When I first opened the opened the case I sat back in awe of the craftsmanship, what a work of art! The recorder is beautiful as well as being perfect to the touch. The sound quality is without question excellent and the tone is very even throughout the range. The quality of the workmanship is almost breath taking and the finished item is so lovely to handle. This little gem seems to have a life of its own and your fingers dance so much better over the tones holes, it seems like you can play faster and more precisely than ever before. This was such a great purchase, I'm one happy piper!
Moeck 4206 Rottenburgh Soprano

I purchased this Moeck Rottenburgh olivewood soprano/descant recorder because I've owned a Rottenburgh olivewood alto/treble for 25 years and a more beautiful tone you could not hope to find! I was interested to see if the soprano/descant recorder would have a similarly rich tone and it certainly does... Moeck make top-quality recorders and the craftsmanship is evident. The Rottenburgh range is perfect for intermediate to advanced players, or those looking to invest in their first good quality wooden recorder. I also have a Moeck Rottenburgh pearwood soprano/descant which has a lovely, bright tone - but the olivewood has a noticeably richer sound at the lower end of the range and handles the upper register beautifully. I used to be in a medieval trio but these days I play folk music in a...

This was my first wooden descant recorder after playing a range of plastic recorders for a while and I am very pleased with it. I am not a professional or expert recorder player and use this recorder mainly for personal playing and learning. It has a nice, clear and bright tone with all notes easy to play. In my opinion it sounds better than most the top of the range plastic recorders I own and does not clog with condensation often. The Rottenburgh also looks aesthetically beautiful and appears quite expensive with the dark stain effect, while it also comes with a nice zipped box to keep it in. It is impregnated with wax so does not require oiling like other wooden recorders. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase.
Mollenhauer 4119R Adris Dream Soprano

This is a delight. The first recorder ever on which I could reach ALL the tone holes reliably from the start. Also pleased that it can be played quite loudly without sounding drastically shrill. I still sometimes have problems getting the high notes (top E onward) but hope to overcome this in the near future. I have seen its appearance criticised, but am myself not at all averse to a little glitz. All in all I like it so much that I've bought the plastic model as well for when I practise for a long time.
Mollenhauer 5916 H Modern Soprano Recorder

I have been an amateur recorder player on and off the last 19 years, and in that time, I have tried several different recorders. Of course they have different sounds, which sometimes means they are suitable for different uses. A regular Baroque-style recorder tends to have a very thin sound for the lower tones - or indeed a very different sound quality, making one sometimes even avoid C and C# altogether, narrowing the useful range of the instrument. Also the pitch tends to fluctuate even with small variation in breath pressure, only very precise blowing making the instrument in tune. For the Mollenhauer Modern, volume varies more than pitch with varying breath, lending itself to a different kind of expressiveness that I find particularly useful when playing modern music, elegies or slow...

I think the sound is very good so I gave it a 5 star for sound. To be honest though I have nothing to compare it to since this is my first recorder. I am just starting to learn and chose moeck because of all the good things people were saying about this brand. As for construction, I can comment. The instrument is extremely well made. It is very solid and its surface is very smooth. It is a pleasure to look at and hold. The pictures on this site do not do it justice. Just by holding it you can tell it is a quality instrument.
Mollenhauer 1094 Prima Soprano Recorder

I bought this descant recorder because of the other great reviews - this recorder is well worth every penny! As other people have already said, the 'plastic' head joint is better than wooden head joints because it doesn't need much 'warming up' & doesn't need to be 'broken in' like full wooden recorders, head joint won't swell with moisture etc. It does have a lovely tone compared to 'plastic' recorders. My recorder teach is very impressed with this recorder! I would certainly buy this one again if necessary. Please can we get this range in tenor!!
Mollenhauer 5123 Denner Soprano Recorder

This soprano recorder has a very sweet warm sound and the lower notes are strong enough without too much risk of over blowing them. The mouthpiece is also not overly smooth which is good if you're salivating a lot; you still can hold the recorder comfortably. On the minus side: I was a bit taken aback when I saw that the recorder finish was not as pretty as looks on the website. The colors are much blander. However, I would still recommend this recorder on account of its excellent sweet sound and ease of play ability.

This is a truly superb instrument with really amazing potential. The sound in the lower registers is sweet but resonant and the upper registers speak clearly. Tuning is immaculate and the quality is, as always, fantastic. Plum wood may not be as common in these factory instruments as some other woods but I think it has such a lovely tone. And I think I’m right I’m saying that it’s specific density is not that much lower than Castello boxwood, so for me it is a great alternative at an attractive price. Aesthetically my instrument looks quite different from the instrument pictured here, it is lighter with a very distinct wood grain. This is to be expected with products made of natural materials such as this. I think it is by far the nicest looking recorder I own. The case...
Moeck 2202 Flauto Rondo Soprano
Based on 1 reviews
I’ve been hesitant for years to upgrade from plastic recorders to wooden ones as I am predominantly an oboist, but increasingly compose and perform on recorder more and more. In an effort to remain budget friendly but upgrade, I purchased this Flauto Rondo soprano. I am beyond thrilled with the overall quality of the instrument. I have played with several professional recorder players, and they were complimentary of the warm sound, even scale, and versatility of the instrument. For anyone looking to play a wooden instrument that is of high quality but isn’t looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money, the Flauto Rondo line is the choice you should make!
