Great Pedal

It's a very versatile pedal, fits for every tone, clean, boost. VFM <3

Very good for what it does

Obviously it’s not the most versatile pedal on its surface but it works well. The on off feels nice to use and the sound retains good quality at larger gains

Exactly what you would expect

It is a really great pedal, my other guitarist and myself got this one and it is really good. Robust, but not heavy, expected quality from MXR just as any other MXR pedal. Does it job if you want some more sound and pushing your solos a bit more, or if you have two guitars with different inputs volumes.

Best boost for clean tones

For the price, this is quite a decent pedal for that frusciante-ish crunchy clean tone, works very well

MORE gain

Well, doesn't get more simple than one knob. Can add quite a lot of gain to the signal, actually. I use it either as a lead boost or to compensate for weaker signal. My favourite use is after fuzz/drive, at about 11 o'clock, with the guitar volume knob rolled half way down. Signal is nice and strong, and for a lead tone just roll the guitar knob up, no monkey business. This not a transparent boost, though, so if you are looking for this, better try something else. Rolls out some of the highs. My personal preference - I like it. Build quality is MXR - this will take up kicking around no problem. Knob is large and with the Dunlop rubber tyre it makes it very easy to adjust with your feet while playing. Now this is a lot of text for one knob. Very cool.

Does the job

I put this on my pedal board as a booste when playing solos and it does this perfectly. I have it set at about 10 o clock and that is all you need. This pedal can go very loud.

Just boost!

I have a lot of overdrives on my board due to playing in covers band and the need for multiple different sounds. With a new project just started which sits on the heavier side of rock I realised a need for a final clean boost.

I got my first micro amp second hand recently and was so impressed that I've just bought this new one. I was so shocked at how neutral the boost was that I immediatly realised I needed one at the start of my chain as well as at the end.

I can now use single coils and humbucker equipped guitars in the same set and just use the micro amp at the start of my chain to level up the single coils without affecting the tone in any way. And with the one at the end it doesn't matter how many overdrives are on I still get a boost in volume without any added gain. Awesome!

I've got a Mooer pure boost in the middle of my board which does give a very clean boost but it has a slightly clinical sound when on which the micro amps don't.

All in, if you want a boost in volume or a single coil level adjustment both without any tone coloration buy one of these now! Or two like I did!

Great sounding boost!

Great sounding, classic boost. Sounds like dream in the right places. Since it lacks all features, apart from "boost", there's not much to configure if the pedal doesn't work for that particular sound you are looking for. On the other hand, if you are into classic, boosted rock/pop sounds there's nowhere at all to go wrong. Well built pedal, like always from MXR.

Durable pedal, like allways when it comes to MXR. Allthough I personally feel that this pedal colors the sound to much for my own taste.

- I was looking for a real simple transparent boost, but this cracks up your sound just a bit and gives it a bit more low-end.

Overall a real nice pedal if you're not afraid of a boost pedal that gives you more gain and contour.

Good value for the money

Handling / Features:

It can not get easier than one knob that does excatly what it is supposed to do.

Sound:

I use this pedal with a 100W Hiwatt and a 30W Orange . Together with a Les Paul and a SG this pedal is perfect to kick your clean amp into overdrive or to kick your overdriven amp for screaming leads. I did not recognize any negative impact on my sound, it just does the job and boosts the signal.

Quality:

The pedal is built like a tank like every other MRX pedal I have owned so far. A solid pedal with quality switches and jacks. I am using the pedal since three years and it never let me down so far.

Really good Booster!

I use the Micro Amp to raise my volume in solo passages a bit. The Micro Amp is a boost only, the sound is not distorted. The case is of heavy quality and withstand heavy loads.

Only the arrangement of the power supply pin plug very close to the input is not so favorable.

MXR Micro Amp Booster

I got this pedal mostly to permanently boost a vintage strat with weak pickups, since i couldnt get my amp working just right without a little more input volume. I was gonna leave it on all the time, when playing that strat. However, when playing other guitars through the same pedalboard/setup i started using it as a solo boost, to kick the preamp a bit harder. The sound is quite transparent, allthough i think there´s a little midboost as well. It is very sturdy, and will not break easily. Have not run it on a battery so i am not sure about battery lifespans. All in all a good product. Have been gigging with mine for a year now, and no problems yet. I would not hesitate to get another if i lost it, or it got stolen. It could be a bit smaller.

Fantastic little pedal!!

This is a little gem of a stomp box and fast becoming my favourite pedal in my rig! It essentially acts as a signal boost and is very easy to use with just one knob to control how much you want to boost the signal. Creates a louder and fuller sound for lead work and also provides a nice little boost if you switch from a humbucker to a single coil. Great for keeping the signal strong at the end of a long effects chain too. Sturdy, reliable and simple. Love it! :)

Not suitable for acoustic guitar

I bought this unit to increase the level of a harmonic solo on my Takemine Santa Fe. The unit couldn't cope with boosting low volume and only boosted hum and no audible note. It didn't seem to like being connected to my guitar at all so I haven't used it since.

Apart from that, like any MXR boxes I've used in the past it has good build quality and is easy to use. I'm sure it is okay for electric instruments, so I've decided to hang on to it.

surprisingly handy little pedal that should feature on every pedal board

the MXR micro amp is a handy piece of kit.

mine arrived very well packaged in a good quality black box. once unpacked i found a very high quality pedal, the case is made of thick metal, the dial is good quality as is the switch.

its designed to boost your signal, but you can use it for way more than that, on large pedal boards, it helps keep your signal strength high. you can also use it to make yourself louder at a drop of a hat, and you can also add a bit of grind when you turn the gain switch to the max

i personally use it to make myself louder on stage when going into a heavy chorus.

being able to ramp up the sound level really helps to get the fans attention. and having the power to change your volume level without the sound guy makes life so much easier.

if you were to get just one pedal, this is the one i'd recommend, its simple, its incredibly diverse in its use, and the quality is a cut above all my other pedals.
