We are fascinated by beauty and quality of Lothar Semmlinger No. 134A Antiqued Cello 4/4. Cello has a wonderful, deep, beautiful and vibrant sound. My daughter Nataly who plays the cello, named the cello Brownie. They became best friends on the first look :-) Semmlingers family manufactured realy wonderfull cellos. Thank you.

I bought this Cello to start learning how to play. The processing is done very well, and it is definitely a good choice for beginners. The strings do sound a bit metallic, so I would recommend exchanging them to make the sound sweeter and richer. My teacher is also very happy with the choice of this Cello.

I had never touched a string instrument in my life before buying this Lothar Semmlinger 132A cello, so I cannot possibly compare it with others. It does, I think, seem to me to be very well made. It is reassuring, even for a beginner, to play on an instrument made by a small family owned workshop, in stead of a mass produced one. I telephoned Lothar Semmlinger in Baiersdorf with some of my questions, and they were very friendly and helpful.

For an intermediate amateur cello player, produces a very nice sound. The bow is of good quality. The hue of the wood is darker than pictured. Came with the strings mounted onto the fine tuners and pegs. Well packaged for shipping. Only negative was that my fingers were going black from pressing on the fingerboard. Edit: Found the A string difficult to keep in tune. Would recommend.

I'm satisfied with this cello. It's obviously won't perform like an expensive one, but this is a cheap instrument. For a few weeks it got out of tune often, but after that it holds the tuning well enough, i rarely have to use the pegs. In the lower registers it lacks a bit of 'umpfh', but overall sounds fine (besides a serious wolf tone exactly on f#). The wood seems nice, even though the lacquer fees a bit thick/cheap, the colour is beautiful.

I'm a violin player and my wife recently decided to take up cello, so without anywhere local to try one, we decided to take the risk on this since I know Stentor make good quality violins for beginners. It met my expectations, which is for a playable, ok-sounding instrument. This isn't going to blow anyone away, and you will have to set up the bridge yourself - not that hard but you likely won't get it perfect so if you can get it set up by a luthier, do. The sound is good, not exceptional, loses something as you move up the neck, but good for the basics and certainly fine to learn on. The overall quality is decent - no major flaws to be found, tuning is stable, fine tuners are smooth and it looks the part - but it's nothing special. This was a gift for my wife who is an intermediate at cello.I wanted to buy a cello that wasn't a beginners one, and I understand this model was more traditional materials (e.g. ebony tuning pegs etc). I was looking at different models and I suppose I finally ended on choosing Yamaha because of it's reputation within orchestral instruments manufacturing. The packaging seemed sturdy.the instrument very well protected. It came with a soft-case, which seemed pretty ordinary. I would guess few would transport/store a cello (in this price tier) in a soft case. My wife already had a cello hardcase and was uninterested in it. Alhoewel aangekondigd als Duitse makelij van Europees hout is deze cello in China gemaakt. Op de verpakking staan er handgeschreven notities in het Mandarijns. De afwerking is niet al te best, hier en daar wat ongelijkheden vooral op de randen. Er bleven ook veel witte sporen achter van het polijsten. In de achterkant zit een diepe horizontale kras. Hopelijk wordt dit geen scheur met de jaren. De kam is zeer goed besneden en op goede hoogte: C snaar : 5 mm, A snaar : 4 mm. Dus vlot bespeelbaar. Snaren voldoen, door duurdere en gecombineerde snaren te plaatsen zal de klank verbeteren. De klank is diep en volumineus, met sustain. De A snaar klinkt vol, niet scherp en is bespeelbaar en goed klinkend tot boven op de toets. Conclusie: goede studentencello
