Paiste 2002 Classic 15" Sound Edge HH
Based on 3 reviews
Beautiful cymbals, Nice chick when tight, medium or loose. Lovely splash when clipped. Lively, bright and full musical sounds when played open. Lower tones than 14"s. The best hat's Iv'e ever owned. I love the 2002 series. Projects well in the mix. They don't get in the way of singers because of their size 15" and deeper sounds. They produce all the power I need for stronger playing. Sound Edge wavy bottom. Brilliant hat's for the studio too and record very well. Paiste Pick Them For They Will Pick You Peace Declan Campion Drums
Zildjian 15" A-Series New Beat Hi-Hat
Based on 3 reviews
I've tried a bunch of Zildjian hi-hats: K-light, K sweet, K Custom Hybrid, a Paiste 2002 Heavy hi-hat also, which are all great hats with their own specialities. But now I ended up at the A New Beats. These are the ones for me. First had a 14" which sounds great in the flesh and even better through microphones. I was curious what the 15" would do, and this one's an upgrade to a hat that I already thought was perfect. Just a great fresh sound, nice range between closed and opened without any funky ring, the wash is just smooth and fresh ... the hat sounds great quiet and loud ... pure playing pleasure!
Zultan 15" Heritage Hi-Hat
Based on 2 reviews
I've had these for 1 day and I'm really impressed. The cymbals are heavily hand hammered and lathed, giving a lovely mellow, old-school sound with warmth and some complexity, but they still cut. I've listened to a LOT of cymbal sound samples over the years (I'm a drum nerd!) and the Heritage hats sound to me like a mix of Agop 30th Anniversary and Zildjian Keropes. Both those cymbals are double the price of these hats which makes these a bargain! My only slight issue is that the centre hole for the bottom hat is a tiny bit off centre, but it doesn't effect the sound or playability. For anyone interested, the weight of my pair was top - 1040g, bottom - 1200g.
Meinl 15" Byzance Jazz Hi-Hat Thin
Based on 2 reviews
I will describe my opinion on the Meinl Byzance 20â Vintage crash 1621 gr, 15â Jazz Thin Hi Hat 881/1098 gr, and the 22â Foundry Reserve Light Ride 2345 gr. as a set, rather than each by itself so that everyone can judge how they fit together. All together as a set those three models can be seen in a video by Adam Tuminaro that anyone can find. In recent years I've been moving towards a darker, drier and softer vintage drum sounds, so I had to find the right cymbals as well. I owned Zildjian Kerope and Constantinople cymbals - 19" Kerope 1636 gr, 22â Medium Thin High 2525 gr. and 15â Kerope hi hats 923/1178 gr. What I was not happy about was the 19â Kerope, which was not that easy to open in a light playing situation with the thinner 8A Wincent sticks and the...
Meinl 15" Byzance Hi-Hat Extra Dry
Based on 2 reviews
My choices of hi-hats are a journey from light to darkness: I started with the 14-inch Zildjian A New Beat, switched a year later to the 14-inch Paiste Signature Dark Energy Mk I and, two years later, to 14-inch Zultan Dune. All these cymbals are great, but I slowly realized I wanted something darker, drier and thrashier and the with the 15-inch Meinl Byzance Extra Dry I reached the darkest, driest and trashiest sound one can have – and an excellent stick definition too (there’s a 16-inch version but I thought that such a large hi-hat would not suit my playing style). Probably these hi-hats will be seen as appropriate only for jazz but I think they are very versatile. One of the reasons for this is the fact that, although being dark and dry, they are not dull at all and have a...
Paiste 15" 602 Mod. Essentials Hi-Hat
Based on 1 reviews
Bought these Hats as an alternative sound to my amazing Paiste 14" Dark Energy Hi-Hats, was not disappointed, I have only ever played paiste since I began drumming 10 years ago, nothing else compares in my opinion. These hats first off, are beautiful in appearance ( I especially like the raw underside of the bell on both cymbals). Being 15" these are naturally lower in pitch than 14s. They have a rich, glassy tone with a great chunky sound when played on the edge, they also have a beautiful, deep chick sound. Perfect hats for a bigger sound that is not too overpowering.
Meinl 15" Byzance Foundry Reserve HH
Based on 1 reviews
I wanted a hihat that would work in all situations, and the 15" Foundry Reserve really does that trick. Soft feel, very controlable. Very good balance between a beefy and also very delicate and crispy sound. It sounds full. If you want a hihat that cuts trough on stage in heavy metal, with lots of volume, then this is perhaps not the ideal hi-hat. In all other settings and genres from rock/pop to jazz it's like a dream that always sits beautiful in the mix. I have received lots of remarks from other musicians regarding how beautiful the sound of this hihat really is. Highly recommended! It is the best hi-hat I have ever owned, and when ever I try something else, I always fall back to this hi-hat.
Meinl 15" Classics Cust. Dual Hi-Hat
Based on 1 reviews
I play mostly slow, sludgy drum parts in my band and had been using the Classics Custom Dark 14'' Heavy Hi-Hats for a while. I am a heavy hitter and I was playing them upside down, with the designated "bottom" cymbal on top, but the hats were still feeling a bit too light and small for me. These are my first 15" hats, and I am very happy with the heavier feel and the bigger size. The added bit of brightness, over the regular Dark hats, is a welcome touch as well. Also, as my drumset is all in the black-and-gold aesthetic, these Classics Custom Dual cymbals fit right in with their awesome design. I enjoy both playing and looking at them, very happy with my purchase!
Zultan 15" Caz Hi-Hat
Based on 5 reviews
I love the feel of these hi hats. Buttery under the sticks, dark, clean sound. Nice wash when played loose or half open. Decent but not great chick (as you would expect from lighter hats). Record beautifully. I have no problem recommending these far anyone looking for something similar to a Zildjian K light hi hat but on a budget. Don't spend the extra money on fancy names if you're after great sound. No need to look further, especially for lighter music. Also play some funk/fusion and these fit in well.
Zultan 15" Raw Jazz Hi-Hat
Based on 3 reviews
After a search for some dark, warm 15" hihats that didn't break the bank I took a gamble on these based on the reviews. They are amazing cymbals for 180 Euro (£160)! Lots of character, dark, woody stick definition and a good foot chick. I agree with other reviews that these are not really 'jazz' hats, they are pretty chunky when played open and can be used for louder gigs/playing. They are not much lighter than the regular Raw hats either as far as I can tell...my jazz hats were 1100g / 1285g and I've seen the regular Raw hats listed as 1150g / 1360g. But if you are in the market for a quality pair of dark, warm, different hihats that are kind to your wallet I'd definately recommend trying these out.
