Easy upgrade for Shadow Preamp and Pickup

Like many quality electro acoustic guitars built around 10-15 years ago my customer had a really high spec'd guitar (all solid woods) but the preamp and pickup fitted didn't have a built in tuner and the preamp had suffered from lots of 'good' use. It was a Shadow SH 863, with the big chunky metal strip under saddle piezo pickup.

The challenge was to upgrade without having to re-cut any holes for the preamp or battery box.

After research I found the Shadow SH-Performer-T(uner) was a straight swap. The new preamp covered the 4 holes from the SH863 (just) and I had to drill 4 new holes for the fixing screws. The Nanoflex piezo pickup that comes with the SH Performer as standard is much thinner and has better sensitivity. I had to make some shims to put under the saddle to make the saddle height correct to counter the thinner pickup. The upgrade was achieved in minutes. Conclusion is that the SH Performer-T is a great upgrade for the SH 863 with minimum fuss. No more clip on tuners and a very happy customer.
