Evans 10" G2 Coated Tom

Evans 10

Based on 8 reviews

Love the Evans G2 range. There's loads of tuning width from super dead wrinkly tension to cranked right the way up. Was using Remo Ambsadors for my 10, but switched to this and prefer it! (Although that's a matter of taste). It sounds great on my 10"x8" Mapex Tom. A guy in a local music shop (in the uk) once told me Remo heads are much better made than Evans. I disagree, I think they're well matched, however, I don't know why, I perfer Evans heads. The two ply film heads should give you plenty of life even for heavy hitters. Overall, this skin gives great tone and great consistency to my 10" Tom.

Evans 10" Hydraulic Red Tom

Evans 10

Based on 3 reviews

Dry, soft, distinctive, vintage, experimental...I could go on and on about how I experienced this hydraulic skin, but you can find it all out on YT. It's a looker no doubt. It's very forgiving, very easy to tune, and will give a decent sound in the worst of conditions (or on the worst of drums). The sound is not open. It's tight, short. Of course there is sustain, but that's from the kettle. The skin itself dampens more than any other skin. The plus side is that this skin will never need any tape, gel or any other form of damping material on it. Also not as voluminous as a regular skin due to the oil, so you have to hit harder for the same volume. Attack is good, it also gives a good tone when hit soft. I noticed it sounds more pure in the middle, but hit on the edges it will let you...

Evans 10" EC2S/SST Frosted Control

Evans 10

Based on 3 reviews

Bought these for my entire kit which is 8" 10" 14" 16" Looks amazing sounds incredible i love the frosted feel and look These products met every expectation I had for them. As drummers we all search for heads that gives us the tone we want, look cool!! and tunes easily, these are my fave heads for toms for sure!!. They sound great on stage and on recordings The tone is amazing right from the lowest tuning the the highest so they are very versatile. I use really low tuning on floor toms and quite high on rack toms, and for both they work amazing. I don't use moon gel or a dampener as the heads them self's just tune up perfectly for me and iv used them for many years now the tone is very pleasing to me and my fellow drummer friends and others when they use my kit would...

Aquarian 10" Super 2 Coated

Aquarian 10

Based on 2 reviews

I have been playing Aquarian heads for more than 7 years. Most of the time I used clear double ply heads. Since about a year ago I switched to the super 2 coated heads on my toms. I love the sound, the attack and sustain of these heads. Tuning is super easy. For playing in a soul&funk band and in a country band I’ll turn the toms down to a low tuning. When I am playing with my jazz sextet I just have to cranck up some lugs for a higher bob tuning and I’m done. The toms are in tune very quickly and they really sing !! All members of every band I’m playing in, love the sound of my drums. Sound engineers adore them. With a kick, snare and overhead mike and occasionally just one or two overheads the drums sound great. In louder surroundings with close miking, there is...

Evans 10" G12 White Coated

Evans 10

Based on 2 reviews

Rave reviews of these drum heads convinced me to try them out and i'm happy that i did. They are really easy to stick on you drums with minimal tuning and produce a warm, focused sound with a lot of projection. Being only single ply, but with the strength of a twin ply, these really bring out the tone and character of your drums and can be used for a number of styles of music. However, i thought they were going to have a white coating as in the listing but when they turned up they had a glassy, frosted appearance but still delivered the goods in playability and sound.

Evans 10" Calftone Tom

Evans 10

Based on 1 reviews

I have a set of the Evans Calftone drumheads, and I can honestly say these are among the best heads I have ever played! They definitely don't feel hugely durable, like the Hydraulic range, but they are by no means "weaker" than the G1 heads. They offer a delightfully warm tone that sounds great with or without dampening. I used the Evans e-rings to test that (I don't own any moongel or anything of the sort). If you aren't too much of a heavy hitter and are looking for a classic sound then these are for you!

Aquarian 10" Reflector

Aquarian 10

Based on 1 reviews

This was purchased to replace the standard heads on our drummers relatively modest Yamaha (great value for what you pay) kit. To be fair to those original heads, they weren't at all bad... just old and well used. The drummer was after black drum heads and after a lot of reading, these were chosen. So, the top film is clear over black, no transfer of colour off of these, so a plus point there. What the film does however, is give the head a slightly off-black (deep, dark grey/anthracite) hue with a bit of oily rainbow effect, depending upon the lighting and angle. Don't worry about this though, it is not something that is particularly noticeable or distracting when playing... The look is still essentially as near as to negate any doubt. What about when played, you may ask? Well, simply...

Remo 10" Emperor Clear

Remo 10

Based on 10 reviews

This is an excellent head for a clear, modern sound on the toms. It works well with various kinds of tunings, has a fairly controlled sound but with good sustain, and is very durable. I don't think I've ever been able to dent one. They're great for rock and metal, especially if you're on a budget - I played an Emperor tom head literally for years and it still sounded good! However, if you're looking for a warmer, more "classic" sound for rock purposes (e.g. Ian Paice in the early 1970's), go for the Coated version.

Evans 10" EC2S/SST Clear

Evans 10

Based on 7 reviews

Evans drum skins are top quality. The sound is perfect, they are durable and last long. I would highly recommend Evans over and above any other skin brand. I recently switched to Hydraulic batters for all my toms; the EC2s are a classic looking and sounding clear tom batter, but the hydraulics for me are a lot rounder and fuller sounding. They decay quicker than the EC2s clears, so for my taste hydraulics are perfect. But, if you prefer longer decay and a slightly more complex set of fine overtone options in tuning, then I couldn't recommend the EC2s skins more. Proper good old Evans. My favourites by far :-)

Remo 10" Pinstripe Clear

Remo 10

Based on 16 reviews

The remo pinstripe has been in my life for as long as I can remember. It gets a decent sound out of entry level beginner drums, and a good sound out of good drums. But something that not everyone will know is that it gets an unbelievably good sound out of quads or multi-tenors (for marching bands / drum corps). The tonal clarity and projection you get is second to none. Obviously it's better to use the dedicated marching version with the crimplock hoop, but it's essentially the same head, just a little stronger at the point of attachment. If you haven't heard pinstripes crannked up to high tension, then you haven't heard them at their very best. But even at normal tensions they are a solid, reliable drumhead.
