THE sound for a Hofner bass!

I bought these strings for a Hofner Ignition Club bass guitar and they fit perfectly - not surprising, given the history and association between Pyramid and Hofner (there's an interesting leaflet included with the strings regarding this).

In short, these flatwound strings instantly evoked the sound of the 60s and 70s. Very thumpy on the E and A strings while retaining clarity on the D and G strings, so well balanced across each string.

I've had issues with short scale flatwound strings in the past in which they've sounded 'dead' or the tension in the lower strings mismatched to higher tension in the higher strings. The Pyramid Gold strings feel even across the strings.

Soloing the neck pickup on the club bass, these strings really stood out with a deep rich tone - very vintage sounding and comfortable under the fingers - some flatwounds can feel a little rough, but not the Pyramid Golds. Soloing the bridge pickup, I gained a more cutting tone, especially when played directly over the pickup, sometimes nuances between pickup selection isn't noticeable with some flatwound strings.

In summary, I would recommend these strings without hesitation - although a small detail, the dark green silk wraps around the ends of the strings look classy too! A nice alternative to LaBellas!

Fab four

Instant Macca on a Hofner style fiddle bass. Superb quality strings that thump wonderfully from the start yet improve as they age. Feel is really great and lends itself immediately to those clicky/thuddy McCartneyisms but also sounds perfect for garage punk or 60s psyche. Massive farty burpy growl with the right bass fuzzbox. Love them.

Classic

This is the classic string with the classic sound. Nothing else will get you such an authentic old school sound.

They do feel a bit different though and the E string takes some getting used to. It actually sounds quite different to the other three. If you can get over that though its all part off their charm.

Possibly my favourites

When I bought Pyramid Gold I thought "too much expensive maybe". Nothing could be further from the truth! These strings are worth every single penny. And they would be worth even at twice their price. I use them on my Hofner beatle bass, for recording mostly. Really fantastic sound, perfect for an Hof bass. Nice fundamental, great attack, pretty old school strings. They are one of the most comfortable strings ever played, not loose at all neither too tense. I'm often tempted to put Pyramid Gold on every bass guitar I own, they really can make you smile. Anyway you have to know, before you buy them, if they're the exact type of strings you are looking for. If you want modern sounding flats, you'd better stay away from Golds. If you want that great Macca's sound, you've found the Holy Grail of strings.

Beatles sound!

I have put these strings on my Hofner beatles icon bass, almost right after I got the bass.

I read online that these strings will give my bass the Beatles tone that I am looking for, so i bought these for my beatles bass, in sounds just like Macca's bass lines.

These strings are very easy to play with, smooth and all. Nothing bad at all, a perfect match for the 60s sound.

For Beatlemaniacs looking for beatles sound, this is the right step forward. 5/5

These strings are awesome!

I have never (for some unknown reason) played with flatwounds before, and having purchased a new Hofner Violin Bass, my research told me these were the must-have string for the authentic Beatles sound.

I have found these to be such a joy to play, and they have proven to be very versatile in terms of types of music played. The high notes ring out like they should.

I had the misfortune of the A string breaking across the bridge saddle, and I emailed Pyramid direct. Within 24 hours a replacement was winging its way over from Germany. Top customer service from this brand!

Best price here for UK too, even with the shipping.

Beatles Bass Must Have

Bought these for my HB BeatBass.

They are a must have for this style of guitar and really give you that sound to bring out the best of the bass.

Not only are they tonally good, but they also will last a bit longer that most other bass strings I've had.

Perfect and worth ever penny.

These are the cheapest price I've found them also too!

Great strings for Hofner

I bought these strings to use on my Hofner B-bass. Combined with a quick setup at a local guitar centre these strings feel amazing on my bass and sound incredible. They really create that great thunk that you want to hear from this instrument and even simulate a little bit of that double bass sound. The price is also quite reasonable considering you'll get a long time out of these strings and won't have to change them very often at all. At the moment I'm using these on instruments I use to play jazz, country, rockabilly, etc. I'd highly recommend these strings and will continue using them on my own instruments.

