them on the UNR-setting almost eliminates the need for a subwoofer! They sound really big and with a punchy low end, and seem a lot bigger than they are. The ethernet-functionallity is the main reason for my upgrade, being able to tune the speakers to my room with Sonarworks, and having it run in the speakers built-in DSP is a unique feature.

I have nothing bad to say about these monitors. What especially works great for my situation, is that I travel from room to room with variance of acoustics... The sealed container and defined bass, these Neumann's offer it. They are quite sensitive and responsive through it's wide frequency range... The next very important feature for me is the seperation, it's great. The clarity in picture is fine and a must tool for anyone who is mixing. Working at both low and louder volumes they work sweetly for me with transparency in all I mention above. I do have a tendency to work at not a very loud volume though. To add, my ears also don't tire with these monitors. A great investment.

Focal Shape 65

Apart the fact that the Focal forget on many of the speakers turn on the standby switch in the box (google the solution out) the speakers have outstanding sound. The feature I like the most is the space it is able to portray. It has beautiful stereo balance but the depth it has is something! This is is mostly handy while working on voice, which draws in to tiny details and help you keep them while you would just cut them out accidentally when working on less sensitive speakers. The bass range is wide but I have a feeling that they are not that tight is they might be. But the bass picture is overall really nice, say not artificially juicy as others tend to sound like (to me). Once more again, the highest value of these speakers is the details and 3D space they draw. The downside of the...

I bought that monitors with Genelec GLM Set 3.0. That's what I need to get the most professional and quality sound on every place when I want to work. Defenitelly for recomannded for professional use. The sound is really clear and the level of precision is really high. I never expected such a huge different between Genelec monitors and other which I used by long time. Worth of every money, if you want to push your skills and quality on higher level. That model is perfect for small studios, home studios, as perfect refference for mixing or just for artists which want to be sure about their sound in real. One thing is, if you want to buy these, just remember about GLM Set 3.0 - all together probably will give you what you're looking for (quality, precision and clarity from low end to high end).

PSI Audio A14-M Studio Red

PSI Audio A14-M Studio Red

I was concerned at first to buy these after I bought A21-Ms for my studio and was so impressed with sound that I had to get another pair for my digital piano (Kawai VPC1). But I can confirm that the sound from A14-M is just as impressive as it is coming from the big ones! Well I could say that it is just a pure perfection. Regarding my initial low frequency concern - 56Hz is really enough for me - even with A25-Ms I could not reach 27Hz of A0 piano key - so if you need that you have to add a sub to any speaker anyway :) Of course you normally don't put speakers in an open space - so there you have it - "subwoofer" is your back wall... Sound is crystal clear. No phase muddiness whatsoever! And it is loud - whatever room you put them in it will be plenty of that! I have my piano...

Focal Shape Twin

Focal Shape Twin

I've had the Shape Twins for a month now, can finally give a fair review. The build quality is excellent and the monitors look fantastic. There is a real attention to detail in the monitor design, as you would expect from Focal. Sonically the monitors are fantastic, however, it is not a flat monitor - It has a specific character. The low-mids are forward and the high-mids to top end is very sweet if not slightly under-pronounced. Making the monitor very soft on the ear and you can work for long hours without fatigue. The stereo imaging is really amazing and you will be amazed when re-listening to your music library at how well you are able to pick out details in the music. The passive radiator is my favorite thing about the monitor, producing well controlled solid low end without any...

Kali Audio IN-5
