Rode NT5 S

I bought this after reading all the reviews that this is a good mic for recording classic violin. Well, maybe for other people yes, unfortunately for me no. The sound is harsh. For the money let's say could do the job, maybe the stereo setup will be better, but I don't use it anymore, I bought it, especially for recording violin, and ended up buying a Neuman. But that is just me, it may work for other people.

Great Product For Price

I got some great results from this product for recording acoustic guitar. The sound was very crisp and their wasnt much noise in the recording.

Great clean, transparent microphones

I have used these mics many times for recording and live work. The are very clean and transparent with low noise.

The top part of the capsule may be exchanged for another pattern (I actually use cardoid and omni heads). This ensures the mic has the best sound and is preferable to switchable patterns.

I have used these live on many acoustic instruments, they work particularly well on woodwinds. For recording I have used them for stereo recordings of orchestras.

All round - very good mics.

Great on many instruments

I absolutely love this mic, I will most likely sell this individual one and buy a matched pair as soon as I can afford it. I use it mostly on acoustic guitar, and especially my Martin sounds absolutely amazing through one of these. I use it on several types of whistles and other wind instruments as well, the included pop cap comes in handy in those situations to prevent wind noise, and the sound is very detailed. Shaker sounds good, haven't tried other percussion though. I've used it to record a guitar amp as well which was okay, but nothing special. A combination of SM57 and a decent LDC still works a lot better.

I even recorded my own vocal through this just to see what would happen, but that didn't work out too well: the s sounds were incredibly sibilant, which is to be expected for this kind of mic.

Good value

ecxellent value for this package. My first condenser mic and I'm very happy with it. Using as an acoustic aid for my guitars. Clear sound. Not getting much feedback. Top quality for the price I paid.

Quality sound at a quality price

When reviewing the Rode Nt5's the focus should be how great they sound for the money. It wouldn't be fair to compare these to other high end mics. But I will tell you that if you are considering other budget small diaphragm condensers, don't! These are great mics. Even before you try them, the build quality is on par with mics costing 4 times as much. Built like tanks, clips are very tight and sturdy, and the case is great.

On to the sound, very well balanced, What is very important is to pair these with a good preamp. A high quality preamp will make them shine. They really excel on acoustic guitar, hi hat, and do as overheads. If these are what your budget allows then you will be extremely happy. These mics are usable no matter what other high end mics you may have. You can always find a place for these.

Excellent Mic for Acoustic Recordings

The Rode NT5 S has worked really well recording both acoustic guitar and acoustic piano. Great clarity. Very pleased with this small diaphragm mic. An extra windshield would be good.

Good instrument mic

I love the NT5, I use it on my cello and flute and it is brilliant. The sound is quite warm and full bodied. Great all-purpose mic, would highly recommend!
