Why I changed to an Emperor Suede

Since I bought my Pearl 14 x 5” Brass Free Floater snare in 2019 I’ve been struggling to find the right batter head. I hated the single ply Ambassador Coated that it shipped with as it was knackered after 1 gig, so I changed to an Emperor Coated. This was better, but still sounded too ‘ordinary’. I then tried a Powerstroke P4 which a great feel, but was just too warm and controlled for this snare. Finally I fitted an Emperor Suede and have found that bright sound that perfectly compliments the brass shell while the two 7.5 mil plies provide just the right amount of control (with careful tuning) that the drum needs to sing.
