...also my only resonator :-) If a National is too much or a little excessive for your needs as it would have been for me then this is an excellent cost effective alternative that I found highly playable and with a great sound. Nice action, a little too low maybe but allows combination of slide and fretting. So personally I like it as is and probably won't be changing that. A little wider at the nut than I am used to from a more normal acoustic guitar but I like it in this style of guitar. The sound is personal preference but to me I found this great, especially with a glass slide gives a more relaxed, laid back sound to my ears but also sounded nice, bright, sharp with brass slide. As can probably tell, I would recommend this instrument to anyone considering a resonator guitar. Probably...
Recording King RM-993-VG

To be honest I always wanted a resonator, but I was somewhat unsure about getting into this new world. As my other guitars, dismantled and reassembled close to million times now, kept being "not that", I finally decided to get this parlor in awe of the looks and the sound heard on YouTube videos. A bit risky, but I'm so glad I took it. The neck was instantly super comfortable to play, which is surprising given that I spent last 5 years playing mainly electric guitars. Quality check- great, thank you Jerry. Sound is heavenly (100% they got swampy terrains there, otherwise impossible) and every time I sit with this guitar, I end up composing a new song/rewriting old ones. Astonishingly inspiring. Not sure if Recording King has some ghost-binding ritual included in the production...

I started off a few years ago with a gretsch bobtail and quite liked it esp-ecially with the pickup and aura pedal. Found the bass strings a bit 'flabby.' Found a good deal on a National Scheerhorn Mahogany which of course was a beautifully built 'dobro' and put the bobtail in the shade. Thing is I never quite bonded with it so ended up selling it. So I saw these and thought I'd have a look and quite honestly it is my favourite of the 3 I've played. The action is tight and the instrument has volume and power but also the sweetness you need in the dobro. Really very happy with it and wouldn't be surprised to see the price go up at some point when RK realise how good this is. I will get a nashville pickup added I expect but not sure I'll swap out the parts for Beard ones as I was...
National Reso-Phonic NRP Rubbed Steel 14 Fret

Since a few months I was looking for and comparing resonator guitars. Of course every musician know National guitars from Paul Simon's song and Mark knoppfler. After a while I decided to go for this re-issue of the 1937 model. I had no expérience whatsoever with resonators but I knew that I could order with confidence because National has a certain reputation. I was told that a tricone would have a bit more sustain but I was really surprised by this guitar . It's christal clear, sustain enough and answers to every move you make on the fretboard. I am not a specialist but after three weeks I started to be friends with this instrument. If you have good ears, just listen to,its voice and tey to find your iwn chords on this guitar. I have it always in open D at this moment and...
Beard Guitars Jerry Douglas SN RedBeard

Technically Jerry's is a Blackbeard, but it's still the same guitar with a different finish. SOUND AND PLAYABILITY 1. The first thing that struck me about the guitar is how lively it is. This is not an easy instrument to play. For the first few days I had to adjust my playing technique and style to prevent the guitar sounding too bright and brittle. But don't worry, if you have the chops you'll start to get that under control. This is also giving you detailed information about what you're playing. 2. Once this was under control, I noticed the incredible clarity of the guitar. Each note sounds like a bell. It sounds wonderful played softly or loudly. 3. Dynamics: this dobro works played softly, and loudly. It's possible to get a great tone played at the volume of a whispher, and...

I've had brass bodied tricone, wood bodied spider cone, Fender resocaster, I've built 2 telecaster resonators - but this one takes the biscuit!! (good pun?) - I even prefer it over my mates 3 grand plus National! Its a very pretty guitar with the blend of gold finish & chrome, along with etchings. The neck is as comfy as any acoustic for regular playing, and even with quite low action behaves well for slide. the body is a nice weight, similar to a strat, and not much thicker so it is a very playable guitar with good balance and a loud acoustic reso sound. Tuners are well geared and stable. The electric pick up amplifies and works ok but for amplified reso performance it would benefit from a piezo centre biscuit mounted transducer, but I bought it really for acoustic play so it's...
Recording King RM-997-VG Resonator

Safe to say I was apprenhensive buying it, but I'm so glad I did. The only slight issue I came across was in the cosmetic end with paint at the neck and probably an extra polish on the frets. The truss rod certainly needed to be adjusted and they provide you with the corrrect tool for doing so. When this is properly set up whilst taking measurements the relief and action will likely be like mine and the whole thing plays like butter. The neck is smooth and really allows you to go places. I would recommend that you buy it, get some string changing done and have the fret rubber and truss rod adjustment and this baby will play beautifully. My other half even loves this item. It's gorgeous and so too is the sound. I should say it is also a very comfortable weight and the dimesions also...
Harley Benton Custom Line CLR-Chrome

I've had this for a few years and thought I'd write a review that has a little more history, other than the usual taking the guitar out of the box, giving it a few strums and then commenting on whether it is good or not. Even after two years I still pick up the guitar regularly and use it predominantly for slide. I haven't had to set up a thing on the guitar since the day I received it. The action is reasonable for playing chords and scales and just about high enough to get some great slide guitar tones. The neck is really nice and has an old school quality about it. The tuners are very good and don't cause any noticeable tuning problems. The metal work is bright and well chromed but I like to leave these guitars to tarnish/ become road worn as opposed to cleaning them with polish. I...

This is such an amazing quality guitar for the price, first thing I did when I recieved it was to re-tune to open G, strings are perhaps a little light and action a little low for slide....that said, I have persevered as is but I think if you are new to slide guitar or are a on the heavy handed side, maybe a heavier set of strings are in order. It's nicely balanced, and has a nice neck, acoustic sound is very authentic, obviously can also be plugged in and with the pick-up options, can be more versatile, insofar as being a more general electric guitar (albeit a very bright sounding one). If you are looking for a dobro sound on a budget , you could do a lot worse, this has one advantage by the way that should be mentioned, it's slimness, much more comfortable than many acoustic guitars...
Gretsch G9201 Honey Dipper

This is the first resonator guitar which I've owned which I bought after wanting something a little different to my other guitars and I have certainly not been disappointed. The guitar arrived in good time and was well packed. It's quite a heavy guitar, as you would expect, and is sturdy and well made. The neck has a nice feel to it and is easy to play. There is a really nice tone to the guitar, which is quite loud and it's interesting to hear how different pieces can sound when you've been used to playing them on a 'regular' acoustic. The tuning pegs seem good quality and so far it has held its tuning well over the week or so that I've had it. The guitar definitely suits certain music styles better than others and is most at home with blues and country style music. Slide guitar...
