Fantastic on a fretless

Using these on a fretless Hamer. Supple strings with great string-to-string balance. Nice, warm tone with good definition. Very close to perfection as far as I'm concerned, and the price is a steal.

I am hooked!

This is my first set of flatwounds; they are on my acoustic, full scale bass guitar. It took a while to get used to the extra string tension, and they were actually rougher on my right hand as well. I started using them for just a couple of songs at a time until I got used to them. I love the sound, it's quite different than round wound strings. While they don't sound as much like an upright as I was hoping, they sound beautiful anyway. They don't produce as much sound as acoustic strings obviously, but as a bass player I always use an amp when playing with anyone else.

on a hofner violin is the best sound

Pair perfectly with a hollowbody bass for that 60/70's sound and with a solidbody for that later Macca sound.

Must have for Höfner basses!

Please note I solely used these strings on my Höfner 500/7 Verythin shortscale bass (which needs a longscale set, even though it is a shortscale instrument!). However, they absolute shine on an instrument like this and beautifully capture the 60's sound I was looking for. Will change the current d'Addario Chromes flats on my Precision bass with these when the time comes.

The Pyramid flats provide even response, a smooth feel and have the right amount of tension (in line with d'Addario Chromes and far less than LaBella flats).

All in all: good playability and great, 'boxy' tone which really gets the most out of a violin bass or similar hollowbody. Highly recommended.

Got these for my harley benton fretless jazz bass, I have a 1980 ibanez fretless and needed to take it "off the road" to resurface the board, the downside of roundwound strings.

They sound and feel.......sexy, and wont damage the board.

The best sounding flatwounds.

I've tried most of the flatwound strings from various brands, and can easily say these are the best yet.

Straight out of the packet, they have some lubrication on them, but it easily comes off with a quick wipe of a cloth before putting them on. Maybe people will like it but I like the feeling of them without it.

The tone is very even across the strings and on a precision bass you instantly get that old school tone we all know and love.

Highly recommend these strings.

Smooooth !

These strings are fabulous, smooth to the touch and smooth to the ear. A beautiful rich, subtle and mellow tone. Why not 5 star for quality ? One of the whippings on the end of the string was less than perfect, it made absolutely no effect to the sound but 5 stars is perfection and this was not.

Great strings that give a good funky feeling, but the low E string was very dull. Had to borrow an E from a different set of strings to compensate.

Wonderful warm vintage sound

A heavenly sounding bass sound from these strings. I think it even will make cheap bass guitars sound good. It's a very warm deep sound, with maybe a little less "trebly" definition. The sustain is actually very good for these flatwound strings. I made a weird combination using these on my vintage BC Rich Eagle bass from 1977, and it does in fact sound marvellous together. Don't be afraid to combine it with different basses. You will always end up with an at least intresting sound.

The silk on both ends of the strings are purple. That can be worth mentioning, not that I care, but I can imagine it would sometimes look strange on some basses. Anyways, it's a pleasure to play on these strings.

The best flats ever?

The best flatwound bass strings ever? - everyone has different requirements from bass strings, but for me, Pyramid Golds are the ultimate old-school flats.

Sound:

After a few weeks of settling in, the twang on the D & G disappears and they blend better with the E & A strings. The sound is amazingly warm and smooth, but with a defined fundamental. I've had these strings on most of my basses at some time or other, and they've tended to sound best on passive basses (Fender Jazz in particular), though having said that, they did sound amazing on my '89 neck-through Warwick Thumb. If you slap, or want a modern sound then these may not be for you.

Feel:

Extremely smooth and polished finish, easy on the fingers and the fret (or finger) board.

Longevity:

Excellent. The longer they're kept on, the better they sound. I changed them on the Jazz bass after 6 years, as the E string had started to sound a little weird. Unless you're really ham-fisted, they will not break

Overall:

Just love 'em. The classic bass sound, great feel, and they last forever.

Pyramid Gold Flatwound strings

Love these strings! Great sound and feel and I haven't had any problems so far (I've had them for a couple of months). One thing I noticed is that the strings are slightly greasy for some reason (it's like some kind of black residue that cover the strings), so I took a cloth and cleaned them before putting them on. Not a big deal, took a few minutes and the sound and feel made it worth the extra effort.
