That'll do pig

Small, good price, noiseless, nice build, excellent control range, from total-squish to so-subtle you only know its on because your strings feel nicer and you have better sustain and sweeter tone. Very Nice.

Awesome Compressor pedal.

I got this and tried it with 3 different settings/scenarios:

(1) Clean Jazz semi-hollow guitar

(2) Heavy/classic rock telecaster

(3) Classical nylon string guitar

And it performed brilliantly in each case (with tweaks for each guitar as required). Sustain is great, the blend control is perfect - I can still have the right level of dynamics I need. The pedal is sooo quiet too - even with quite some overdrive and a bit more! The guitars all sing with it on. Build quality is extremely good too.

Love it; a great compressor for a great price. Highly recommended.

Neutral.

Neutral, no coloring of sound. EQ is a nice touch.

Finally, a compressor that does it all except break the bank

Thanks to its optical design, clever Blend option and a useful Treble control, you can set this compressor to be so subtle you wonder if it's even on, all the way to funk squash (though admittedly it won't go to the extremes that some OTA or VCA type compressors can).

I use compression quite a bit, especially for funk rhythm, but want to keep my tone as close to what's coming out the amp without compression on. This does just that. There are others that can do it, but they are significantly more expensive.

For the money, there's no competition. Unless you can't live without the extra tweability of say, an Empress or a Cali76; or the prestige of a Diamond Comp, this absolutely sits in their league and leaves you a penny or two for a nice drive pedal.

Recommended.

Great addition for every pedalboard

I was skeptical about whether I need a compressor on my pedalboard, but after a lot of search I decided to go with the philosophers tone and I don't regret it. I use it mostly for my clean tones and it adds a lot of clarity to the sound, while being quite transparent (at least in my opinion). You can go all the way to a seriously compressed tone if you need/want to. Moreover the sustain knob works wonders. One more plus is the size.. i mean it's really tiny and could fit in every board without consuming much space.

simple and good

I like it. I think it's a good compressor as far as small pedal compressors go. Simple to use, doesn't produce noise.

Great mini pedal

Really nice pedal to enhance your tone . The blend feature allows you to retain a lot of dynamics . Sustains for ages too!

THE BEST SUSTAIN WITHOUT THE HUM!!!

If you want endless sustain, volume boost and unique signature sound than this is the right pedal for you! From bleeding treble to mellow Wes Montgomery sound, even with a pick ,you have it all in one package! The best compressor/sustainer pedal ever made! You won`t regret if you add this weapon to your arsenal! Highly recomend!!!

An improvement on the original

I had the original Philosopher's Tone and loved it. Some of the time I used it as an 'always on' pedal to even out string volume and for some extra sparkle and grit, but it was a bit of a pain to power it at the full 18v for the best headroom.

This updated version is fantastic since it uses internal 18v power rails to boost your voltage from a standard 9v input. Combined with the smaller footprint, I think this makes it a must-buy for anyone looking for a mini compressor, and it can't be beat in this price range. The only thing it's missing is the grit control, but that's a tiny sacrifice to make since pretty much every guitarist that wants some dirt or drive already has a pedal they love for that anyway.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
