I wanted a djembe drum that would have rich bass while being lightweight and this baby certainly does the trick! The bass is surprisingly deep and I also love the fact that I'm not carrying "a piece of dead goat" around (synthetic membrane FTW) - not to mention it doesn't get out of tune due to a bit of moisture :) The only disadvantage is that I'm afraid to sit on it (like I would sometimes do with a wooden djembe) because the plastic doesn't look strong enough for that - but I prefer to play while sitting on a chair - or standing and moving to the rhythm (keeping the djembe on me with a strap) anyway so that's not really a problem for me. Definitely a great instrument overall!

I play different percussion and drums such as conga drums, nyabinghi, kumina and I know djembe technique. I wanted this drum for years because it sounds more rounded and different from everything I play right now. I am pleasantly surprised. The sound is located between the djembe and conga drums. . Sound of the drum is rounded and there is no high frequencies like on djembe drum. Bass is really good for 12" drum. There is no high resonant slaps if you expected them. It's more middle frequency sound. It's well done and it looks antique. This is a good value for the money.

I bought this for my home studio to have some real instruments to record and mix in with sample libraries. First impression, it's a great looking drum, well built and sturdy. Good height for playing. Even when not playing it looks fantastic and adds a good ambiance to the studio. The sound is perfect for what I was looking for - strong bass and crisp highs. As my first time playing a djembe it took a few minutes to realise the drum has to be played at an angle to allow the sound to resonate. I'm not sure how good it would be to an experienced djembe player, but for my needs and experience it's perfect and I would highly recommend it.

Very light, durable and weather proof djembe. I interrailed through europe for 3 weeks with this thing on my back. It had the same tuning when I came back :) The synthetic heads are also very good in a country with humid summers and very dry winters, no worries about heads cracking.. It might not feel as authentic as a proper wooden djembe, but the sound is very nice, plenty of bass with lots of high cutting overtones. I tuned my down slightly to increase the sustain of the high tones. Very happy!

It's my first djembe, even tho I have played on a couple ones before, but I must say that this one is just a whole new level. You can say that it's worth the money, even tho I'm no expert, and that the sound is marvelous and just catchy! The outside finish is lovely, even tho it has some 'though edges', understandable due to the fact that it's made by hand (if you want something perfect, just buy some djembe from Toca or Remo, made by machines). It's totally amazing, from the outside, to the inside. You get exactly what you hope, and the shipping is really well done, with the right stuffing on the box to prevent any damage to the material. Final thoughts? Buy it, you won't regret it, at least if you're a newbie like me!

As a drumming group facilitator I want to have drums in my collection that sound great, look great, are durable and don't cost a lot of money. This drum is the perfect drum for anyone who is looking for any or all of these things. Pros: It looks great for a start, it actually looks even better than in the pictures. Because the drum is rope tuned and has a better head than a lot of the other synthetic drums the tone is much richer and vibrant. For only being 9 inches it has surprising depth and warmth. For anyone who plays the djembe at a high level this drum is a wonderful addition to your sound world and gives a different dynamic that a larger drum would not be able to create. Cons: The fact that the drum is plastic is the only con I can think of. I want it to be made of wood to have...

I was looking to purchase my first drum and after consulting with some "drum people" and doing some research I landed on the bougarabou as my drum of choice, and THIS was the one I ended up buying. I absolutely love it!! It is a small but mighty thing, the sound is beautiful, so "big", deep and mellow for such a little drum. People are constantly amazed at the sound that comes out of this drum. So I love everything about it. This is my "gateway" bougarabou because now I'm saving up to get her a partner.... :)

A small and light drum, quite high quality and comfortable. I used it to give djembe lessons to my children. I think that this is a good option for a small child's hand or a woman's hand. His sound is not plastic because it has goat's skin, so the sound turns a little like a wooden one, if it's good to stretch the rope, then the sound is excellent. You can also use it as a walking drum, easy to take it with you to nature for example. I recommend to buy if you want an inexpensive and light drum

I bought this djembe after searching a lot, both on line and on shops in Greece. I was a bit anxious because generally it is not good buying an instrument you have not heard and/or played. Anyway, I decided to go for it and buy it. I have not regreted it once during this one year that I have it! First of all, the sound is very good: the bass is BASS and the tone and slap are very harmonical and very clear. The sound is very "african", I mean it is the real deal if you are aiming for a more traditional sound and approach. Also the quality of the wood and the drum head is very good. It is very resistant and also very pleasing to the eye. In conclusion, I agree and know that there are many djembes that are better but also way more expensive. This instrument here is not expensive...

I have played a lot of djembe in school and it was always lots of fun. That was the reason why i bought myself this instrument. It has really high quality components just the wood could be sanded a bit for better comfort. The skin on the djembe comes without being tuned very well and needs to be tightened a lot to make this instrument sound good. Thats not a big problem though because you can find tutorials on how to do it everywhere on the internet. The tuning itself can be done without any tools. Just don't overdo it or the skin will tear. If you finished tuning you can start playing. I would describe the sound as deep and earthy. All in all i have to say that this is an excellent instrument for the price. I would recommend buying it if you want to start playing djembe.
