Küng 2603 Superio Bass Recorder
Based on 3 reviews
The Kung Superio Bass in Cherrywood is outstanding. I have owned and played five other bass recorders, and the Kung is by far the best instrument to play. The first thing you notice (I still notice it each time I pick it up after a full month of playing) is the strength of the sound. The other players in our group commented on this immediately also. Deep, resonant notes with a woody and robust tone. The lowest notes are striking, the F, F# and G are the strongest and loudest I have ever heard. G# is the poorest note on the recorder, as it is on every recorder; it is a weaker sound but it’s playable and responds readily. C# is another note which isn’t as bright, but it’s still good. B natural (soft on some recorders) is terrific. From then on the notes are strong, bright...
Mollenhauer TE-4528K Dream-Edition Bass

Wow !!! What an instrument. Everything about this Bass Recorder from Mollenhauer shouts Quality and Excellence. But by far the biggest feature is the Sound. A rich and vibrant sound through out the entire range of the Bass Recorder. The bottom end speaks beautifully, and it sails into the 2nd octave with no problems whatsoever. Made from matched Plumb wood with maple highlights, the Recorder is stunning to look at, and a joy to handle. The hole and key positions fit my fingers perfectly without any stretching required. The angle of the Knick (bent) head joint is shallower than most other Knick Bass Recorders, which I was a little worried about before it arrived, but once again Mollenhauer have proved they know what they are doing as it fits the hands perfectly. It comes in a really strong...
Aulos 533B Symphony Bass Recorder
Based on 2 reviews
It's a wonderful instrument, sounds very good (see below for my useage), very responsive, light in weight and requires absolutely no maintenance. I wish all my instruments were like that! I've had one of these instruments on loan for a very long time, close to 20 years but wanted to get my own. After considering getting a wood recorder I read up on the issue and found that in the lower register recorders it hardly matters at all to the sound whether it's wood or plastic. And the plastic lasts 'forever' whereas the wood will not, far from it. So I got me a new one which is 99% the same as the old one (different thumbguard) and it feels exactly the same and I will be very surprised if it doesn't last longer than I will :) Disclaimer: I'm an experimental improviser so I don't play...
Paetzold by Kunath Master Contrabass Recorder
Based on 2 reviews
I wanted a Contrabass recorder for use with my recorder group and this instrument has fulfilled all my expectations. I find it suits my way of playing very well and produces a lovely tone with good response throughout its entire range. The keywork gives security to note production, especially in the upper range of the instrument (no need for "pinched holes"). It's made to a very high standard of workmanship and I'm sure it will allow me to make good music for many years to come, being of robust and serviceable construction, with a strong, well made case to protect it during transport etc.. The purchase price is not insignificant but compares very favourably with other Contrabasses . I can thoroughly recommend this instrument to everyone.
Yamaha YRB-61 Bass Recorder
Based on 1 reviews
This hand-made recorder is of exceptionally high quality and produces a mellow and rich tone. This is an expensive recorder, but you get what you pay for. The quality here is astonishing and it is itself a thing of beauty. The overall shape is extremely pleasing, and the staining of the maple wood is warm and extremely pleasant to look at. Once assembled - it's in six parts! - it is not heavy and is very easy to play. It comes in a robust hard case. In addition to the recorder itself, this also contains some grease, a cleaning rod and a neck loop with which to support the instrument via a clip attached half way down the recorder's body. The recorder itself is in three parts, but there is also a wooden cap to be affix, then the breath tube and finally the small mouthpiece, so six parts...
Küng 2722 Superio Great Bass
Based on 1 reviews
I play in medium to large groups, usually the deepest instrument in the group. Usually Renaissance, Baroque, sometimes Modern music or Jazz. This is a beautiful instrument, tone excellent. Response flexible, can play fast runs easily. Jumps down to lower notes sound very well. The direct blow allows a great deal of control, and the delay between starting to blow and the note sounding is reasonably short, and very predictable. I find the instrument needs a quite a lot of air, need to play in short phrases, but this can work well for running bass parts. Lower tones beautiful, rich and easy to sound. Upper tones clear and easy to sound, except that I find the second octave "a" can be hard to sound, while "b flat" is easy and clear, "b" and "c"...
Mollenhauer 2546K Canta Bass Recorder
Based on 2 reviews
I use the Mollenhauer 2546K Canta Bass in a small recorder ensemble, mostly for playing duets and quartets. I also have a Canta Soprano, Alto, Knick Comfort Tenor and Knick Great Bass. It is a good series of satisfying recorders. The instrument is good to look at and is nicely put together. The case is an excellent fit and neither too bulky nor too heavy. The sound response is good and the instrument is not difficult to play. The windway tends to clog with water very quickly, much more so than any of the three plastic basses I played formerly (an Aulos bocal-blown and two different Yamaha Knick instruments). This is a disadvantage in a long piece, as one needs to clear out the water before the instrument stops altogether! The sound is a little more "husky" than I had expected...
Yamaha YRB 302 B II Bass Recorder
Based on 3 reviews
I am delighted with the Yamaha 302. It plays reliably in tune from bottom F throughout its register through 2 octaves. I play in a 3 different groups and find the sound of my Yamaha bass holds its own alongside the more expensive wooden basses. This is my second Yamaha YRB 302 as I needed a spare and am so pleased with the model that I bought a second. The only downside is that the top joint on my old one keeps getting stuck and is difficult to budge. This problem has not occurred on my new one.
