Presonus Studio Channel

Beautiful

I bought this preamp years ago, replaced the valve for a Sovtek ECC 83 , mounted it in a flightcase with a power amp and use it as a bass amp on every stage. It sounds (especailly for this price) very good and works excellent for this purpose.

Loud crackles!

It works fine as long as you don't turn the gain knob whilst wearing headphones... there's such a loud crackling noise, literally louder than the instrument volume - it could well have damaged my ears.

It's normal to adjust settings whilst recording, and a little electric noise is fine, but it's simply not usable in a real recording situation.

Shame, as the overall recorded sound is actually pretty cool.

Nice addition to my studio for both Vocal and instruments.

The Presonus Studio Channel has been a wonderful addition to my studio. I have used it for both vocal, bass and guitar tracks. There has been no sound or noise issues and offers great compression and EQ adjustments pre interface or source. The warm tub preamp is a good feature. If there was any thing I wish it has was a second channel for recording both vocals and guitar at the same time but that is easily solved by adding a second one but still only a wish. The Comp bypass and EQ bypass is a must have feature. Great Product.

Plenty of tweaking

Using this for hardware insert in DAW.

Very impressed, its solid and fun to tweak.

Compressor is nice and useful, not really a very smacky one but that is okay. EQ is flexible and overlaps, high end is quite smooth. I like you can put the EQ before the compressor if you wish.

Tube drive is very nice, can get a bit too crunchy just back off a little unless you want that. I'm going to burn in the tube for 24 hours, I think that can improve its performance. I may look into swapping it out for a better quality one, Mullard or something like that.

Quality for Price unreal!

I bought this product as I didn't have a valve preamp and now I use it everytime I record, so far I have noticed significant improvements in my recorded vocasl and acoustic guitars, the compressor and eq settings are very easy to use and having a good VU meter is just what I needed. One of the best purchases I've made from this site.

Bare in mind it's only for 1 input at a time, but being a solo artist that hasn't been a problem!

Top Class Pre-Amp without busting the bank.

Another Excellent Product from Presonus.

This Pre-amp is a must for every semi-pro recording facility.

I have used it now to record from Guitar Amps, Vocal and various acoustic instruments.

It is very flexible with all the controls you get on board.

Because it is a Tube Pre-amp it gives that rather warm crunchy sound, and you can really drive that thing well. You can really experiment with your sound without to have it manipulated on your daw. You can switch the polarity, have a low pass filter, -20db on the input if you wish. You can switch the compression before EQ and otherwise. And of course you get a lot of option on your EQ and Compressor too. You can't go wrong with this Pre-amp.

The built quality is also astounding! The Controls are sturdy, and not made from plastic as similar pre amps in the same price range, it all feels just right. I will be buying another one soon.
