The sound is massive! great grooves!

Excited to get going

Having bought my TR-8S last year, I signed up for an online course offered free by Roland via their website and in the first session already learned loads of things that I can’t wait to try out. So many cool presets that will result in hours of entertainment. Very happy with my purchase now.

No matter what is your setup you need to have this

I have a home studio, with good amount of gear, I like to noodle on my synthesizers but I need quick access to a good beat. I found the TR-8s a great solution for that. Easy to work and great output. It has a good library and unique templates

I'm loving it

Endless features, this is not just a drum machine. Casual use needs very little menu diving, if you want to play with the synth engine it takes a while to program it.

nice unit, solid, great sound.

I did have issues with the midi out port, but this is more of a thru, rather than out. Which means I cannot dump midi score unless I use USB. Otherwise, great kit and I love it.

Top sounds

Very nice drum machine with lots of features. I use it in my home studio, sometimes to record performances or just to make beats in Cubase, through usb-midi or directly to audio interface stereo inputs 3/4. I also use it live without computer and i am satisfied with results. Sound quality is very good, there are plenty of presets already installed and you can make your own preaty easily. Handling is little hard at first, you will need some time to learn all key commands and menu diving. Build quality is good and knobs are well made too, no wobling and moving, sliders are good too. Instrument pad could be a little more sensitive, so i dont need to press it so hard and more responsive. I am satisfied with purchase, its my first drum machine so i dont have much reference to compare, but like most Roland products it is very good product. Price is maybe a little to high, but it is worth it.

Everything I wanted

It's like Roland listened to our critics about the original TR8 and finally added them in!

Here is what I like:

1. 8 separate outputs. Awesome, exactly what I was waiting for. I can finally separate my kicks, snares and cymbals and process them further in my mixer.

2. Variations, adds more flexibility.

3. Inclusion of all of the classic machines, as well as some of the less appreciated (like the 626).

4. Ability to import our own sounds! This is HUGE! And it works perfectly.

The sounds: Perfect. Yes they are ACB, this is not analogue Bassdrum (looking forward to Behringer RD-9 and RD-8) - but sounds are VERY convincing.

The FX: Perfect.

The sample playback: Perfect.

Now you just need to buy the machine! I suggest you visit official website and educate yourself. This drum machine is truly amazing and creativity booster.

I don't like:

1. well it's plastic case. Good one, but still plastic case. When you add wooden sides this is even better.

2. Tap tempo led blinking. I can't find a way to turn it off. Not showstopper.

Roland has an excellent workflow in their sequencers , the newest update is excellent and really adds a lot of sound diversity to the machine. Quality is 100% . Excellent

Best drum machine

All the benefit of classic sound-sets, alongside samples and option to import. Fairly intuitive architecture and progammability - I had it up and running within 30 minutes coming up with some nice beats. Particularly good for interactive live use, but will use it mostly in my home studio.

I feel like I can produce any beat with this machine.

Tr8s is nice

Good drum machine.Excelent sounds on it. took about 4 days and some tutorials to wrap my head around it so i would say easy to use.

I do recomend it. There is menu diving but not infernal, it's ok, take afew days to get used to, after that it becomes instictual.

Don't know how I lived without it

I didn't think I needed a dedicated drum machine, but my friends loved their TRs so I buckled. I am so happy I did, creating rhythms and performing on this thing brings me so much happiness. There is a lot more depth to the features than I was expecting, it is almost a groove box.

Its my first piece of Roland kit, I am a big fan of Korg and usually skip over considering Roland, but I am so very happy with my choice.

Classic rhythm preformer good for all beginners! Good for all kinds of music. I really enjoy this item a lot!

awesome drum machine

super drum machine versatile and the name speak for itself

Waited a year before writing this

and the verdict is: it's an extremely capable drum machine that can find a home in any electronic setup *(what I use it for). It's clearly designed for both studio use and performance.

Configurability is definitely it's biggest strength.

-It plays well with other hardware, the assignable outs and external inputs are great to have.

-Being able to bring audio/MIDI into a DAW is good. For example, I can split the audio into Kick, Snare, and a mix of everything else on another channel. Makes side-chaining in the DAW much easier.

OK, so lets talk about the sound.

-The ACB instruments are pretty great, watch some videos and decide with your own ears. I reach for them by default.

-It's nice to have sample import but it requires a bit of preparation. I don't use them often.

-The FX are good for the most part. Delay and reverb are much improved from the TR-8. Sometimes I find the distortion just too digital for a kick, and the bitcrush also (the reverb one on the TR-8 rocked); they're both good on Snares tho.

Overall the sound is great

The quality is grand. Hard plastic but feels nice. Much improved aesthetic.

Great drum machine, useful for a multitude of drum parts

It is quite light which is a real plus when it comes to transporting it around from gig to gig. It is a useful, great sounding drum machine including a lot of classic drum sounds.

Stellar!

Truly inspiring and great sounding machine. Very easy to operate out of the box but also allows for quite deep sound design. The ACB sounds are clean and phatt and the included samples are great too. Really easy to tune each sound the way you want it.

Only thing I wish it had sample time stretch so you can easily match sounds and loops to the pattern BPM.
