Alternative for

I bought this unit to play silently with the tube heads in my apartment. PGA04 is solidly built, does not require a power supply.

As for the sound, it is not exactly like you get from the real speaker. But it is usable. What I like about PGA04, is that you can mix dry unfiltered signal with the filtered one. This gives some live to your sound. As you have access to the dry signal, you can also use the unit as a load box with DI and send the signal to external IR simulator.

Also keep in mind that you will need a mixer or a sound card.

Pros:

- you can play silently;

- high quality;

- does not require power supply;

- pure analog, no latency;

- can be used as a load box + DI box.

- can mix dry and filtered signals.

Cons:

- sound is not perfect.

the best for play or record in silence

Hello, I have some videos that I have recorded in youtube with this tool, you can see in >

I can't not say that is better as others but I like this system because my amp is always safe, it doesn't need electricity, you don't have to take care if you forget to plug in for example.

Also because doens't have sofware don't have latency

Solid unit

I use the unit to "directly" connect the amp head to my interface. The Palmer unit is very transparent and gives you the opportunity to show the true colors of your amp head.

Pros:

Easy to use, rigid build and transparent

Cons:

Not many features on the unit itself.

Speaker simulator for what?

I had a chance to buy this unit selected as a promising analog speaker simulator. I tried several units: HK red box, Behringer etc, but by reviews I decided to buy it expecting to be the saviour for me. Reality, I was dissapointed.

By features it knows almost everything. I was used it with a Laney GH50L and a Peavey Triple X, none of the were blown :) Solid built, excellent quality. My only issue is really with sound, but that is a big issue for me. I wanted to live with it, but I couldn't. Very dry sound, very far from an SM57 miked sound, very-very far. Even the digital IRs are much better than this. So I sold it.
