Palmer PAN 01 Reviews
Excellent price-performance ratio
Excellent price-performance ratio. Pretty sturdy metal box idea for live shows, and with great sound performance. I use these Palmer DI Boxes for several years and never had a single issue.
Rugged passive DI box
I've been using the same Palmer passive DIs at local gigs and since I bought them over 3 years ago and they show no sign of packing in anytime soon. Very rugged little boxes that have faired very well despite weekly use at rock and roll shows.
They sound good line level instruments such as keyboards and sequencer tracks, but fare less well with low level passive instruments which is to be expected with a passive DI. The ground lifts do what they should as do the pads, although at times I've found the single 30db switch a little excessive and would have preferred the option of 2 separate 20db pads instead.
Very dependable, rock solid and handy if your desk is having any phantom power issues. For hi-Z instruments I would recommend the active version.
Excelent product
It has a bit retro design, but it goes unnoticed on the ground.
It's very simple and easy to work with.
It's still a passive, single channel DI box only, so it does limit when you work with various instruments. I bought also the dual channel Samson S-direct, witch has an active option and a price still in range, witch could be a better option depending on the needs.
Super Sonic DI Box for the budget price and German quality!
I bought some of this DI boxes. I also have some Radial DI. If compare them I prefer Palmer because of price range and the same quality of the sound.
And it's German quality by the way!
I don't think that the weight of Palmer's DI box is problem.
I have checked it for the bass-guitar. It sounds perfect to me. It's also good for the any mono source of output.
Palmer PAN 01
These boxes are a great little purchase and very useful especially for practicing or capturing a dry signal to a separate path.
They are solidly built and very easy to use as well as being quite transparent. I can not detect any real colouration of sound after running a guitar through this unit.
Great
Great DI box. Transparent. never given me any trouble. used for acoustic guitars and bass. Really solid in a live situation and very straightforward to use. Haven't used it in a studio situation so I can't comment on that.
Great DI
A sturdy DI that you can depend on.
I use this and a Radial DI, this is just as good when it comes to sound.
The radial is a bit more sturdy, but it cost's alot more.
I recomend this!
Lovely build and reliable
Whilst the Palmer DI is certainly not the cheapest on the market, the build quality of their products renders it one of the best value. Compared to the far more common Behringers, this is like a tank. Sturdy, compact and with some excellent input components that not only secure well but give the impression they won't start crackling at the first droppage.
It fulfills all the roles you expect of your standard DI box and won't set your world alight, but especially in the live environment, when you don't want to run back and forth changing faulty DI units, they have never let us down and seem likely to have some life left in them yet.
Palmer PAN 01 passive DI box
I bought this as a general DI box to have for various applications. It has low noise and is, like any good DI, not noticeable since it does its job unobtrusively. It has all the requisite features of a pad and ground lift. The switches are well protected by the structure of the enclosure resulting in a sturdy little unit. Highly recommended.
Everything I expect from a passive di box.
Absolutely silent, built like a tank but still not overly large. Has all the features I need (-30dB pad, ground lift). For this price, the transformer is of course not jensen-quality, but the frequency response seems very good, no noticeable loss of lows even with drop tuned bass.
A little helper in many situations
My band wanted to use some samples on stage, so we needed an DI box. We went the safe way and bought or own since not every location has enough of these.
We connected it with our live equipment and nothing more than a XLR cable is needed, to bring all the samples to the PA. Pretty cool.
At work I do a lot of jam and recording sessions with young musicians and this little thing became a lifesaver. I use three of these to record the DI tracks from guitars and bass, so we can later reamp everything and mix it with the original signal.
It does it job very well and the quality is very good!
I never had any Issues with a Palmer product.
Great For The Money
Solid little box, good weight on rubber feet so it stays put. Pad and ground lift switches are protected to some extent by the overhang of the case which is a good feature.
Sound quality is not the best ever but certainly good enough for most live applications.
Only minor issue is slightly low output level compared to some other DIs, but I have only found this a problem with passive instruments with dodgy pickups. Probably still worth having a few active DIs around for those.
Otherwise, very good value for money.
Di Box
I brought this about two years ago now and the product is still working as well as the day i brought it. Its a middle of the road product but you get what you need out of it. Nice clear sound with almost zero interference. I also has an option to boosted it so that the feed becomes louder.
i have been using this product to send click tracks to a sound desk for live performances.
never had a problem with it. It has nice bright Yellow writing on it the helps finding sockets in the dark on gig nights.
would recommed this product to anyone looking for a good id box
Excellent D.I Box
This D.I box is very well built, sounds great and splits the signal without any problems. I'm using it to balance the signal of my acoustic guitar and also to split a bass into my desk and an amp. I can't complain. It does what it says it does!
Palmer quality
I like these palmer products. The price is very affordable, design robust and sound good. I have several Palmer products and use them regularly for stage sound.
This small box no exception. Good for guitar and works with bass.
Recommend.
Very good passive DI
I like the quality of this DI, and use it to connect instruments (guitar/bass) directly to the sound interface of my computer, even if the inputs of the sound interface support instrument connected directly. The main reason is that using the thru connection I can connect it also to the amplifier, and record the dry guitar signal, as well as the miced or DI'd amplifier. For habit, though, even if no amp is used, I still plug into the interface with this. Plus this thing is built like a tank and will never break.
Palmer DI box - great
This is a great quality passive DI box. Feels more solid than the Nobels equivalent, and very handy to have around. Being a passive circuit there's no need to worry about batteries or phantom power either, and no active circuitry to colour your sound.
I use mine with an old amp with no line out to get to the mixer and it works perfectly for that.
Versatile DI-Box
The passive Palmer PAN 01 is a really great DI-Box for its price point. I use it primarily for recording and practicing guitar and bass at home. I bought it in the first place due to the limited headroom of my interface, the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24.
After a little time I also did some reamping which worked absolutely flawless.
Since the PAN 01 is a passive DI-Box, it reduces the signal's level when the impedance is being transformed. If the gain is way too high the -30dB switch helps reducing it to a proper level.
The original signal does not seem to be coloured, which might be the most important thing for most users.
On the upsides it also comes with an ground lift switch, it is well built and it comes with a 5 year warranty.
great D.I box for little money!
I am using this D.I. box in ?reverse? to reamp di files from my usb audio interface to my amp. The groundlift works like a charm, it eliminates all that annoying hum and buzzing I used to get when I connected my soundcard directly to my amp. This makes my recording process so much better, I can now just track D.I.s and worry about my guitar tone later while reamping. I never had the chance to use this baby on stage but I can tell you, it´s built like a tank, never failed on me in the studio and probably never will when you use it on stage.
Reamping
You don't have to spend hundreds for a DI box. Excellent sound quality compared with a build quality that will allow you to drive a tank over the little black box. All jacks are solid an properly screwed to the metal case. The small ground lift button as well as the -30dB pad button do their jobs porperly!
I primarily use the Palmer PAN 01 (in combination with the active PAN 02) for reamping purposes:
1) Guitar -> PAN 02 -> Interface -> PC
2) PC -> Interface -> PAN 01 -> Amp -> Microphone -> Interface -> PC
The sound quality is excellent: no hum, no noise!
If i ever need one more passive DI box, i know which one to buy: Palmer PAN 01
You can't get more for your bucks.
