Responsive, good definition and depth.

Not actually in need of sub for reasonable levels.

Absolutely worth the money!

I tried about 7 different monitors before I found these gems. All I can say is that without a doubt for the money these are fantastic. In fact when I tried them against my Genelecs I actually preferred these. Keeping in mind I'm a seasoned bedroom producer, I have countless hours of experience but I'm by no means a professional. Don't hesitate, just buy these!

Awesome studio monitor!!!

It's a really good studio monitor, looks nice and elegant, amazing sound quality, low frequency around 40-250 sounds very rich and thick but not aggressive, excellent mid range to create width, create very clear image, and also have sweet and comfortable treble, you can heard all the detail "honestly" from the speaker, highly recommend this product!!!

Excellent project, craftmanship, sound performance

Extremely flat and revealing monitors, with a great spatial rendition, free from any trace of harshness in the high frequencies and no bloated low-mids like other compact speakers that try to sound bigger than their size.

Coming from Adam (A5X and A7X), which to my ears resulted a little too sizzling in the highs and also somewhat muddy in the bass, the definition offered by the Neumanns at all frequency ranges is a great step-up.

Like many other users have reported, the reproduction of the mids is very precise and balanced. What is even more impressive is the low end: although the KH120 have a smaller woofer and cabinet than the A7X, they go deeper down and provide a tight and well controlled bass with no boominess: that's a surprise indeed. Just to make clear, the Neumanns could surely benefit from a subwoofer if weight in the lowest octave is needed, but even without a sub, kick drums and basses are beautifully rendered with satisfying punch and articulation, more so than on other 7" and even 8" monitors that I've tried.

The craftmanship is very fine (made in Ireland), they are extremely well-built and everything oozes quality and great care (even the scotch tape used to seal the plastic bags protecting the speakers inside the box looks to be of superior quality!)

All in all, an excellent product. The price might seem on the high side among 5" woofer monitors, but considering that sound-wise they compete with bigger ones, and also keeping in mind the quality level and the EU manufacturing, these compact Neumanns have a great cost/performance ratio.

Amazing sound quality !

I'm using these speakers in my home studio. Very neutral, accurate, flat and big sound coming from such small monitors. They are loud enough, not at all "tiny" or "boxy" sounding. Even at low listening levels sound is linear and revealing (good for protecting your ears). Construction is top notch, finish impeccable, german attention in details is seen everywhere. I'm very happy with my purchase. I expect them to last for long time because Neumann is synonym with quality and reliability.

I purchased these speakers after an intensive reading and listening few models at the local studio equipment store. However, this model was not available for testing so the purchase was, to put it this way, "blind". I currently use them for music production straight from my macbook's jack output.

I'm delighted to say that it was a very good choice they look amazing and sound clear and transparent. They translate really good to other sound systems, the highs are clear and the lows as far as these speakers can go are accurate in my opinion. It's very easy to hear flawed mixes with them.

Two cons: I would liked them to have RCA connector (I knew that this was lacking before the purchase so I had the proper cables prepared). The second issue is rather cosmetic: the front lights are not in the same nuance, one is slightly darker (at least on my pair) so my OCD kicked in and I disabled the front lights alltogether.

I do recommend them together with Neumann's table stand, should you use them on a regular table: it's very easy to adjust the height of the speakers and they isolate the subsonics good enough.

Excellent studio monitors

Before I decided to buy them, I could try and hear them at my friend and I was really pleased with them. I use it in mixing home recordings, but also at just listening music or watching movies, which has never been a nicer experience.

Pros:

- They sound amazing, very definite and clear sound. Stereo imaging has never been better in my experience. Their frequency response doesn't change a lot if you compare them at low or high levels. My mixing results has improved a lot after using them. Comparing different productions is really objective with those speakers. You hear every little detail in music. And they can also get pretty loud!

- They offer a lot of different functions: input gain button, output level button and also some kind of equalization: control for High, Low-mid and Low frequencies, which can be really useful when trying to get the most neutral sound in differents rooms. I really like the light in front of monitors, so you can always see when they are turned on. You can turn off those, of make them dimmed, which makes them look really attractive. When clipping they light red.

- They have 5,25'' woofer, which is great for my small room.

SUMMARY: buying KH120A was my best buying decision and mixing has never been so enjoyable.

Accurate sound

As has been said before, if your mixes sound good on these speakers they'll also translate well to others.

Frequency wise, these are extremely flat speakers- what you hear is what you get.

If you check the specs on the website, you'll see that there is only a very slight bump in the upper frequencies.

I'm very happy I bought these.

Best bang for the buck

Before buying Neumann KH120A monitors I had entry level cheaper studio monitors but found them to be way too noisy or not accurate sounding. So I started to look at the market and I got recommendations and praise for Neumann from great studio engineers and I decided to give a shot. After I received them I was amazed about the built quality, way better than I could imagine. Started them up and compared to old ones: no noise at all (even when gained to max) and the sound was just perfect for me, very defined stereo field and tight sound.Frequency range goes reasonably down to 52 Hz and more than enough high to 21 kHz, all this within ± 3 dB. So you could easily mix low frequency content with them. Best choice if you don't want to pay thousands and want great results. I have used old studio classics and a lot of other manufactures monitors but these sound best for my ears. You can change the frequency response of these speakers by built in eq on back of the speaker, some like the sound to be brighter some duller, some more punch... Try them out, you don't regret.

Amazing monitors!

These Neumann kh120 monitors are the best monitors in their price range by far! they sound more like 8" monitors and are an extremely accurate representation of the audio. my only issue is that they only go down to 54hz, which is to be expected with monitors this size, and therefore isn't a flaw at all, but something you'll likely want to remedy with an additional sub. great value, great sounding monitors.

excellent near field speakers

I bought these to use as near field monitors at home. These speakers are small but with amazing deep bass than I would expect from these tiny fellows. The construction is solid and with excellent quality. The information and user manual in Neumann website containing useful information to help the users to setup the speakers easily. I had tested these speakers for a few weeks and am very happy with the excellent performance of these speakers. I will definitely recommend these speakers for people who needs active near field speakers. The KH120A speakers are expensive but it delivers very high quality sound that makes me feel that every dollars paid are worthy. I am in the process of buying more Neumann speakers such as the KH310 and KH810 to complete my system setup. I am very confident that these speakers will not make me feel disappointed.

Best speakers on the market right now- the sound is incomparable!

I have listened and compared a lot of speakers over the years.

I have never come across any better speakers.

KRK got a pronounced low end and lacks depth and clarity- good for Electronic music only!

Yamaha the HS8 are good, but they got the typical mid-rangy NS-10 sound.

Adams A7X are good as well, but fatiguing because of the highs.

Genelec's good too, but for me not enough ear pleasing. (I know we are still talking flat frequency response)

Focal is overpriced.

Trust the german engineers, they know what they're doing, especially NEUMANN.

The KH 120A are the best monitors right now. Even the 5.25" woofer gives such a nice low end which no other monitor has achieved in my opinion.

Go and get them, or you're gonna miss the biggest opportunity ever given to you!

Geat speakers

I bought this speakers without having heard them, and I'm very happy with the purchase i made, the sound docent sound is coming from the speakers sounds like is in front of you and the clarity is great even the bottom end sounds good for this size speakers, I'm very happy with this buy ! i would recommend it to anyone!

KH120A

Absolutely fantastic, mixing is made easier with these speakers, the sound is detailed but yet very neutral, without sizzling high frequencies. It's comfortable to listen to the speakers for a long period. It produces massive bass for a small size.
