What an amazing little instrument. The Aftoton Kalimba is unlike any other instrument that you are likely to find. The sound is unique. First let me state this AKA623 model is actually a Hugh Tracey Kalimba (Alto Model). For those who do not know, when it comes to Kalimbas, Hugh Tracey models are the cream of the crop, they far surpass all other models. Even though this small instrument looks like a toy, do not be fooled, it's a world class piece of kit that could be used by any top percussionist in the world. It's amazing what you can do with the 15 notes and the 2 vibrato holes, everything from simple nursery rhymes to a full rendition of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" can be played on this small hand held wooden box. It's build using the finest African hard wood, and...

I was looking for a creative gift for my nephew and while wanting something musical, I wanted something that didn't need batteries, was easy to make noce sounds and wouldn't be too annoying for the parents... This was the solution! I got it delivered to my work so i could check it for sound and sharp edges etc and as soon as I got it unpacked I just couldn't stop playing it - it is an open-plan office and soon there were lots of teammates around curious and at least one of them ordered one of these for his own kids. Duly sent to the intended recipient, he tore the packet open and spent a good while plinking away. Achievement unlocked! All in all a small but great fun instrument to play whatever your age but especially good for kids.

I’ve never even seen one of these let alone played one This came in a protective bag with a tuner I was pleased to find it in tune with no ‘dead’ notes The wood is a great colour and it is solid and well made We have all been playing it, it sounds delightful and I can recommend especially as it is very reasonably priced

It took 9 days to come to Greece since the day i ordered it. The staff where very helpful and kind. It arrived with DHL and it came quickly at the estimated date of the site! It's very beautiful and sounds wonderful! The way it's designed is very helpful and probably easier to grab and play since i'm a begginer and it's my first kalimba. Definetely recommend this site! I bought this Kalimba for a school production of Lion King to use for some sound effects. It was cheap but sounded great. Using it on top of a Djembe drum to amplify the sound it really had a traditional and magical sound to it. It was everything we needed and more. I have since used it in a recording for an ambient dance track. i would buy this and many others. You can slightly unscrew the kalimba and tune the 'Tongues' to your liking.

Wanted to buy a kalimba for some time to try it and since I'm not a percussionist, I went for the cheaper option at the time, which was this one. I admit I also liked the coconut idea from the start anyway, but I did not expect to get so hooked on this. I don't think I've ever played any other instrument as much and it always comes along on any trips. Kids love it, grown-ups love it, everyone loves it. What else is there to say?...

Meinl Solid Pickup Kalimba

I like the overall quality and sound of this kalimba and I find it extremely easy to retune to different modes. The effects are okay but nothing fancy or fantastic, the delay is quite short. The only negative thing I have to point out with this kalimba, is that the battery compartment rattles a lot a some frequencies. I think it might be fixable with a piece of tape or something that can hold the lid more still and mute the rattling.

The sound is more metallic and punchy than the rest kalimbas I have, the build is very well made so are its tines along with engraved notes on them. the outermost tines are the most problematic though they are not dead they are hard to use them easily. The pickup quality is satisfactory maybe with an external microphone you will achieve better results recording this instrument. Overall its a good purchase but would prefer a bit more soft sound.

The instrument is good in all the general aspects. Good sound, balanced between low frequencies and highs. Perhaps the high frequencies are not very rich in harmonics. Only negative point in terms of playing: I find it difficult, personally with large hands, to play the short bars without running the risk of colliding in the lower bars, the position can be improved. It is delivered in a very elegant box.

Meinl KA9WW-BK Wah-Wah Kalimba

I used this instrument in every possible way, and played it for the production of different kinds of music. It just sounds good. Pros & Cons The sound and material quality of this instruments is very good for its price. The release of the sound at each hit on the tines is long and gives a calming and harmonious sensations. The screws of the z-bracket are easy to adjust for fine tuning. The box hole is different from traditional kalimbas, but it allows you to create a wah-wah effect that sounds pretty good. The long decay of the sound allows the player to make long and precise wah-wah sounds. Put a reverb on it and you are good to go. Therefore, the box hole adds more possibilities to the instrument than traditional kalimbas. The kalimba fits good in an adults hands. The only remark I...
