GREAT FEATURES; But...

This unit has so much potential...the initial idea is great but unfortunately half baked.

My biggest issue the the noise...which for some reason I did not look at when purchasing (think I was burnt out looking at so many solutions). Its self noise is up near 30db I think...I have to look up my tests.

The actual sound is fairly transparent and in line with the price.

The build is very good but here are my gripes:

1. Why not have a multiplier for the impedance? Its designed for dynamics which do better with much higher impedances. Many of the ones I have do much better with >50k but the highest here is 15k

2. Why not use a better opamp...i know its all price related but I would be very surprised if spending 30c more on something quality would lift the whole package

3. Why not allow self/battery powering? Phantom only makes it tough for simple field work

4. A unity gain option (a 3 way toggle instead of 2) would really help in that you could use the box purely as an impedance converter without involving the noise/colour. Would help if the gain settings actually told you the real value instead of 'more'/max.

The ability to switch down the impedance is really good too...being able to load eg an sm57 to 600 ohms gets rid of some of the 8k brashness and stops the ringing.

Overall its an ok buy but the noise does let it down. Im a hard marker but it otherwise would get a 4 for overall value