Pyramid Gold Flatwound 040-100

I purchased these strings to replace the supplied strings on a Hofner Ignition violin bass, what a difference! They completely transformed the bass and took me back to the basses I played in the sixties but with even better quality. They are very smooth and give a lovely deep woody tone. You can play for hours and your fingers won't even know it! Simply the best flats I have ever used.

Flatwounds

I bought this for my höfner ct bass for a more vintage tone and this pair of strings does the job perfectly. The strings sound great with that deep round and warm early beatles tone but also feels fantastic. I would recommend this to any bass player looking for an early beatles tone.

These are perfect for the Hofner ignition bass, what a difference these flat wounds make compared to the round wounds, there's more depth of tone & you get that great Hofner thump. these are fabulous strings.

Flat Wound Gold

Superb Sound.

Superb Quality.

Do you need any more information?

OK,

here it is:

I have never used these strings before and have always been a fan of Nylon/Tape wound strings for that smooth feeling and soft sound.

Oh how I wish I had found these before, they are slightly brighter than Nylon/Tape wound and just as smooth to fret.

I have fitted them to my Hofner Beatles Violin Bass.

I highly recommend these strings for that authentic vintage sound.

Super Strings

My main bass is a Fender Hot Rod Precision but I use a Hofner Violin Bass on occasion for a different feel or sound.

I bought these Pyramid Gold Flatwounds to replace the roundwound strings which came as standard on my Hofner in order to get that authentic "deep thump" which was popular when these basses first came out in the 60s.

So do they do the job? You bet they do,and then some!

Many people think only of Mr.McCartney when you mention the Hofner but it does so much more and the flatwounds really are the missing ingredient towards getting that tone which characterizes early blues, jazz, and Tamla.Forget twang and treble,it's all about the bass!

I have fallen in love with my Hofner again and I can see myself using it a lot more in the future.Sorry Mr.Fender!

Excellent

Those are the best strigs I ever had. I'm using the same for almost 3 years and still soun great.

The best for a Hofner violin bass, and similar.

I would buy more but they seem to last forever.

Perfect string

These are the perfect strings for Hofner or any other violin bass guitar.

If you want the classic '60's sound a certain bass player had these are the only string worth getting.

Pyramid flatwound

After a lot of experimenting - and money wasted - I finally found these strings for my left-handed Gibson SG 30.5 inch short scale bass. Build quality is excellent, like all the Pyramid strings I have used over the years, with a smooth feel, no 'stickiness' and balanced, even tension. I particularly like the green silk ends - makes a change from red or blue! Length is perfect with no 'winding' over the bridge (I have a retro-fitted Hipshot bridge) and no silk on the nut. Tone is clear and even and cuts through the natural 'mudiness' of the SG's 'old skool' humbucker neck pickup give the bass a cleaner, stronger sound than the D'Addarios I had fitted before. I would recommend these strings to anyone wanting flatwounds on an SG bass.

Pyramids on Hofner ignition

I put those strings on my brand new Hofner Ignition bass and those strings gave this bass a real life. Stock strings are unusable, roundwounded strings absolutely not suitable for this bass. This is of course just my opinion ;)

Perfect Combination

Playing a 500/1 Hofner Beatles Bass a bass player is seeking the original vintage tone those instruments give: deep low-end with some mids resulting in a tone wich makes its way. The original Hofner strings are Pyramids, too. When someone wants to save some money he or she should buy this set of strings. Compared to - for example - LaBella Flatwounds which are way more middle driven the Pyramids are deep bottom end sounding very dry and woody and give the original feeling of the bass tone you seek for this instrument. No highs that should not be there, this is the only real vintage tone you can get for this instrument. The strings feel very comfortable and they are not too strong to pull with the fingers. Yes, you can even play this bass with fingerpicking and it gives you a very unique and great warm bass tone. To have more click-clack use a pic.

Perfect for Beatle basses

These strings are smooth as butter, and sound excellent. Perfect match for Höfner Beatle basses, or other short scale basses for that matter.

These strings are the business!

I use these on a Hofner McCartney bass. I started with these, switched to the 'Ee Aye Addios' brand but then had to get back to another set of the Pyramid Gold.

They have a great touch, smooth for sliding. I play in a Liverpool Beatles/sixties band so they've got to be up to the mark and these are.

A bit pricey but worth it.
